Gentlemen, want to see a major upgrade to the Atacar? Wait till I finally breakdown and purchase one of the current models. Next day, Nightforce will introduce a major, major upgrade including best in business glass, best knobs, best ocular, best everything, all for 25% less money then I just paid.

I have friends that live there, definelty not their usual kite surfing weather.NX8's came out in 2018 IRRCNightforce has a history of sitting on models for quite some time before updating or replacing. If I were a betting man, I'd say we'll see a new ATACR II sometime around... northwest Florida getting a bunch of snow, oh wait, we just got 8" in Navarre!!! (felt like I was back on the farm in Colorado), so I'll update that with "hell freezing over"...
The 4-20 was a strange offering that was thrown in a couple years ago, why they'd limit the low mag FOV vs. the 4-16x42??? thus leaving the 4-16x42 as my favorite ATACR to date for gas gun and crossover use.
Never understood the people that said NF glass quality was subpar. As someone else said earlier, the top tier scopes are all going to be great. Pick your poison and go for it.

I keep a cover on the objective side and removable cover on the optic side. I don't like throw levers that hang, snag and dig. I like grabbing the whole dog-gone thing with my entire hand and twisting it.
How Nightforce can improve the NX8 1-8 and ATACR 1-8:
- European style diopter adjustment, and design it so it doesn’t interfere with a scope cap
- Better FOV
- Larger eye box, exit pupil 1-8x
- Develop a dual focal plane option on the ATACR 1-8x with a true red dot at 1x (think S&B short dot dual)
Until any of these happen, I have to keep buying Schmidt and Bender or similar brands

All I want is a NX6 in 2-12 and 3-18 with:
A reticle that is very usable at the bottom end where you can hunt elk at 2x or 3x in dark timber but still has a floating dot for the long stuff.
Mil-c but with heavy post to about 3 mil from center?
Non rotation ocular, 30mm tube, low profile locking elevation turret and capped windage. NX8 weight is fine it doesn’t have to be ultralight although it would be nice. I’ll even take a un-sexy longer tube if it’s real easy to get behind.
Basically a down and dirty hunting scope that can do anything reasonable well and doesn’t have to be the best at anything.

An NX6 line would sell well. For my purposes, I would love to see a compact (< 9-10 in) NX6 1-6x, 30-34 mm main tube, large eyebox, red dot in the second focal plane like the S&B. It would be the ultimate semi auto rifle scope (11.5-16” AR variants).
This is basically the H6Xi line it just doesn’t have the reticle you’re describing
Ya not far off of the H6Xi line. That’s probably the closest example of what I’m talking about. I just want it to have a real hunting friendly reticle and baby Atacr locking turret.
Call it the NXH (Hunter) and sell a shitload of them to guys who will buy anything with “Hunter” in the name and make the reticle easy for old eyes to see at low power to capture the “Hate FFP, can’t see the reticle” crowd.

-get the flagship treatment with glass. Throw the very best in it to help with image stability
-open up the exit pupil from 7.9 to 10mm
-slightly wider fov (115ft maybe)
-swap turrets to lo-profile turrets
-change from .2mrad .1mrad adjustments
Frankly it's so close. I would literally throw a stupid amount of money at them if they pulled this off. And before someone says something dumb about 30mm tube and exit pupil the steiner p4xi has a 12mm exit pupil at 1x... so it can be done.
That would give us
Nx8 1-8 for carbine use
1.5-12 atacr for spr use (read small frame)
4-16 atacr for dmr use (read large frame)
The higher mag shit for lrp use
Extremely premature speculation talk...will 2026 be the year of the NX6, Gen 2 ATACR, a hunting line??? I'm bored...
Given S&B’s insane pricing (even before the tariffs) and the tariffs on imported goods, I would love to see an updated ATACR line or improved NX8 line. A compact 1-6x NX6 carbine optic with a second focal plane red dot would be wonderful. I would also like to see a Euro style adjustable diopter.
Uh.... Nightforce is mostly Japanese so tarrifs are in play as well. SB is just smoking crack all their pricing is all pre tariff
Given the price hike, IF they come out swinging...I doubt there will be much if any difference between a ZCO and a "ATACR gen2"...and I'm not sure they have the chops to win that 1v1 for the non-fanboy and non-contract.
They have too much name recognition in the industry so even non fanboys tend to lean their direction; however, the price hikes can really change that perception I believe. They waited longer than most to their credit. Will be interesting to see if something new comes soon.
For sure. Look at Leupold; even before they got things worth looking at like the Mk5 how their name still rang out despite their actual place in the optics race.
If they're still making money off their current line up, I'm not sure NF will do anything to change that. An ATACR 2 will surely require dropping prices on their current gen stuff (or raise gen 2 prices to near alpha tier levels) to differentiate between offerings.
Still have those retarded 12 mil turrets. Why not switch to 10 mins like everyone else with sense.
I'm hoping against hope that they have stuff on deck for after the Swaro patent expires next year but as far as I remember the companies who use LOW aren't abiding by the patent in the first place. I'd dig an NX6 for a hunting scope though. Even an NX5 actually.
The S&B 6-36 euro-spec models already exist in the EU market, the original explanation was the FOV patent was defeated in court, but only in EU.
is there now another explanation?
I just checked the other thread again and seemed that originally Koshkin thought that there were additional patents stacked on top but looking at the patents again, he says they've all been adjusted to expire in June 2026 so hopefully we'll see some new releases come next year.
