Similar to how car clubs (Corvette, Porsche, etc.) get together for a day, I'm thinking of something for AI only where the only requirement is that you own an Accuracy International rifle (and bring that to shoot), not just an AI Chassis but an AI action. Is this limited to just those that live in Colorado, not at all, but since I live in Colorado and would be trying to organize this I will be looking for places to shoot in and around Colorado (some other possibilities might be New Mexico and Kansas near the Colorado border).

Mostly just testing the waters here to see how many Hide members might be interested in something like this, initially the shoot would be just for fun and not a competition per se, but knowing our competitive nature I'm sure some friendly H-O-R-S-E type competitions could ensue.

I will be contacting my private range (Frontier Sportsman - Hanover, CO) to find out if they would allow access for non-members if it is an "organized" event, but if you belong to a range (in Colorado) that you know would allow multiple non-members please post or PM me.

Edit: Watch this thread as I'll keep it up to date with info on when, where, etc.

    First Colorado AI Shoot
WHEN: Sunday October 4th at 10am
WHERE: CHAFFEE COUNTY SHOOTING RANGE - https://maps.google.com/maps?q=1655...106.087418&sspn=0.26273,0.614548&vpsrc=0&z=16
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Accuracy International Actioned Rifle(s)
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT: Tripod, shooting mat, canopy, food, water, etc.
COURSE SCHEDULE: Have fun and get to know each other. Steel out to 700 yards for sure, possibly further.
SIGN UP: Just PM me and let me know, since it is public there is no limit other than how many can fit at the shooting line.
NOTES: This is a public range so anyone can be there FYI. Colorado in the fall, should have some beautiful aspens if we don't get an early freeze and nearby Buena Vista has some amazing aspen groves. Weather could be anywhere from 80's to the 20's so we'll just have to watch the forecast and be prepared. Since it is a public range you are welcome to get there early and no big deal if you come in late, but 10am is when I'm planning to try to get there; good news is there is nothing to setup unless you need to sight in.

Hope everyone knows I was joking about the Savage issue. But, it could happen. I’m no Savage fan. 👍

7 Yes's and 4 Maybe's sounds like we've got plenty of interest. I will begin looking into venues to hold the match. Stay tuned...

Been in contact with my range and working to see if they'll let us set it up.

In the meantime, the first Colorado AI fun shoot was held at Royal Gorge shooting center outside Pueblo, CO. Alright, it wasn't "official" but it was still fun to go shoot with @canezach on Sunday. Had a chance to play with some nice optics as well, we had the TT 5-25x56, Minox 5-25x56, Nightforce 7-35x56, March 5-42x56 and the ZCO 4-20x50.

Twas a fun morning, indeed! It was especially nice to see the target indicator flash hit after hit at 1660! Between the 25 Creedmoor and the 7 SAUM, we were putting in some work! As always, it's great to shoot with you @wjm308

Bummed I am not closer...I used to Rock climb couple miles north of canyon city when I was stationed at Carson... Miss that area

I'm assuming you went up Shelf Road? Lots of spots up that way to rock climb

Status update. My range is willing to allow me to host with non-members but I have to obtain liability insurance for the day, which I’m told can be pricey.
I’m going to find out how much exactly.

Another option would be the public range at Cheyenne mountain (Ft Carson) where we’d have to share with others, not ideal but curious how many might be up for that.

another AI shooter thinks we might be able to do it at a range he belongs to but distance is limited to 600 yards.

Unfortunately I cannot modify the original poll so I’m going to ask those who are interested in the Colorado AI shoot to send me a PM with your choice of preference:
    • My range south of Colorado Springs at 1000 yards but with entry fee to cover cost of liability
    • Another range south of Colorado Springs with potentially little or no entry fee but limited to 600 yards
    • Cheyenne Mtn with limited steel options and public range, minimal fee

I might know of some private land to shoot on but what’s the legality of it for the land owner as far as if there is an unforeseen accident or the likes??
Part of the issue is an organized group, if it was impromptu I think there’s a difference. Life has got the best of me of late but I’d love to get something together especially now that my straight jacket armory 6.5 Creed came in last week

I'm down for both the CO and TX shoots.

Wouldn't mind car pooling up to CO with a few of the Houston guys. Sounds like we might need a few vehicles since I have 3 shooters total including myself

Okay, I think I have a viable option.

This is a range that has steel out to 600 yards and possibly out to 1000 based on some reports, the location is near Buena Vista, CO nestled in the Rocky Mountains.

This range is right next to the Chaffee County Landfill.

As of 2016 this was a free range managed by Colorado DOW and is open every day from 6:30am to 1/2 hour after sunset (I am assuming it still is). Because it is a free public range there is the possibility of other shooters but offers a great location with great options.

    Here's a short article

It is not ideal but I think offers the best opportunity for how much interest there has been so far and not having to deal with liability insurance.

Next I need to decide a day and get something on the calendar.

Let me know if this sounds good to y'all for our first Colorado AI Shoot

Please PM me if you think you'll be able to make the shoot on October 4th (details above), we're just under 2 weeks away and it'd be good to know a rough count, but feel free to show up last minute as this is a public range.

There's also a team match oct. 3 at Pawnee if you guys wanna ai bro it up.

Was just up at Cuchara this past weekend with the fam for a quick escape, leaves just starting to turn, could be really colorful up in Beuna Vista next week, bring family and they can go sight seeing while we shoot.

PS - stayed at a cabin at Yellow Pine Guest Ranch, I highly recommend this for a weekend getaway - https://yellowpine.us/

Weather looks amazing for this Sunday. 77° and only 4mph wind, granted this is the mountains so it could change drastically in the next 6 days ;)

Weather looks to be great tomorrow. Should make for a fun day, hopefully a few of you are able to get out, see you at 10 in the morning.

As a bonus I’ll have the new March 4.5-28x52 scope with me so you can see what this coming scope has to offer.

Well it was a fun time at the range. Never been to Chaffee Country before. Weather was amazing, steel was ringing! It was too crowded for my taste so we'll try something more obscure next time and hopefully others will be able to join. The pig at 600 yards was way too easy to hit, so we started hitting the 4" flappers, prairie dogs and other tiny targets.

Thinking of doing another one maybe next year? Finally getting an AI and I live in NOCO so I would definitely be game for this

I'm sure we will, since it was just @wjm308 and me who showed up. I'm a member of a range that goes out to 2000+ and wjm is a member of a 1000 yard range. We had discussed talking to our respective ranges to see if we can reserve one for a few hours, but we didn't have the time to organize it. With more time, we'll be able to find a more acceptable location.
