The insects are out, moths, flies etc. so I got my salt shooter out.
It is yellow plastic and works most of the time but not all of the time. Sometimes takes several shots to Giterdone.
What is the best fly killer out there?
I am ready to upgrade. Mine is several years old, must be something better out there. FM

Foul Mike, we too have the Salt Guns.

Bug-A-Salt. We loved the first pair we picked up a bunch of years ago when they first came out. My Lady is an absolute spider-a-phobe. She dive-bombs the little bastards with whatever is near to hand. She wanted me to make the Salt Gun belt-fed, just for spiders. ;)

My point is, a few years later they came out with VERSION 2.0 and it truly is a better gun. Less salt per shot, but more power with a tighter pattern AND better accuracy. True story. So now we have two more of these babies, for a total of 4. (2 -V1 and 2 -V2.0)

I just got an email about 2ish weeks ago, that they've now got version 3.0 and they say that it is even better than version 2. And yes, it comes with a laser sight and everything.

No, we don't have version 3 and I don't see us getting any anytime soon. But, you might be interested. ( I am not an affiliate of this company at all, I'm just sharing what I actually know and have experience with)

All I can really attest to, is that the version 2 really is/was a LOT better than version 1. Hope that helps.

Put a small screw (1/2 long) into the plastic right in front of the safety with the safety in the off position and you can pump away without having to take the safety off every time you pump.

Spiders getting on the house around light sources.
Light them up, eat shit Charlotte.

One thing however, if you kill too many spiders you will have to deal with a lot of other insects.
Spiders are rather efficient insect killers and if there is lots of them, that indicates the food source (insects) are in bountiful supply.

It's a matter of keeping enough of them around to deal with the insects without letting your house look like something out of the Adams Family.
Also up to what size do you leave alone before you whack them (Of course all venomous ones get pounded without mercy or hesitation).

As I'm in a rural location regular bugs aren't of short supply.
Having a street/security light with light color siding insures a never ending supply of both.

I feel certain that I have Gen 1 and will damn sure look out for the latest and greatest.

In my experience, sea salt doesn't work well. The grains are too big.

Beats the shit out of a fly swatter. FM
Sea salt onl for big bore fly guns??

I have to say that the V2 works one heck of a lot better than the V1. In the email I received regarding the latest release, V3 it says:

"

  • New Cross Bolt Safety! Once it's on, it's on. Once it's off, it's off. Feel free to rapid fire folks!
  • Instead of leaving flies whole for easy cleanup, we are warning folks it may splatter them.
  • Redesign on trigger. It's now VERY light – so be careful! Keep away from children, pets & idiots.
  • Deadly accurate, barrel has been lifted & sight added for extremely accurate shooting. You can shoot the fly in the back of the neck now!
  • Improved, more durable salt hopper, makes tactical reloads easy during the heat of battle!
  • More powerful due to stronger spring which has created a tighter salt pattern.
  • Sleek design has streamlined the feel of the gun. It's like butter on toast!
  • Increases your odds for in-flight take down.
  • Each unit has been removed from its packaging & hand tested by our team of technicians."

Sounds like a helluva awesome form of extreme moving target practice. That is something to take advantage of, to the maximum.

What works on carpenter bees? I've tried the traps and catch one now and again. Tried several pesticides that claim to kill/repel, but still find new holes in my shop. Really odd because the shop is about 30 feet from the back of the house. Mostly brick, but eaves, soffits and fascia are wood. I've yet to see any sign. I read they tend to leave painted wood alone, but that's a lie.

That’s hilarious!

That sounds like a job I could handle.

Get some of that powder insecticide and mix it with Vaseline and put it right in the existing holes. The grease sticks to the bees and the insecticide kills them when they try and clean it off.

I use a three tiered system. Traps made from 4x4 pieces with mason jars, tennis racquet and lastly wd40. Use the racquet to kill a few and put them inside the mason jars as “attractant”. Use the wd40, with spray straw, to get into existing holes. It will keep killing them for days. Quickly too.

Goddamn Barney. That is a lot of loot for one. Someone is trying to get in your pants.
The one I have on order, V3, was around $48-somehting and shipping wasn't all that much and somebody probably got in my pants, with no reach around.
I will test fire and test drive the sumbitch and if it is good I will look into cost of shipping to Kangaroo Land and send you one.
Surely shipping couldn't be $50??? but I may be wrong.
I would want a little compensation, cost only, and not paid in Vegamite. FM

^^^ Careful sending down unda if you got the free laser deal, might want to check with @THEIS if it would violate any ITAR rules! :ROFLMAO:

Have a Black Fly Edition 3.0 heading my dad's way for Sunday. Seriously expecting sub-MOF(ly) accuracy from this bad boy!

Do let us know how it works on spiders. My Lady was dead-serious about wanting me to making these ones 'belt-fed'. Now, knowing how she is with those 8-legged mutations of nightmares that have eleventy-leven eyes (her description) I'm working on a design for more of a Mini-Gun (Salt) version. Instead of rounds per minute it would be more 'pounds of salt' per minute.

HA.

The only way it could be better for her, is if the salt came out FLAMING as well!

Did I mention that she doesn't like spiders?

Recommend this version for spiders....

That is Version 2 which is MUCH better than version 1. They're saying that the new release of Version 3 'splatters' the flies AND comes with the (tactical orange) laser site. So you KNOW it's gooder yet!

V 3.0 is reported to work on carpenter Bees. I don't have them here, but plenty of other nasty insects to eliminate.
In the words of AJ, buy more salt.

You need to load with Himalayan pink salt. You’ll thank me later.
I don't know where you're getting your 'himalayan pink salt' from (not to be confused with charcouterie 'pink salt') but the stuff we have around here is ground considerably finer than the regular table salt.
Ergo it has less mass, so it does less.

Maybe we got a shit-batch, I dunno.

From the grocery store. Slightly more fine than sea salt. I bet Amazon has a plethora of various salts.

I've found that a sheet of tin foil works great for testing patern and energy/penetration.

I have the Bug A Salt V2 and it will damage the finish on wood surfaces. Be careful when in the heat of battle.

I also took a piece of string trimmer line (red/orange) and glue it into the front sight notch which improves the sight picture.

V2 is much better than the V1, the trigger and safety are a PITA. The V3 sounds like a nice upgrade.

^^^^ hat's off to your dedication to insect eradication and weapon customization, sir!

I'll send a range report next week after my dad gets the v3 I've ordered for him.

@Sieg nice one. I hadn't gotten to the point of "patterning" the bug guns, but your use of tin-foil is awesome. Proper use of the stuff. I'd say "hat-tip" but too many would run with that into other directions/puns. HA.

(see what I did there?) ;)

And yes, as-per the descriptions, we'd like to try a few of the V3's here but they sure are proud of their items. I've re-built the V1's, and made a few tweaks a few years ago. But haven't taken the V2's apart yet. Safety removal would definitely be the first goal.

I gotta say though, their latest offering that comes with the laser sites I think is quaint, but what good is it when the fly is mid-air? HA. Only Mister Miyagi would be able to hold the laser ON TARGET with a fly in mid-air. Or would that be Daniel-son?

I ordered a V3 and the Fartknockers sent me a V2 so it is on it's way back. Pissed me off but I did re-order so hoping for the best this time.
The Squaw placed this order and she is much more adroit with these computers than I. Maybe it will work out this time.
