Bj baldwin defense shooting

While he performance in the fight was laudable, I'm stuck wondering had his head not been down on his phone could he have seen the situation developing soon enough to avoid it altogether. I'm not blaming the victim. But as it took 10 hits for him to "finish" the fight, and the criminal got off several shots.... Yeah he had a very high degree of skill but what if his luck had been bad.

For civilians, at least for me, the first choice is always to be aware of the environment and avoid trouble. Then again, my draw is better measured with a calendar than a stop watch.

Oh come on man, you can’t be 100% situationally aware all the time. Shitty thing to armchair quarterback him on.

For those that may not know who Tori is that he refers to in the video, that would be Tori Nonaka formerly of Team Glock. I'm surprised she wasn't carrying, although it sounds like they got the drop on her and she may not have been able to draw.

Yeah, I'm sorry I can't express myself better. But, he made in part of the story when in the video he described both he and GF being head down in phones then the GF happened to look up and see something. In the long and honorable tradition of supporting hopeless causes and tilting at windmills, I am compelled to ask if we might not me better off if we were to begin to consider playing with our phones more akin to a bowel movement (best done in private) rather than a fashion play that has to be displayed to the world.

Definitely some key points here. Let’s not forget the difference between the shoot house at the range and real life, though. He could have been more aware of his surroundings, and he probably had a serious adrenaline dump that wasn’t likely to help with his accuracy. And as they say, the enemy gets a vote. At the end of the day, both he and Tori walked away, and the bad guys didn’t.

I’m pretty impressed with Tori’s reaction, or perhaps lack of ego in the situation. For a pro shooter to decide to go to cover, rather than try to fight it out shows more good sense than many of us that think we are well trained might have had.

While I understand your sentiment on cell phone use, here we have a situation where literally every important element played out correctly. They deserve nothing but praise and congratulations imo.

Good shoot by a good guy, glad he and his girl are safe. But I do have to ask, In-N-Out closes at 1:00 am, WTF was he still doing there at 1:46 am? That in itself seems like poor situational awareness. Returning work emails at that hour? I’m not saying he was up to no good or doing anything wrong, but it just doesn’t add up.

I know I’ve sat in a Taco Bell parking lot after they closed and ate food and hung out with friends a few times until well after 4am.

At the end of the day, if he wasn’t breaking the law, what he was doing there is irrelevant.

Are you a 39 year old desert racer celebrity father driving a super flashy vehicle? Or are you in your 20’s driving a stock f-150 when hanging out at the Taco Bell until 4 am? Not saying he’s in the wrong, but situational awareness and risk avoidance comes into play. From my experience, most parts of Las Vegas are rough.

Are you gonna say his girl was wearing to pretty a dress next? Situational awareness is important. Could they have avoided the whole situation by not being there at all? Of course. But you could say that about any victim of any crime ever. Should have had to avoid the situation? No. The people who shouldn’t ve been there were the ones who tried to carjack them. And their situational awareness Was good enough to come out of the situation alive And still in possession of all their stuff. Would you have done as well?

How many of you have places like that in the video that you can train at? I’m just curious. Dude has skill. Regardless if he was in the right or the wrong at being at Taco Bell and not having any situational awareness, he should be able to do so without being in fear of his or his wife’s life. It’s not illegal to hang out at a Taco Bell until 4am and it’s actually not all that uncommon for people to do so.

The guy made some tactical errors. I bet that he won't make those specific ones again. The wannabe carjackers made some tactical errors. At least one of them won't be making any errors ever again. Fortunately, the good guys won this round, and it sounds like some luck was involved (as is often the case).

My understanding is that, as a lifelong Vegas resident, Baldwin knows the area pretty well, and he was posting some cool pictures of the locked-down city on Instagram before this incident. Might have been doing something similar this particular evening, or might have just been enjoying the presence of his lady friend and not being cooped up in the house on a nice night. There is absolutely zero fault with that. Lapses into Condition White are completely normal for anyone "not on the job", so to speak. Heck, it was just last night that I stood around until nearly midnight in a dark parking lot shooting the shit with a buddy after a bike ride; this is normal human behavior. Clearly they weren't completely oblivious to the situation, as Tori was able to spot someone 80 yards away in the dark. That bought them both some time to determine a solution to the problem.

Obviously, we can all take away some lessons from this incident, but there is a line between constructive criticism and victim-blaming, and it seems like the good guys here deserve the benefit of the doubt.

One thing that bears mention is that typical patterns of criminal behavior have been affected by this lockdown. The normal pool of victims in tourist towns simply aren't there, so criminals have to adapt and that means areas which were previously "safe" may not be so at this time. Just something to think about, especially as we move into the busy summer months.

Hopefully I would have done as well, but there’s a greater chance I wouldn’t have been in the situation in the first place. I’m not trying to shame him for anything, just pointing out that risky behavior has a higher chance of negative consequences. I’m very glad he won this round.

I wanna know what pistol he was using and what all
Work is done to it. He can shoot the hell out of that thing.

only shame was the second guy didn’t catch a round or 8.

Pretty dang sure that his performance has very little to do with the tool and almost everything to do with the user.

Happy ending for the good-guys. Thinning out the gene pool.
