Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the designated name for the Military's 168 grain MTHP 308 round is? I think the 175 grain MTHP 308 is designated as MK118

Thanks Fellas

I don't know what powder but if I can remember I'll pull one when I get home tonight and weigh it for you.

M852 is what you're thinking of, as stated above, DODAC A171. Back in the day (late 80s early 90s) there was A170, which was Federal Match 168 with the nose spun closed. Worked OK for the short lines (200/300), but lost it after that.

You may want to re-consider thoughts about duplicating M852. It was a very accurate round for M14s and such out to 600, but was weak beyond that. It was rated at 2550 fps at 78ft, but I chrono'd some LC90 that only got 2555 at 15ft on a 70F day.

I did go Distinguished with it and a Navy M14 though. It shoots straight and will clean 200/300 rapids quite well. Just don't rely on it past 600. The wind will toss it around after 800.

BTW - The old standby load was 40.5gr/IMR4895 in a LC case with 2.810-2.815 OAL to duplicate the M852 load. Zero at 200, up 3moa for 300, up 7moa more for 500 or 11 for 600.

Then M852 equivalent is a great choice.

In Federal Match brass use 41.5 grns of IMR 4895.

Re: Military 168gr 308 round

Thanks Terry
I was hoping there was another drawing for 118 Match. This one has several discrepancies. It calls for a NATO headstamp but shows NM and the MV shows as 2640 wereas it should be 2550. I've been chaseing the spec difference between match and SB for a while.

Re: Military 168gr 308 round

you're wanting it for the M118LR.... not match... M118LR is loaded in "LR" brass w/ a 175gr SMK, over RE15... the charge varies per powder lot, since they load for velocity... it's loaded to 2.82"
