Powder IN-STOCK thread

Is there a place on AR that describes the other characteristics of the powder? I feel like something akin to Varget or h4895 or h4350 etc should be in a similar class of "temp stable stick powders". Or am I over-thinking this? :ROFLMAO:

I've got 3 of the AR powders and none of them are on that new chart, by the number you can tell were they fit though.

The new chart is so fucking stupid. If I get an email and have to download and cross reference numbers to determine what it is and then its no longer a crazy good deal when I can just buy Varget or similar.. Too much work for me now. The days of American Reloading 16lb for $159.99 are long gone.

Ive been buying from them for a LONG time. They were great for surplus powder to throw in my automated dillon to run off plinking ammo.. But they got me hooked like a crackhead and I was buying everything until they pissed me off with their "ball and stick" blends. No thanks.

Seriously they blended ball/stick. Duplex loads??

I was thinking we should have a dedicated reloading thread for AR powder to show real world how well they actually compare. Since they pissed you off that’s prolly a no bueno LOL.

I’m going to have to open the 2 unused jugs.
I’ve only tried their sim to RL16 and it looks similar, but acts like single base. Much slower fps.
I have the sim to RL26 & AA2520 unopened.
Kind of just bought them as reserves.

Ive had excellent results up until that one. It was there similar to IMR4451... before I realize that I worked up a load and it was 85° outside all was well...

Then I loaded up my final charge weight to do some long distance load confirmation and was blowing primers and getting big smear marks on the cases. Couldn't figure out what was going on until I looked at the powder and saw that it's ball and stick mixed no way in hell you're getting an equally mixed ratio on every charge of both ball and stick

It surprises me that people use that AR stuff given how punctilious we reloaders are about same lot, humidity, book max, 0.02 grains resolution, "to the kernel", runout, primer depth etc

Then shoot a completely unknown and unlabeled powder? Weird.

I was buying it 16lb at a shot for $150-$$160 military WC846 and WC844 for my automated Dillon 5.56 for AR practice ammo. It was great stuff for cheap.

Admittedly, I got jaded in what I was buying from them and why.. they got expensive and the mixing of powders/blends pissed me off. Im done with them..

Local guy: "But these five 1# containers of H1000 you're selling for $50/# - is it the same lot? What was the manufacture date? Have you opened the bottles?"

Same guy: "AR has a powder pulled from somewhere and mixed with something else that burns between Varget and Retumbo for $30/#! What's the daily limit?!?!"

Other than putting up with 1 lb containers, this per pound price isn't as bad.
The 8 lbs is 54.94 per pound, and the below is 49.00 per pound.

Midwayusa has primers on sale with free shipping over $99 and $19 hazmat. But you can take another 20% off with 20MUSA. It netted me winchester primers for under $50 per thousand.

Man if only that were true.. 20MUSA does not work unless you got the code in an email and your specific acct has been hard coded on their backend to use it

I tried buying multiple things the past week with items that say "20MUSA eligible" and each time I used the code it said "your account is not eligible" when checking out. Super frustrating

Called Midway and they said thst code only works if you got the email and your account was coded to use it.

I found this out the hard way. So annoying

I honestly couldn't tell you where I got the code but it wasn't out of my email because I turned those promo emails off 2yrs ago. I did have to clear everything out of my cart then applied the code and it started working so I loaded up on stuff.

No dice for me, either, but worth a try.

I hate Larry's prices over the last 5 years (went to hell when he retired + COVID nonsense), but 20% off Varget would put it right about where I think it should be priced and would have sealed the deal for me. Thanks for the lead nonetheless! 🙏

A ball and stick blend? is that a factory product or a garage alchemist?

You guys got me a moment there….. I opened a recent order of 637 to check and it’s definitely stick, just very short cut.

If they really mix I give them a call. Maybe someone screwed up?

Nope. Someone posted on here in the past 2-3 months they know the owners of American and confirmed they were mixing ball and stick..... that and me getting a jug and the prices going up and up make them a non-starter for me when it comes to buying powder.

Thanks for that info on them mixing the powders! So thankful I haven't bought any of their powder just projectiles and primers.

Here another one that was obviously mixed. Their "Similar to H4350".. obviously 2 different stick powders, maybe even 3. different size and different color sticks.. long sticks, medium sticks, short sticks, pieces or sticks, dark black sticks, gold sticks, Grey sticks....🤔

H4350 starts to turn colors like that when it ages in the open. I notice this when it spills around my matchmaster and the stuff outside the hopper will go yellow or light grey. Maybe it was in a big open cat exposed to humidity

Then its trash. Same.charge weight WILD lol and wild high velocities popping primers on some and slow on others.
