I’m in the market, am I wasting my money if I don’t go Giraud? I’d rather not work anything by hand and already have a Hornady prep station that is awesome for everything but trimming for accuracy. (It does fine for 223 bulk stuff) I’ve already had a franklin hated the adjustments and the amount of plastic on it. let me know what y’all think.

You can't go wrong with the Giraud, whether it's the full bench version or the Tri_Way (which is what I use. . .as it's very fast, saving a lot of time and accurate too). If cost is an issue, a Trim It 2 is worth considering as it works much like the Giraud.

The tri waydoesn’t give very many caliber options though?

Actually, there's quite a number of dies for many calibers to be used with it. Scroll down on the link below . . .

I meant the Giraud tri-way, I remember someone telling me it won’t do Creedmoor cases. Not only that but I shoot a bra and a gt too. I think I need to get the full Giraud, they have all the sizes covered. But I am going to look into that black widow before I pull the trigger. Thank you for your help/opinions

One other you might want to check out is the Henderson Precision Gen II Power Case Trimmer, which is a very well built tool. However, I don't particularly care for it as I like the cutting length based on the head space which is measured off of the shoulder as the Giraud does (and the Trim It 2 also). Some people just don't care about that. Soooo . . .

I’ve been looking at that too, at first I was like 800$ no fuckin way! But then I started adding up cutters and caliber conversions for Giraud and excepted my fate, lol. It seems the ease of use is there for sure. And who’s to say is to really that far off if you size first? Does it even matter if it’s repeatable? I’m starting to think all these high end trimmers rely pretty heavy on your sizing die. And by that same logic, wouldn’t a fireformed to chamber be the most accurate piece to base your measurement off of? I know damn well there is a margin of error in my shoulder bump even with custom chambered dies. What do you think about that theory?

If one is not turning necks, then I think your theory is valid.

But if you're turning necks, the length of that neck is important as the cutter on the neck turning tool comes down to the shoulder/neck junction. While the case length can be very uniform from case to case using a tool like the Henderson's, but the length of the neck will not be since the cut stop does not have any relationship to that junction. Since I do turn necks, this is why I use a Giraud. If you have a neck turning tool like the IDOD, then I suppose it doesn't matter. ;)

Man I’ve had multiple cars cheaper than that idod (I was driving age in 2001) and I know hat thing is cheaper than a real nice barreled action. But damn I think I’ll stick with my k&m set up. And since I turn as well, I’ll be buying the Giraud, plus I get to keep my money in Texas with Texans, that’s always a plus. Thanks again for your help, I owe you one dude.

I use the cheapo lee trimmer on a hand drill haha. Thousands and thousands of rounds done this way. I will say however it is my least favorite step and would love something more streamlined.

It was my least favorite step too, particularly as I had to follow up with separate steps of chamfering and deburring. The Giraud reduce the 3 steps to 1 and the one step was way faster. Now, cleaning my brass is my least favorite step though I dry tumble. 😵

Nice. Yeah I really should get one of those but honestly since ammo prices have been so low for bulk calibers I have just been buying factory ammo and focus my reloading time on precision LR loads, which are much lower volume.

Another Henderson user here. When I added up all the costs for the Giraud for multiple calibers, Henderson was the winner for me. Haven't used it extensively yet, but adjustments were quick and easy and you can use multiple stop bolts pretty easily to get trim length set.
