I will flat out take a stand against this viewpoint right here:
If you want to live in a place where the police don't come when they are called and generally do what they are supposed to, move to Somalia.
The concept our nation and our policing system is built in boils down to this: Take justice out of the hands of individuals and share the responsibility for it as a state.
This responsibility goes 2 ways - its the responsibility to deliver fair justice, and its the responsibility to handle the consequences of delivering said justice.
To whit, killing your uncles friend for raping your daughter is VERY cathartic. And just. Killing your uncles friend because your uncle said his buddy did it....when he was the one who did it....creates a never ending chain of problems.
And that is before retribution comes into play. Now your uncles friend's family is murderously enraged, because they KNOW that he was out of town that weekend, as they were out of town with him. So they kill your grandmother in response. And then you kill their dog, because you didn't like granny that much...and so they burn your house down...and so you...and so they..and and and and and and.
OR our Justice system, which does actually work decently, finds out it really WAS your uncle and puts him in prison forever. And if you want to be madder about what happened to your uncle than what happened to your daughter.....you have to fight a whole society to get yours back. Good luck.
That said, the second the government stops responding to them doing you wrong, but arrests you the second you fight back...fuck that. Your government no longer belongs in the halls of power.
