Nucleus Build Pictures

how does the nucleus run when loading a single round via the ejection port?

Also what have you guys found as far as what inlet in a manners mini chassis and the fit?

Mine does fine. The extractor has to snap over the case rim so closing the bolt takes a little more effort than when it captures the round from the mag but if you run the bolt as it should be (close briskly) you don’t even notice it.

I haven’t seen any warnings from ARC about that and I’m sure it will wear out the extractor a little bit faster but I’ve got an extra.

Has anyone put a BDL or Wyatt’s bottom metal on a nuke? I’m wanting to build a hunting rifle and I’m considering a wood stock and don’t want to re-inlet for an M5 DBM.

I don't think the Nuke will do BDL. No feed lips on the action that I know of unless there's a system for that, but I know of none.

I don't know if my Nucleus which from the serial number appears to be #164 was blessed by the rifle fairy, but I now have over 600 rounds through it with no issues at all. I've shot 2 local matches with the best finishes I've ever done, and a 3 day Scott Satterlee class and my Nucleus has performed great. Here's the rifle and a group shot while taking sighting shots before yesterdays match:

Nucleus action with shouldered Barloc
PVA Rock Creek button rifled shouldered barrel 6.5 Creedmoor
Huber 2 stage, 2.5 lb. trigger
Manners T2AGAP stock w/Gen 2 mini-chassis, Americana finish
Vortex AMG in Vortex PMR (Seekins) rings
Area 419 12" universal rail (the stud holes in the Manners matched up perfectly with this rail)

My action is the smoothest of the ones that I own which include AIAW, custom FN SPR, Gap Rem 700, and Stiller Spectre. I got mine in December 18 so I think it has the original 16# mainspring. Had no issues getting controlled round feeding with AI AICS mags, and have had no misfires with CCI BR2 primers or Prime 130 ammo. However, I will note that the firing pin indentations of my Nucleus are not as deep as my FN action or my AW.

Anyone running g a 6BR (or variant)? What mag(s) and kit (s) don't have issues feeding?
I’m running a 6BRa. I can get the ARC mags with LRI followers to function perfectly fine with no spacer kit. I think it would work with the ARC followers as well. I’m running the 12 round MDT mags with the Primal Rights kit. Feed perfectly fine (made slight tweak in feed lips to improve feeding) however getting 11 or 12 rounds in the mags can be extremely difficult so I run them with 10 rounds. MDT has a new 12 round BR mag coming but they say there is issues with three lug actions so it may not work but I have some on order to try.

I don't think that the MDT mags will have problems with the Nucleus. Typically a three lug action has a 6:00 lug and not a 12:00 like the Nuke.

That being said, does anyone have problems with mags interfering with the bolt when weight is placed on the magazine? I think the Nucleus is very susceptible to this issue with the position of the lugs.

I ran into this problem during a match this weekend. Mine would bind with mdt12 rounders, but no issues with an ARC mag.

Mine will bind with MDT's and AI's. Need to try my ARC and see. It looks like the feed lips are a shorter height, so it'll probably be fine.

Mine does awesome with ARC mags but no real issues with AI or accurate mags.

I’m having a first world dilemma.

New 6BR or or 6.5 short magnum or 260AI for my next barrel.

My MDT mags require quite a bit of force to start over the mag and have alot of drag and noticeable wear on the rear of the mag feed lips in my Nucleus action if upward pressure is put on the mag where the ARC have very minimal. I believe the MDT mags have taller feed lips than ARCs and need to be shortened or narrowed up possibly to prevent it. As long as there is no upward mag pressure I don't notice much difference on empty mags.

Magpul mags work great in the nukes if you're shooting a .308 similar case. I had 0 issues running 6.5 creedmoor in my nuke and pmags

I’ve noticed this as well

If you use ARC mags or shorten the feed lips so that the shoulder of the cartridge below pushes the feeding cartridge up under the extractor, you get control round feed from the magazine. There is a discussion of this in the other Nucleus thread. Additionally, you can soften the corner of the extractor so that it is tuned to the cartridge. There is a video of that and some pictures explaining.

