Hey guys got a final prototype of the soon to be released Tarct Toric 4.5-30x56. Gonna be testing it out, and running it in a few matches hopefully.
If you’ve got any questions about the scope I’ll try to answer them to the best of my ability. Thanks!

Did they send you banged up, scratched up box or is that how they look lol?

Also, you got anything you can do a comparison with?

    weight and overall length?

    total elevation?

Looks like Tracts take on the Razor 2

Curious how it lines up with the Vortex and or others in the same bracket.

What does the reticle look like?

lol this is a prototype and actually the box has a 3-15 sticker on it. So I’m sure production packaging will be much better.
I’ve got my Revic which is basically a Razor 2 that I can do comparisons with.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts @Covertnoob5

It looks a lot like a Sig Tango6 to me form wise.

I had a tango 6 and the turrets are much better on the Toric. I sold my tango 6 within weeks of getting it because the turrets were not what I’d consider acceptable. Even though they were “within spec”

Looks like i’ll be buying 2 when this comes out.

thing has more elevation than a ZCO

Have 2 of the 30mm version, and won’t ever sell them

honestly if you need that much elevation you’re probably better off with a Charlie tarac unit.

30-35mils is just enough to get to 3k with a 375/408/416 solid going 2900-3000fps

the tarac is awesome, but, it costs almost as much as a scope

Nice that you got a prototype from Jon, great guys (the owners are both named Jon). Some questions I have is that with the Toric 4-20 the turrets had a bit of play in them, have they "fixed" that or does the 4.5-30 also have some wiggle in it? The other issue with the 4-20 was that it had fairly heavy CA so if you have a chance to test that out against your NF ATACR and ZCO I'd be curious how it does (keeping in mind the scope costs half as much as the other scopes I do expect it to not be on par optically but hoping it can hold its own for the price). Another area where the 4-20 struggled was in FOV, how does the 4.5-30 compare to other scopes you have on hand. One of the areas I thought the 4-20 did do fairly well on was DOF so hoping the DOF on the 4.5-30 holds up nicely. I'm sure most of these items will be addressed when you use it in competition as that will be the real test so looking forward to hearing your thoughts after you compete with it.

I’ll do my best to address most of those questions. I’ll get out to the range tomorrow briefly. I have my Revic that glass wise should be a more fair comparison than my ZCO. I think we all know the ZCO isn’t a fair comparison.
As far as the turrets go, I’m pleasantly surprised by these. They are locking turrets so of course there will always be a small amount of play, but these are nice feeling. Much better than the tango6 I had.
I will also add the numbers and markings are some of the biggest I’ve seen so it’s very easy to read.

Jon LaCorte was a good friend when I was in the industry and he was with Nikon. I know him well enough to know he will do it right.
I love the look of this optic and hope to see a great review on it. My old eyes can't go with max 20X or I would already be a customer. The Tract optics I've seen at he range look great and always belong to a happy owner.

Price, mag range and weight, etc. seem to put the 4.5-30 up against the Razor Gen II 4.5-27 which is an older design, the Revic is a newer design but close in specs so it would be good to hear how well the new Toric compares. I know the ZCO and ATACR are not "fair" comparisons, but forgot you had the Revic.

I can’t wait to get one of these on my rifle. I’m a huge Tract fan. I have two of the 4-20’s and love them. I told Jon I would be one of the first guys in line when they released the higher mag range optic with a 34 mm tube and still plan to be.

True Tool less Zero stop or still need an allen?

Comes with the Allen. It’s an interesting clutch style system. Very easy to set tho. Same as the other Toric scope 420 model from my understanding. I had no problem setting the zero stop 1 mil below 0.

One of the big reasons I was looking into the 4-20 was that everyone said the eye box is amazing so I am interested to see what you think of this one, especially at the higher mag ranges. Also interested to hear about the CA issues wjm308 mentioned as the other reviews I had seen didn't mention it.

This looks quite promising. It looks Tract is giving a lot for the money. Will the street price then be $1,700? Any idea where the glass is sourced from now? Still Schott? Reticle options?

No street price since they only do direct sales.

I am very much a Tract fan. (I have their Tshirt on right now) I havwe wondered why they have not hod a higher scope. Am wanting to jumpo to a higher quality scope and this looks like it will be the one.

Is there an expected date of sale yet?

Covertnoob5, did a spec sheet come with the scope and if so would you post it if allowed? if not what is the weight of the scope w/o rings and rail?
Please do some low light testing and post your findings / comparisons to Higher end scopes, low end also if you want but I really don't see the need!
    Thanks!

it did not come with a spec sheet but I can ask for one. I don’t want to take it out there Spuhr right now, but that adds about 10oz probably.

Did they ever give you clearance to show us the reticle?
