I have not been aroud for a while but still shooting I use a Springfield Armory 4 x 14 x 56mm first gen scope on a NM M-1A is their any scopes out their that work the same way without going to a mil dot type I can get on target faster and put a 175 where it needs to be faster that dinking with the mil dot system. thanks Sam

Re: Springfield Armory Scopes

Whoa.... This would be easier to read with correct punctuation.

Re: Springfield Armory Scopes

Dear Mr School Teacher
I thought this site was to help other shooters not give them a hard time Sam

Re: Springfield Armory Scopes

Ahhhh, you came to the wrong site ... not using proper English or consistently using improper grammar will get you some words.

Long range accuracy requires good communication skills ... it is all part of the whole picture.

Re: Springfield Armory Scopes

Who's turn is it to bring the popcorn?

Re: Springfield Armory Scopes

dear 3rd grade dropout, I dont understand the question, whats another scope that works the same but is not the same?

Re: Springfield Armory Scopes

From a purely practical standpoint - the post gave me a headache reading it trying to figure out what it said. Pucntuation is your friend, not the enemy!

Re: Springfield Armory Scopes

Good lord guys, give him a brake. Some folks don't have spell check, (nor punctuation check.) LOL.

I want a scope that is the same as my scope that will do the same as my scope? Is there a scope out there that will do that?

OH WAIT THERE IS!.....

It's on your rifle.

Well...first off, the SA scopes were not designed to work properly with 175gr bullets anyway. The SA 7.62 scopes (regardless of which Generation you have) were built to work with 168gr SMKs at 2550fps. Anything slower or faster, or with a different bullet...isn't going to match up with the reticle. Even the 168gr load, at the recommended velocity, isn't likely going to match up perfectly. Thus...the evils of BDC reticles/turrets/etc.: They are built using a specific bullet, at a specific velocity, under a specific set of environment/atmospheric criteria, etc. Any varation from those pre-programmed data and your POI is off from your actual POA (maybe a little...maybe a LOT).

So............what I am getting at is there are no free rides...no magic solutions to range estimation and accurate shot placement at extended ranges.

There are a whole host of "possible" options out there, including the scopes and reticles listed above. I'll also add the Nightforce Velocity reticles which haven't been mentioned yet. However...they are all going to require some degree of calculation/manipulation and/or "dinking with" in order for you to put rounds accurately on target at a distance.

Re: Springfield Armory Scopes

Springfield Armory Generation 3 is one to look at. It was an awesome reticle while I had it. Nice scope too, built specifically for the 175gr projectiles.

I just got tired of the huge 56MM Adjustable Objective bell hanging out there. ITS FREAKIN HUGE!!

Respectfully...this is incorrect. ALL of the Springfield Armory 7.62 scopes with the BDC reticle, whether Gen 1, Gen 2 or Gen 3, were ALL built using the 168gr SMK at 2550fps as the load for calibration of the reticle. Other cartidges of varying calibers and bullet weights were ballistically similar enough that they could be used with the reticle, including but not limited to the .30-06 with a 180gr SP, and the 8mm Mauser with a 180gr SP, and so on.

The 1st Gen was a fixed parallax, non-target turret model with the typical FFP BDC reticle calibrated with the 168gr SMK at 2550fps to 1k.

The 2nd Gen added adjustable parallax and target turrets to the 1st Gen with the same reticle, etc.

The 3rd Gen was identical to the 2nd Gen with the addition of illumination.

The only other reticles available in the SA scopes were a mil-dot reticle in the fixed 10x56 and 6-20x56 models.

Hhhmmmm. The only Sprinfield Armory scope I ever bought was a new one back in the 1980s, and I have it right here next to me in the original box.

The box says, "Accu-range telescopic sight, 3x9 variable power, coated lenses, military matte finish, stadia-wire range finding, nitrogen filled."

However, when I bought it I opted for the non-stadia wire version that was offered at the time, and the scope that came in the box has a standard duplex reticle. So, that is one other reticle you can add to your list for Springfield Armory.

Re: Springfield Armory Scopes

Respectfully understood. I however, also used my Gen 3 for 150gr BTSP for some time on my AR10, and as long as you know your particular rifle, that reticle worked out real nice.

OK, remove the 175gr reference. My biggest reason for mentioning the Gen 3 was specifically for the rangefinding feature of the reticle, without having to do all the math. The reticle, as long as you know the sizes of objects you are targeting, works very well. I liked that reticle alot better for much quicker range estimating.

Re: Springfield Armory Scopes

I had a 3rd Gen 6-20x56mm. Great Scope. Has lots of adjustments for a 30mm tube. The quality is not that great. Made in China. I think that is why Springfield Armory is no longer selling them.

Re: Springfield Armory Scopes

Man you guys are rude...some of us type from our phone and generally do not re-read for perfectness. I understood his question just fine.

The SA Gen 3 is not is NOT made in china, it was made in Japan by the exact same company that made nightforce for many years (Hakko). SA did not drop the line, they lost the contract with the maker. They still fully warranty and support it.

That's right, they were made in Japan by Hakko, that's the same company that makes Horus vision. That company is now Japan Optics LTD.
