    Hey all,

Been thinking about it for a while now. Maybe I should upgrade and get a better rifle. I have many, but the one I'm thinking about replacing is my howa in 6.5 CM. It's a prs style rifle and has served me well but every now and then, I get that itch about trying something better.

My 3 top contenders, in no order, are a t3x, a seekins hit, or an origin/nucleus.

I've heard seekins makes a very fine rifle and has some of the best customer service. I also really really like the rifle as it looks.

Tikka would certainly be an upgrade from my howa I believe. While shitty customer service, you can sometimes snag really good deals here so it might be worth it if there is really good deal to be had.

Origin or nucleus are absolute certain upgrades. Not really looking to spend on the higher end customs but these seem like good options.

All in all, I would prefer an action that barrels are easy to find for it. I'm not sure where that leaves the seekins, or what type of barrels it takes. I've seen many barrels for tikkas here on the PX so that tells me they're pretty common for the tikka. I've even found some pretty good deals that I've almost bought a barrel before just in case I ever got a tikka. Origin and Nucleus seem to be popular actions but I'm unaware of how easy it is source barrels for those. I think I've seen more aftermarket barrels for tikka here than for these two customs. Any thoughts?

You want an impact 737r. It will have the best barrel availability of any short action on the market. Period. End of discussion.

Out of those options, the Origin.

There are plenty of prefits available for many actions these days. Which action has the "most" shouldn't even be a criteria, IMO. You really just need to get to the point of enough, where its easy to get a prefit. Of which there are many actions that fit that criteria.

Another point for zermatt is that changing bolt face dimensions is both tool free and comparatively cheap. Under 150 shipped for bolt heads vs 350 or more for a new bolt in most brands. Makes having a 223 trainer barrel really easy and even more economical.

    Origin.
Arc doesn’t make a nucleus anymore, they are all in on the cdg going forward.

But if you like your pre64 win70s, you’ll like the controlled round feed and mechanical ejection on the origin.

This was my train of thought. I said nucleus on my OP but I was actually thinking CDG. Thanks for bringing that up.

Today I shot one of my SPRs and boy does that thing just bring so much joy. I like the CRF. I'm looking up the 737r per the recommendations here but those do not appear to be CRF. I'm not dead set on CRF but I'll probably lean that way a bit more than push feed.

I was just shooting a fri3nds 737 in a foundation this afternoon while testing some 77gr loads in my PWS mk114. The 737 is a slick action (most in that price range are, TBH). I'd put it above most stillers that haven't been worked over and on par with one of my defiance deviants.

I'm kicking around adding a 737 or nbk to my safe but honestly the CdG is just as slick. Thr origin (a cheaper version of the tl3s I have) is hard to beat, though. I've put more than a few together for guys and nobody has griped.yet. zermatt is great to deal with and their CRF/ME actions work regardless of case length. Since I like my 6br based stuff, that's a thing for me. My friend is running his CdG in 6arc and it's perfectly reliable.

My vote is an origin, you’ve got the option of TL3 prefit with the HLR lug, origin prefit and a savage small shank with barrel nut setup. Then add in the the 700 foot print/trigger compatibility, CRF with mechanical ejector that is case length blind which is nice for short cases since it’s not pushing the cartridge into the side of the action on feeding/extraction.

Tikka is not prefit capable despite what some people say. There is way too much variance in headspace across actions and barrels to safely assume it will work. You have to verify with go/no go gauges.

Seekins has ONE source for barrels.

Origin/Nuke has dozens including prefits sitting on the shelf right now.

Its not a hard decision to make. If you can bump up the budget a few hundred Impact is really an easy choice. Its not necessarily a better action than Lone peak, TL3 or similar but the availability of high end pre fit barrels is unmatched. Lone peak can also shoot impact barrels and visa/versa.

I would say Origin if on a budget. I personally think its unmatched in its price range. Controlled round feed, Nitrided, mechanical ejector, inexpensive tool less swapable bolt heads, multiple different bolt knobs to choose from when ordering and amazing customer service that will always take care of you.

With a Hunts Long Range recoil lug paired with the one that comes with the Origin, and a savage small shank barrel nut, I doubt there is any other action that has more prefits available to it.

I dont know about today, but used to be able to get smoking deals on Origins from Brownells using coupon code like the one that was just available at Labor Day..

If not on a budget take your pic TL3, Impact, Lone Peak... all will be top notch excellent.m. im partial to TL3's...just picking up my 8th 2 weeks ago but you cant go wrong with any of these...

I have an eclectic locker but I keep coming back to zermatt and ARC as the on3s I reach for most often. The origin is really the easy button and you don't have to buy bolts for 350 to 500, just heads for 130 to go to different case head sizes. I've put together at least a couple dozen origins for guys (I'm TL3 but I would definitely do an origin if I wanted to do more for myself) and no.gripes yet. I like BR based stuff so the CRF/ME actions are my thing. Still regret selling my mausingfield but the TL3 that took its place in 6br is no slouch. Like the Nuke or CdG for doing things under time but the TL3 is perfect for a range fun or groundhog rifle, at least to me.

An Origin makes things easy, there’s almost always prefits out there that are available if you know where to look (and as mentioned, TL3 barrels work too with a $35 HLR lug, along with Savage-threaded barrels with a nut).

I’ve been shooting an Origin for a long time now and budget has nothing to do with it, having tried/run everything else out there, I’d buy something pricier if I thought I was truthfully leaving any performance on the table.

IME, from what I’ve seen the last few years, due to some of the me-too nature of the sport, Impacts being the most popular (by a mile) can be a double-edged sword… lots of places carry their prefits, but they also sell out the fastest in all the popular cartridges due to higher demand.

I've only had limited exposure to Origins, but what I've had leads me to a similar opinion. Nothing will replace my Deviants and lone BAT as my favorites, but I'm quite impressed with the Origin.

I'm not sure why they're so popular. Honestly, my Impact is my least favorite of my customs to shoot.

they are popular because they they just work perfectly. Right now I have 6 impacts and one Zues. I really love the 90 deg bolt version, it is so smooth. I know we each have different likes which is why there are so many options. We can all get what we like. Enjoy
