Looking for load data on what worked and velocity you’re seeing

    I plan to run

    Bullet: 178 ELDX
    Powder: H4350
    Primer: CCI 250
    Brass: Lapua

AIAT Rifle with 24” Bartlein- Long range deer killer

These are dummy rounds loaded .020” off the lands. See any issue with the amount the bullet seats into the case?

I have had VERY bad pressure issues with hornady bullets in my AIs but both had factory barrels. Work up carefully.
I run these 178’s in my AT in 308 and have for years. So was hoping to try them

But I’m open to suggestions on what to use. I went Saami spec because I was worried about mag length issues. Wonder how a Berger would measure up?

If you ever want to buy a couple flats of the 178 BTHP let me know. I have about 6000 bullets I can't use, lol. They shoot fine in everything else but my old LW barrel HATES them.
Turns out my 308 and 30 wsm really like the 178 bthp hornady. Had really good performance on deer. In process of reworking load for the wsm due to imr 4451 discontinued. See how 4350 works if I can ever get to the range.

How does a particular brand of bullet cause pressure issues when another doesn't?
More bearing surface would be one potential factor. That means more bullet that must be deformed by the lands to be pushed down the barrel and can lead to more pressure. I'm sure there are other factors as well but that's one potential.

I am aware of that. But thats not a bullet problem....

That is a reloaders problem, getting pressure trying to skip steps and extrapolating load data for the wrong bullet and/or case.

Did some measuring today. I can definitely see why the hornady would experience pressure issues sooner. Not only can you see a difference in bearing surface between the bullets below. But the Berger’s slide smooth and freely in my OAL case neck. I thought I was sent a case with a tighter neck originally as the hornady have definite friction in the OAL case neck. The diameter of the hornady bullets is definitely a touch bigger than both Bergers I tested

I think it’s worth giving the Bergers a shot. The juggernaut will fit in the mag in Saami spec chamber touching the lands. The bearing surface is also closer to the neck which should give more room to achieve better velocity without early pressure signs. Theoretically
