This rifle appears to be correct for an original M40. Someone hit the opening of $1300 which is cheap as hell for that. It’s one of the Remington archive rifles so very likely their internal or museum sample.

I have a consecutive serial number, CMP release rebuild to 6BR….went above what I thought it was worth.
I highly doubt that... those of us that are interested in these types of rifles are always looking for them and watching these auctions long before they are posted on any forums.

I think the buyer got a pretty good deal, he won't loose money on that rifle if he ever decides to sell it.

It keeps the bidding fair and also gives others opportunities at it that don’t have time to scout gunbroker all the time. I would have loved to snag it for the opening bid of $1300 just like anyone else.
It sold for less than the last one at CMP and most likely being Remingtons museum sample makes it way cooler and more collectible. At $8500 someone still got a great deal on it.
