I was able to get a a2 bolt and it is smoother that the a1. I am looking at the covert for my next rifle.

I called and they had one in the parts department and was able to get I was lucky

Parts don't remember his name just asked if they had a a2 bolt and they said they had one.

Most likely its a primer issue. I've had 3 light strikes in the 3500 rounds (handloads) I have shot last year. All I did was unlock then lock the bolt and fire it again. That has yet to fail me. However on 2 of the light stikes, I'm certain the bolt wasn't fully locked, which mat have been the issue.

Check firing pin protrusion if you have the tools. But I guarantee it's a primer issue. All the same lot? If so contact Hornady to inform them of a potential defect in primers for that lot.

What is the round count on that specific bolt? Have you made any modifications to the trigger group? This can cause light stakes as well.

I assume all the same lot, I purchased 1200 rounds of it. It was getting pretty dirty with the sand and dust when doing 90° angled shooting. There was some dirt in the bolt and I could hear it crunch when locking the bolt. That round had a light strike on Wednesday afternoon.

That night I cleaned it fairly well, but did not disassemble the bolt. Had no issues Thursday or Friday. Then on Saturday during the match, had 2 light strikes. I'm good at locking the bolt, but will try taking it out and testing shots taken at various loose locked bolt positions.

Anyone have any issues with light strikes? I've had 3 this week. 2 in one day, during a match :( shooting Hornady 6.5cm 147 ELD Match. No we else had light strikes using the same ammo. I've only ever shot Prime 338 match ammo last year with no issue. Unsure if it's a warranty issue, or a disassemble the bolt and clean issue.

Finished an Advanced Precision Rifle week at Gunsite and then participated in my first ever LRPR match in Phoenix. Definitely a learning experience. Will be attending more around North Carolina. One stage I got a perfect score with a 3moa 5 shot group at 500y. I've never shot quarter moa at 100y before and was told this would be equivalent to shooting the same hole at 100. The rifle seems to exceed the accuracy that I'm currently capable of.
A few months ago I had two light strikes, temperature was around 30 degrees. Both fired on the second try. Once at home I stripped the bolt down and cleaned the firing pin and the the area where the firing pin goes of any oil. Since doing that no other light strikes.

Yea I had suspect service I tried to post 4 times. I didn’t want four posts haha. Thanks for the response
Suspect service? Yes, it was with a can on. The actual labradar average was 2537, shooting at a 300y acoustic target which clocked at 2200fps average at 300 yards.

Hey guys, is there a way to get in touch with Steven Wiley without having Facebook? I'd like to purchase a couple of those bolt knobs... Thanks!

I just realized I have 7 barrels for my Desert Tech, and really only shoot 2 of them with any regularity. Anyone else go a little overboard on buying barrels?

Haha, nice. I count 8, and assume #9 is in your chassis.
[ First pick i noticed 6.5 saum was in the srs chassis, so I removed that and took another pic. I do have a hti barrel not in that pic though. Still need a scope mount for that hti and she’s ready. Been slowly working on that a piece here and there when I can.I’ve been spending most of my extra time working on my new reloading room , haven’t been shooting as much as i used too.

Does anyone have a problem with their SRS A2 not dropping Short Action mags? My A1 drops them just fine, but my A2 will not. You have to put the gun down and use both hands to pull the mag out. I even sent it back to Desert Tech and they purported to fix it, but I just got it back today and the problem seems worse!

Thanks.

I have the same issue, may need to sand a bit of the skins back

Has anyone done a carbon barrel on their DT?
I’m wondering if it’s worth it. I’m considering it for hunting if the weight savings makes it worth it.

Does anyone have any insight if DT will be doing factory barrels in the 6.5 or 300 PRC?

Probably not, since those calibers can be spun up by a number of gunsmiths. They already reduced their stock of unpopular calibers such as the 6.5x47L and the 7mm WSM. I doubt they will begin selling a caliber that already has such few users.

As for the Proof CF barrel, they are lighter compared to similar contours. However, the new DT 24" 6.5 CM Hunter barrel is lighter than the Proof contour of the same length. It just depends what your goals are.

I tried the proof barrels and after about 25 rounds the groups started to open up. The best I could get the barrel to do was 3/4 moa but twice got it to 1/2 moa.

Anyone know of a smith that would take an existing 300 norma barrel and open it up to 300 norma imp? The barrel is an essentially brand new ES Tactical 30" 1-8 300NM. I just recently really stepped up my reloading game, and getting addicted to squeezing out everything I can.

I have a similar question... I have a 26” 300 win mag by FireguyTy that’s a 1:9 twist. Is it possible to get it rechambered to a 300 PRC?

I had that issue with my A1. I simply took a very small washer and put it between the skin and the chassis, then put the bolt through it and tightened it down. It provided just enough space for the mag to drop freely.
I can take a picture if you need me to.

Good idea. I have that issue and just been dealing. How thick of a washer and which screws?

Picture says 1000 words.
The washer you use could fluctuate but this is what works for me. It’s about as thin of a washer as I could find.

Thanks- it needs to make it into the field more often though!!

Pinhead, this is an extremely helpful post, and indicative of how great this site is. Also, love the camo pattern. I keep putting off doing some artwork on mine.

Unrelatedly, I am waiting on a Proof Research barrel in 300 PRC, which SAC is building for me. Anyone tried this yet?

I took this advice, and it worked perfectly. One slight modification: I inserted the washer at the screw point at the back of the magazine well. Everything still fits flush and tight. Thanks again.

Here's my bolt knob. If you're interested, I
probably still have the email receipt when I ordered it.

It appears my bolt knob was made by Snipe Custom Arms, but I can't verify they're still in business. I remember they had a website when I placed my order back in 2016, but it seems to have been taken down. They have a Facebook page, but it was last updated in 2017.

I bought my bolt knobs (three, one for each bolt) from Phoenix Custom Rifles a few years ago. They each have a different number of grooves (1, 2 and 3) to make them easy to tell apart.

Thanks! I'm calling them on Monday

tjgolf when you talk to them please let the rest of us know what they say.

Wow, you even cerakoted the whole barrel. I've had a number of customers who've brought barrels in to have the clamping surface blasted clean because some gumby painter did the whole barrel. With a tolerance spec of -.001" +.000 I'd say its a bad idea to paint the clamped surface. Amazing how tight the barrels get in some of these receivers.

Mark Gordon at SAC did it. Custom Bartlein blank. I leave it in his capable hands!
