I am looking to upgrade my current ares 4.5-30 to either the mk5 5-25 or the 7-35 or anything in that same price range. I am curious if anyone has made a similar switch and experienced a noticeable improvement.

Give me a call at 916-628-3490 and I'll see what I can for you on a Leupold MK5 and answer any questions you have :)

What are you looking to improve?
What are you missing from your current rifle scope?

Ive gone from an old Nightforce NXS to a Delta Stryker since the old 5 MIL per rev turrets with no zero stop would be terrible at a competition, otherwise I had no issues with the Nightforce on that rifle.
Ive gone from a Vortex Razor G2 to a Schmidt PM2 which was a very noticeable optical upgrade, but the turrets were just fine on either of them. I could go on, but you get the point.

The Athlon has a really tight eye box and a very small fov. I meant to put this in the original post but I use this rifle for prs style of shooting.

I dont know about the eye box on that scope, but the FOV seems to be on par with most similar scopes.
If it is within your budget maybe a Kahles 328 should be something to have a look at?
I had a look through a Zeiss LRP S3 4-25x this past weekend, it was nice as well, and the eyebox felt roomy enough.

I think you'll be happy with the MK5 as an upgrade in the eye box IMHO.

Another one to consider if FOV is important is the Burris XTR3 or XTR Pro. Both have a great viewing experience through the scope.

I don't have Leupold specs imprinted in my head, but when comparing two models, dont just assume that they are the same aside from magnification range. Make sure that each has the elevation adjustment range that you need.

I'm no leupold fan boy, but the Mk4 and Mk5 lines are pretty impressive. It's often difficult to contrast two scopes in ideal conditions or inside the confines of a well lit store. The differences are more apparent in less than ideal conditions. Leupold has some kind of magic going on with their coatings.
