Long story short, I'm looking to get recommendations on a decent "compact" 3x9 or 3x12 power scope. I just bought a US Optic 3x12 which is only 9.6" long (exactly what I want) but the preferred reticle only comes in the FFP version... and I'm not a big fan on the difficulty in seeing it on low power (not lit btw). Full disclosure, the only reason I'm looking for a compact is I just don't like the look of a stretched out optic on an AR platform rifle, particularly this one as it only has a 10" handguard (SIG 716). Budget: I'd really like to stay below a grand ....Thanks in advance !

Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50 F2 (second focal plane model).
As much as I'd like to give NF more of my $$$$ I cant do another $2k scope just because I don't want "long"... this is all preference not performance.
No parallax adjustment (most scopes that top out at 10x don't have them). But seems like a dandy.

Well if you came up on budget and scored an NXS 2.5-10x whatever for at or under $1500, I don’t think you’d feel cheated. There’s the SHV 3-10 but it doesn’t come in Mils. If that’s not a deal breaker it meets your price point. I’m assuming by compact you’re into 12” or less overall length. All of these are second focal plane. Not to come off snooty but I’m very unfamiliar with less expensive options that aren’t LPVOs that are 12” or less.
