That’s not an answer. I’m simply asking what you think is a group good enough to call an AI a quality gun. I know it’s not a dedicated bench gun.

Mine is awful too. Should get better with a comp trigger. Groups at 7 and 800 yards with bulk 140 AG ammo. And a terrible shooter

Definitely worth getting. I started with an AICS chassis with a Rem 700 300 WM action and it did good for me for about 1500 rounds until I picked up an AT with 6.5 CM and .308 barrels...after that, I wiped the tears out of my eyes and have been all smiles since. I've used my AT for about 4 years/1,000 plus rounds thus far with no issues. Great gun!
AT's are a great value. The AI reliability and performance, at a price most can afford if they save a little. I have one of the early ones (2014), at it's got well over 5000rds through it with zero problems. ...And it's had the crap beat out of it. It's seen the mud and rain of the SHC (2015), the dusty conditions of Albuquerque, NM and even the below freezing temps, snow and ice of Nebraska (Bighorn Steel Classic 2018). The rifle has never failed. Now me on the other hand.... ?
So this thread, and a few others like it, have talked me into trying an AI. I fell in love with the AT LE that I saw on MH's website, but was bummed to learn that it was LE only. I tend to prefer my rifles having short (20" or shorter) barrels, has anyone noticed any balance issues with the shorter barrels? Also, I'm reading that a LFP is ok with factory ammo, is that a safe presumption, or do I need to find one with a SFP?
Get it, Chase. Call Mile high, order a fixed AT and an AX butt stock, then get on the pre order for the accuracy obsession chassis. Debond your action and bond it and the AX butt stock to the new chassis. It is a destroyer of worlds. Ordered my ax ass end 20 min ago.

This is the plan I had in mind, just need to free up some funds. Is there a defining reason, or reasons that y'all are choosing the Obsession chassis over the MPA? I've owned and competed a little with an MPA (like one match lol), and liked the ergos enough to consider putting an AI in one.
The main reason is, the AO chassis was directly designed for the AI and to be bonded to guarantee you repeat AIs notorious accuracy. The only thing the MPA chassis has over the AO chassis is the grip. The AX butt stock has every bit of the adjustability of an MPA too. You also have the ability to run mlok accessories along the rail with the AO chassis. I've had an MPA before on another rifle too and liked it. If the AO chassis didnt exist, I would probably end up going the MPA route, but I am very very pleased with the feel and functionality of the AO chassis.
The Obsession front chassis is interesting but $1200 stings just because with the AW rear you are dropping $2k on the total chassis.. If you are looking at getting into an AI, buying a fixed AT and upgrading then spending $2000 on the forearm/rear stock, it's a $6k total, you might get $500 out of the old AI takeoff fixed stock, but no one wants a fixed AI stock. For $4800 you could buy an AX demo gun and still spend $1200 on the forearm if you wanted, but I do agree for competition the Obsession front end looks very nice.
If u didnt want the ease of the quick change barrel, you are 100% correct. If I needed to build another for some reason, this is what I'd do and have a dedicated barrel spun for it. I have about 5 barrels of different calibers for my current AI and i would be pissed about switching barrels all the time.

shot a few more groups all close in size. The biggest was a 10 shot string with the magnetospeed on the barrel and it was just over 1”
I've read the whole thread and I am sold on purchasing an AI in the next month. I have a 500 Meter range I shoot at 2 weekends / month plus 200 acres 15 hours away that I hog hunt on in South Carolina 2-3 weeks a year. I hunt usually with an SR25 or a 6.5 Grendel but would plan on using the AI also. I have a Leupold MK5 3.6-18 with Tremor 3 reticle and a 35mm Reap thermal for night time and a silencerco Omega. I have a few Remington 700 rifles that I changed stocks on and put in Timney triggers.
With all that said I am right handed and left eye dominant and shoot all long guns lefty. My two 700's are righty and always shot from a bench. AI would be on tripod or bench with bipod most of the time. I've tried lefty bolt guns and would like to go that way if possible so AI AT lefty 6.5 CM or AI AX righty ? I personally like the AX look better cause I'm used to long AR forearms but that's a secondary consideration. AT w/ AX stock is a consideration. Any advice is appreciated.

Full Featured Custom (GA Precision):
I had a GAP hospitaller built on a surgeon action, loved it, sold it. GAP did a fine and detailed job building this rifle and it performed perfectly as intended, drive tacks.
Accuracy International:
Bought an AIAX pre2014 in 338lm, loved it, sold it. High quality production rifle that was rich in features, could weather the storm, and shot well.
“Lego” build:
Pieced together a GAP tempest action, Bartlein barrel, Manners PRS1; loved it, sold it. Build came with its issues, as I had anticipated. Tempest action had an extractor that was slightly oversized and had to be filed down to chamber and close on a round. The Manners stock was channeled for a my specified barrel contour 1/4 inch too far back and had to be sanded to accept the barreled action. Also, the stock was not completely true and straight, causing the barrel to angel to one side on the fore section. Bottom metal needed to be spaced using multiple washers to be flushed with the bottom of the stock and to accept magazines. The AW magazine needed to be filed down about 1.5mm in one section to latch into the bottom metal. Despite all that work, it shot well. Top notch parts, yet has its issues as they are intended for a professional gunsmith to finesse together.
Conclusion:
Went from full custom, production AI, to a lego rifle.
NOW, I have an AIAT in California jail/10 day hold and will be released to me this weekend. Nothing could replace the pleasure of shooting and owning an AI. Its features, value retention, quality, and reliability have won me over.

so almost hate to respond to this as we have moved off the LE only stuff. I have a AT LE. I am active LE. Only difference as mentioned is the AX buttstock and a small engraving that says “AT LE Law Enforcement Only”. Oh and the LE comes in 308 only. Yes you can get another barrel and change.

Yup I switch to the AX folder. Debonding and re-bonding are easy.
Ok so I’ve built a couple of my own rifles (bighorns with Proof barrels). I’ve considered an AT a lot. How are the triggers??? I shoot TT Diamonds. Are they adjustable? Single/two? Any options? Thanks guys.
"Worth it"? ... that's entirely subjective. It's your money. Your choice. You do your research and then buy what you want. If you are happy with it, that's all that matters. I had an AI and loved it, it was fantastically accurate. I sold it and bought some other things with the proceeds.
It was a .308 and I bought it used with a high-power scope, all pre-zeroed, etc. With Federal GMM 175gr. SMKs, first five shot group at 100 yards made a nice little cloverleaf.

So all these AI threads along with the picture thread have sold me completely to the point of blowing half my bonus on an AX demo and getting a 6.5 cm barrel for it. Along with selling my tikkas for some nice glass.

I bought a new AT in .308 mid July, I finally got out to shoot it today. Factory recommended barrel cleaning, and zeroing the scope. I was definitely impressed with the accuracy at 100 yards...........stacking bullets into almost a single hole. Definitely worth the money in my opinion.
My AT is a ‘14 with the thumbhole stock. I love it! I think the best feature for me is the quick and easy barrel changes. If you pick one up, you won’t regret it.

I know this is an old thread but I am glad I found it - you've convinced me to get an AI. I am currently looking at an AT in 308 with the 20" barrel and folding stock. I know 6.5 is popular but I don't reload and the farthest I will shoot is likely 500. I would like one of the thumbhole stocks but those seem to be unobtanium. Should I look for a used gun with the thumbhole stock or just get whatever I can and hope that the conversions become available in the future?
