Gunsmithing Graco adjustable butt plate or stock positioning system

I dunno man. Those just do NOT look like they’ll hold up and hold adjustment under rifle fire for the long term.

I’d get a rifle plate from a rifle company, not shotgun kit.

Masterclass, Tubb, McMillan, that sorta thing.

i had both the Graco as well as the SPS system on some of my old trap guns....perhaps they've changed them since then but if my recollection is still accurate they were both a bit of a pain if you wanted to make any adjustments on the fly...one had to remove the recoil pad then use a hex key to change orientations. For the most part they're both pretty similar, the former if i recall had small hex screws in a flat plate and the latter had two rotating disks inset into the flat plate...not terribly different, perhaps it took an extra minute or so to orient the disks.....they both worked fine for trapshooting as once you get them dialed in as in Trap you really don't adjust them again till they loosen. The adjustment screws work fine but i always thought they were a little small.

I would imagine in PRS and positional rifle sports it might be nice to be able to adjust the butt plate quicker?

I've actually used both, in pretty similar applications as you:
I installed a Graco on an HSPrecision stock years ago. IIRC, the center threaded tube was fairly large, and didn't leave much room around it by the carbon stock skin. I never had an issue with it feeling like it was a weak link. It worked fine.

I'm currently using the SPS system on a Manners T4A. Its a great system as well.

Neither system is quick to adjust buttpad height/angle/etc. Both are fast to adjust LOP.

Wish I had seen the SPS system when I was searching adjustable buttplates. At least the SPS allows you to cut-to-fit the plates to match stock profile. I ended up "Bubba-ing" another pre-cut trap shotgun system similar to SPS that works, but doesn't look nice...cuz we know looks are more important, right?

I’m about to try the SPS Braun. I called them and the guy recommended the Braun through the recoil pad. I’m not looking for adjustable LOP, I simply want to cant my recoil pad. I’ve looked at the Graco offerings, and I prefer the design (in theory anyhow) of the SPS. The ability to get it anodized is nice. @want2learn +1 to the screws seeming a bit small, at least in terms of the driver hex size. Seems like SPS may have borrowed some design from Graco regarding the three way adjustable butt pad, who knows, but I was told that.

I was assured by users and the companies that these type of rifles would be no problem for these systems. I thought the same thing.

This is a Graco I started to fit for a t6a manners.I knew I wasn't going to need 1/3 of the lop travel. I cut the threaded tube down to 1" long, so I didn't need to drill a deep 1 1/8" wide hole in stock. I actually marked and then dremeled the hole with a cylinder shaped stone. Brass inserts are glued in for 10-24 screws.

The graco added 9/16", which was close to what I needed. I mainly wanted the pad higher and about 3/4" longer lop.

Raising the buttpad makes a world of difference in comfort when shooting prone for extended sessions.

@6brshooter What did you use to coat that aluminum? Is that cerakote?

If I was gonna glue it on, like manners does their pads, I'd have it cerakoted. I blasted it with 120 grit abrasive and sprayed rustoleum grill paint on it. Same paint I spray on hotrod 6mm, lol. It matches nitrided actions and is fairly tough. A lot of guys use it on form 1 cans.
The 6creed barrel on that origin is rustoleum grill paint. It doesn't really add film thickness like duracoat or alumahyde.

Looks good! Does the buttplate have those oblong "washers" to adjust for cant or just elevation?

I'm a fan of the Graco hardware myself...
