This license plate has been on the front of one of my vehicles ever since I bought it in Fort Benning (no, I'm never going to call it anything BUT Fort Benning) in 1991 while in Basic Training.

It's beat to shit just like me, and is getting ready to go onto yet another truck. I've thought about retiring it to my reloading room wall, and trying to find a new one, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

It's the only thing I've put on a vehicle that signifies I'm a veteran.

Who else has a treasured piece from the past that they hold on to?

Let's see some cool stuff.

Edit: I don't mean strictly military stuff, but anything you have that brings back memories of a significant time or event, or a person that you knew. Just some cool things.

I am not a vet but I have a license plate holder from my FIL. 9th USAAF 410 Lt Bomber Group. And a medallion he got from the reunion of the 410th some 30 years ago in Scotsdale, Arizona. I should upload pics of those items. Somewhere, I have a pic of his brick in the VFW memorial at Fireman's Park in Brenham, Texas.

That is the location where I could with him during Memorial Day and have some "shit on a shingle." He was in the mess hall of the 646th Squadron in Europe during WWII.

I have that and a Ranger Tab one somewhere. That is cool that you still have that (it is older than mine, 1998).

A Democratic Congress passed a law that no military bases could ever be named after Confederate Army officers, so the Trump administration simply found appropriate American heroes with similar names and renamed the bases. An absolutely ingenious idea and the perfect troll.

It's beat and worn because my FIL actually used this plate holder on his vehicle.

He was a PFC in the 9th USAAF 410 Light Bomber Group 646th Squadron in Europe. He worked in the mess hall. Because he understood and spoke some German (from family knowledge,) he helped as caretaker of the German POWs. Most of those guys were young, not even into their 20s. He would give them chores around camp.
