Tuner Weight

IMO it is unlikely that you can lump .9 to 1.2 all together. And length is possibly just as relevant as diameter. I'm sure few would adopt my approach but they can benefit from my observations.

I was quite uncertain of what to do regarding adding weight or not to my Harrell on my 22 inch Kukri. Here is what I did. Starting at zero I shot groups every 25 clicks(one revolution) all the way to 500. I plotted group size and group center elevation. I found a couple broad ranges that tended to be tighter and higher. I did this bare tuner and with two different weights added. Comparing the three options I could see one was better overall and likely zones for further testing were equally apparent.

For the more "ammo sensitive" among you that is over three hundred rounds and I'm likely to use another 200 to find and prove the final tune. The good news is that I now have over 96K rounds through my Vudoo 360 and I have never once wondered if I am am using a sub optimal tuner weight.

I built a RimX with a 1.20” straight barrel and EC V2. Sent to Whidden for Eley lot testing and bought a case of Tenex. Shoots really well and accurately to 325 yards without adjusting the tuner from 0. I’m 500+ rounds in and decided to order another case based on performance. Called Whidden and unfortunately sold out of the lot.

Yes, I have a ton left, but this is my favorite rifle and shoot it most often. Plus, my 2 boys can shoot it well. I expect to go through this case by spring.

Should I return it to Whidden for lot testing in the future ($140 fee plus approx $150 shipping round trip) or gamble with a lot of similar FPS and tune?

Thanks!

I think we all struggle with this one. The only sure fire way is to send/take it to a testing center. Testing it cuts down on the struggle of at home testing and the hassle of selling a lot that doesn’t shoot.

I think you’re right. Will prob save for 2 cases next time. Whidden Eley Lot Testing process was great and I highly recommend.

I’m about 6 hours from their location. I need to find some time to get there. Im on the Lapua list for Ohio. I took a chance on a case of Midas that shoots. I’m not doing that again. It’s gotten too expensive to chance.

Does a heavy barrel say .9"to 1.2" dia. work better with a light tuner or a heavier tuner or does it matter?

Thanks Joe
You won't know till you shoot it bare barrel and see how it well it can shoot. this example is of a 28" .850 Benchmark barrel group is with no tuner. tuner ended up being 4.050 oz set at 60

I have tuned 5 new lots of SK Long Range in two rifles, each shooting as good as the last. The last one I went to 200yds and fine tuned, shoots like the last lot.

I may try that by buying 2 boxes per lot of 3 lots. If nothing else, it will be fun to shoot. At 200+ yards, I can’t help but laugh when I see the bullet falling out of the sky - entering the field of view - and, of course, dead zero. Maybe not zero, but close enough for me to score an impaaaaaaact!
