Anyone have eyes on Athlon Midas TAC Gen2 UHD 5-30×56 Yet?

Curious how this scope compares to something like a viper hd 5-25x50 (i know the tac is 34mm and viper is 30mm, im more curious about the glass). Im also very keen to check out DNT’s 30mm tubes once they come out.

Just got the newly released Athlon Midas TAC gen2 5-30x56 FFP scope. Everything the gen 1 is known for plus better glass and higher mag. Only focus down to 20 yards at full mag, but that wasn’t a concern for me. I think this scope is every bit as good as the Ares ETR 4.5-30x or Cronus 4.5-29x...

Wondering similar things as I am looking at the Ares ETR 5-30x56 APRS6 Mil and the Midas Tac 5-30x56 APRS16 (UHD) Mil...

As the MT comes with the sunshade, throw lever, and cap(s) you are looking at $300 difference (depending on where and what you add to the ETR) - anyone know if the glass IQ is there for that $300 (+/-)?

There are so many good options out there these days. Tiring of the back and forth I pulled the trigger. I like my Midas HMR on my 22, so I went with the +$300 savings and bought the Midas Tac UHD APRS16.

Hmm yeah they do seem hard to find with APRS16.

@gr8fuldoug at CameraLand has them listed with the APRS16 reticle but the name says HD not UHD (perhaps it's a typo and should say UHD instead of HD). I'm really confused about this. There seems to be some 5-30 Gen2's that have HD glass (APRS15?) and others that have UHD (APRS16?)

I looked there and missed the APRS16 I guess. Figures, they are $100 off for Labor Day....

If they have that scope then yes, revise the text. And they need to include the mention/photos of the sun shade and the machined lens cap that are included.

Had a guy say it wasn't really UHD but he doesn't know anymore than me so????

From what I can gather, the HD version doesn’t come with the nice lens caps and other accessories, but the UHD version does so I’m curious which version they have at cameraland.

Well, I sure would like to know if it is indeed the APRS16 and comes with the stuff listed at Athlon.

The model # is correct and the photo has the lever post for mag change.... I dunno

Maybe the cameralandny typo is that it should be the APRS15?

I would cancel the amazon order and go with Doug!

I ordered mine from Expert Voice and it says the 15 reticle as well, Athlon list the 16 as the only reticle option. Probably a copy paste typo

I think Athlon released two versions of this scope: the HD version (APRS15, comes with sunshade only) and the UHD version (APRS16, comes with sunshade, screw on lens caps, and mag lever)?

The question I have is if both versions were listed under the same model number of # 213088 bc if so that would be confusing as fuck

So the spec sheet on the Camerlandny link pulls up an Athlon pdf file. It lists the reticle/model as APRS16 but in the description states HD glass. I have a similar Athlon pdf that clearly stated UHD.

I know I am overthinking all this but my early model Gen X brain wants to solve the problem and saving $100 would be gnarly!

Haha if it makes you feel any better I’m equally confused. All of the ones that seem to be in the 500’s price wise I think are the HD versions (without screw on lens caps)

Well here’s a picture of what I got off the prize table as I mentioned earlier. Clearly marked hd but the sku code is the uhd model….I think it’s a misprint on the box🤷🏽

ETA: Mine came in, same box. MPN/SKU same - 213088

Euro Optic receipt/ship sheet states 213088 Midas TAC HD, APRS15 reticle. Not the APRS16 UHD I ordered.

I should have just bought the AersETR... But this is a freaking tank of a scope, build seems great.

The mode3l #'s are 213087 and 213088 the box says APRS16 and my dealer book says APRS15

Thanks Doug. Do you happen to know if there are lens caps in the box? The way Athlon rolled these scopes out and apparently misprinted HD instead of UHD on the boxes is super confusing same thing with the reticles (APRS15 vs APRS16). There’s even an inconsistency with whats on the box vs whats in the dealer book from what you posted.

Spoke with a guy at Euro Optic, where it came from via their Amazon shop. Ultimately, he said to just return it.... Could not clarify anything. Had my order but no clue.

Talk about losing faith in multiple businesses (EuroOptic, CameraLandNY, Athlon) here...

Athlon didn't really do their vendors any favors with how they marketed the 5-30X56 G2 TAC or misprinted some stuff on boxes (HD vs UHD) or whatever the explanation is for the confusion. Some boxes have screw on lens covers while others don't no clear way to tell which is which. What a Clusterfuck...smh.

I agree but the Athlon website is spot on, box and manual list HD glass. EuroOptic doesn't have this one listed anymore. Cameraland is like DEI interns were too busy on the TikTok's to get the ad close to right.

I know Doug dedicated to shooters here, LRH, other forums. Has been. But ClusterFuck is right.

Ok thanks for the update, so the HD was a mistake/mislabel.....did they say the same re: APRS15 reticle? Most of the places selling these list them with that reticle not the APRS16.

Here's a perfect example (marked UHD but lists APRS15 as the reticle, has 213088 as the model #):
