Been shooting a while.

My random thoughts ( and google ) on equipment or how something may work keep bringing me here.
Also just got the last part in to assemble several gifts from my wife into a usable rifle.

So. Figured i should sign up.

Have a spot a few min away from me where i can set up targets up to around 500 yards. Been having fun with a mostly stocm rem 700 and a very cheap BSA scope.

The Tikka and nightforce scope are going to be a lot of fun to bring out there.

Sounds like a decent start. Good stuff here on what questions you’ll throw out here, Welcome on Sniper’s Hide, from SC. 🤙

Welcome aboard. Jealous you can shoot close to home like that. Damn cities.

Looking at a Tikka and maybe a Nightforce myself.

Takes me an hour to get to work, but i like my house, and the town im in is tiny. Also why i can get into deep empty woods so quickly.

Was looking at a few different rifles. Liked the Tikka more than the Sako

Ended up with the nightforce mostly because not many companies have the reticle i wanted ( tremmor3 )

Tikka is an excellent choice. I’ve never had a Sako. What sort of characteristics and features are you looking for?

Rep on stock accuracy, ergonomics, and chambered in 30-06. Didn't want another Remington. Mostly came down to sako or tikka. Just didn't like the way the sako worked.

Right on. I’ll get another Tikka eventually. I’m shooting a Steyr, and have found their Pro Hunter rifles on GB going for $700 new. If you’re open to a hunting profile barrel. My SSG is a tack driver so far.

At any rate, pics when you’ve got ‘em!

Oh, very nice!

Is the Eye relief finicky on that scope?

Did I read that right you’re going 30-06? Badass- haven’t found anyone doing long range builds in that outside of back country hunting rifles.

Welcome to the group!

Yup, it's 30-06 . The rem is 30-06, so already plenty of components. Also able to load up heavier bullets than .308

Though turns out the 1 in 11 tikka uses doesnt work so well with the really heavy bullets.

Meh, plan on getting a long heavy barrel on it eventually. Plenty of practice to be had with it as it :)

I will be putting a .30-06 remage barrel on my 700 and seeing what kind of hand loads I can come up with. I always think of this quote when I see premature talk of .30-06 being obsolete: “The king is dead. Long live the king!”

Yaaaaas. I have a 30-06 in a 700 sps and love it. Would love to see someone make an awesome build and send it.

I believe if 30-06 came out today it would be a big thing. Definitely want to see your build when you’re done.