All it took was me shortening the feed lips on my Magpul mags to get control round feed most of the time. Eventually I will tune the extrator, but if you run the bolt faster it will CRF from the mag and if it doesn't you won't notice the extractor click over the rim.

PVA barreled action in 6mmBR received in late april /early june.

Absolutely loving my nuke so far (~150 rounds down the pipe). Haven't had issues with poi shifts with the Barloc so far, but haven't ran it harder than hitting the end with my fist. Installed it with some anti-seize on the mating surfaces. Also tapped it all around while torquing, like I do with V-clamps on the aircraft I work on.

- Nucleus Short Action
- Barloc
- IBI 26" pre-fit barrel chambered in 6.5CM
- Insite Heathen brake
- KRG Bravo (place holder until I can afford a W3 folder) w/ arca spigot
- MDT elite low rings
- Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5-27x56 EBR-2c
- Atlas CAL gen II
- SAP run n gun bag

Groups are with virgin Alpha munitions brass, 140 grain ELD-M, RL16 and Federal 205M, loaded 0.015" off the lands.

Still waiting for my barreled action from PVA ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Ordered June 20th 2018. Ordered it so I could shoot a caliber that wouldn't hurt my back after surgery. However now my back is healed up and I am shooting my 308 just fine.
So here is a picture of Peter Joe Wilson enjoying himself instead.

giving the thread a bump- slowly working towards an ARC Nucleus build. I had ordered a JH from PVA but put the deposit towards a 6.5CM barrel. That will arrive Saturday.

I'm going to go with an MDT ACC chassis. I saw one in the thread, anyone else fit the Nucleus in an MDT ACC chassis and have any comments on fitment?

Also looking at different triggers. I'd like a 2 stage trigger, so looking at the Bix N Andy. TT isn't out yet (but might be by the time I actually need it), I have other Geissele triggers, did they fix the R700 trigger for use with the Nucleus?

I dropped my Nuke into my Buddy's ACC temporarily to compare the fit vs his Ultimatum Deadline (he was having issues). From what I remember, there weren't any notable issues with the Nuke. Mind you we didn't fire it or cycle any dummies through it, but as far as the drop in fit went, it seemed fine. Mine has lived it's whole operational life in a KRG Bravo with no issues, including with a Barloc installed. This would be with the current KRG backbone.

Only trigger I have experience with is the TT Special and have the 19lb firing pin spring installed. No light strike issues after 350 rounds using Factory Hornady and Federal match ammo and 205M primers in Alpha brass. This includes hunting down to 0 degree weather with blowing snow. Not the most helpful answers, but hope it helps nonetheless.

Glad that you got something out of that PVA fiasco and are finally moving forward with a build. Life's too short to be held in limbo waiting on others.

The geissele works now and is phenomenal

one big advantage for me is that I've learned a lot the past year or so of lurking on the hide and feel much more confident in getting all the parts I want to make one just the way I want it. Looking forward to moving forward and sharing knowledge in the future.

FYI the barrel I ordered from PVA will be here Saturday. :)

I just picked up an ACC and thought about putting the Nuke in it.

I don't see why there would be any issue as long as the ACC is cut for a 700 pattern rifle.

I have a Gesseile SD-E trigger in an AR and love the two stage so I went with a Huber as I picked up a cert off a prize table. It's a damn nice trigger.

But, recently pick a TT Diamond, and hot damn is that a nice single stage.

Switching to a single stage may take some getting used to, but may very well be worth it.

Only more rounds will tell.

I ordered the 19 pound spring for mine and I will get the occasional light strike if I don't keep the firing pin and spring clean. Now I run it dry just to avoid it collecting grime and it seems to work well, but I clean it every few hundred rounds, which is a PITA.

I’m curious as to why some can run 16# trouble free(me included) and others have issues.
I went back to the 19# just for piece of mind.

me 2. i had some issues at first last year, but i realized a big part was my primer seating depth. i was seating them too shallow. Deepened it, problem gone. i think the trigger pairing has a lot to do with it.
