So I was at my local shop and saw an older POF 308 piston gun on consignment. Owner wants $1900 and some change for it. I have a reflex can that would be an awesome addition to this gun. It would be a sweet big boy recce style carbine. The only problem is I only know of mixed reviews on POF. Seems like they are either a disaster or the best rifle someone has owned. This one appears to be an older model with the shorter/thicker handguard. I saw some wear of the coating around the edges of the ejector port, so it has seen some use. Being that it's a 308, I am not overly concerned. What would the value be on this and is it worth taking a shot on?

Thinking it would be sweet with a reflex suppressor, 1-8x optic and illumination.

Check if it is a gen4 lower and if it has the e2 chamber. If it does it’s probably a good one, if not, I’d pass on it unless you could shoot it first.

Only skimming your post ill tell you this. You see a lot of used pofs on the market. Now compare that to say...sr15 or sr25 or even an lmt in mlok, or radian. Not people reselling new for profit but used. As in people not happy with purchase or they want something else.. will say I've seen more used pofs thrn all the other names mentioned combined. There is a thread on arfcom about a disaster of a situation with a guy troubleshooting his. Are they g2g? I dont know. But i do know what is!

I have a POF in 308 which was crafted and sold before the e2 chamber. The gun shoots well and operates reliably. I enjoy the rifle.

the 308 at the top is about 10 years old, not ambidextrous and not E2, but it's been flawless suppressed and unsurpassed- No idea exactly how many rounds, but in the many thousands- very smooth shooting and a piece of piss to clean. I believe it has the old 5R barrel.
The bottom rifle is one of the new Revolution ~8lb 308s.It's been functionally flawless, but it's grouping between 2-3 MOA with mil surp- I need to find a load for it. Considering its weight, recoil is not unpleasant at all. And it is light. I'm up to about 500 through this, but then I ran out of ammo. So I painted them instead....

Using the metric of seeing tons of them up for sale used, ( which I actually don't), I see more LMT's . So I guess they must be even worse ?

I see a shit ton of quad rails. I dont see many mlok at all. Very few sr25s that are not new and even fewer jplrps.

I think it means something.

$1900 seems steep- I've seen sales on new ones for not much more. My unfired Revolution ( piston) was picked up on ARFcom for a big chunk less than that, maybe keep shopping around some more ( apparently there's a ton for sale)- Wear around the ejector maybe a sign it works...
The older one ( top) came with a fat, sharp quad rail originally, think it cost about $180 to switch it out for the slimmer rail.
They do play well with suppressors and 1-8's- Mines wearing a Trijicon Accupower..

My POF gen3 has been very accurate, and runs flawless even with suppressor. Ive seen good and bad ones, but more good ones by far.

I have an older one. Got it about 10 years ago. Had some troubles when I first got it and they fixed it even though it had to go back twice. Shoots great and runs great. That said it sits in the safe and I have thought about selling it once or twice but never did. It's not the first rifle I grab or even the second. To be honest for that much I would pass on it.

$1900 is a little steep, used $1600ish is probably better. Good rifles, just have to either play with some different factory ammo or load develop for it if you're wanting to chase precision with it.

As far as thinking they aren't good because you see them used thats a crock. Look at all the used scopes in the PX- are they all garbage because someone decided to try something else?
