I'm running a 930 spx, so the 2-3/4 is kinda nice. I have a couple cases of low brass 7 shot I think.. was just hoping to find a hundred of #1 buck if it's available. perusing the normal online sources, pretty much everything is sold out.. I guess it's time to fall back on the AR and wait this election out.

Goose or turkey loads and any thing from IC to tighter. If steel, Don’t go tighter than mod.

dont need buck shot to take down a bad guy, IMO.

My defensive shotgun is loaded with a diverse set of shells. First 2 shots are with buckshot, next 2 are double OO buckshot, the last 2 are rifled slugs. The closer the bad guy gets the more firepower I think I need.

But rest assured 7 1/2 with a full choke will take down most folks unless they are wearing a big heavy jacket. Then you aim for the head. Problem solved.

No.

7 1/2 will not take down a man.

Dig the wad out of a neck. From across a small living room. 10 feet. This was a person in shorts. No shirt. With 7 1/2 shot.
No major damage.

Then tell me how good it works.

Good luck with that lawsuit.

At least get a serious turkey or goose load. Or learn to shoot a dang carbine if you wanna be serious.

But the real question is why didnt you listen to ArmyJerry????
A few 250 rd cases of 00 buck is on the list of buy more ammo!!

From a 12 ga? Wow. Only 10 feet with full choke? Having seen what a 20’ga can do to a duck blind (not ours but across pond with guests way back in day) #6 went through 1/2” plywood like butter, Granted point blank, that’s hard to believe I mean I believe you but no heck I’d want to get shot with anything coming out.

Using 7.5-8 would likely end one up in court for blinding the assailant, but may well work to break off a home break in unless the bad guy is armed. Heck I bet a lot of people don’t know what shot they have loaded. .

My sister-in-law is a trauma nurse at the county hospital in Oakland CA. She has seen people shot and stabbed with everything imaginable. She says the most effective and consistent way to kill someone is a shotgun with BB shot. It makes way too many holes that are too deep so they can't stop the bleeding.

My house gun is loaded similar to @BullGear, first two shots are BB shot, next 2 are 00 buck, the last 3 are slugs.

*Patiently waiting for the full-on "birdshot Vs. buckshot" debate.

OP: Have you looked for #4 buck? I admittedly haven't looked for shotgun ammo for a while, but I did see where Mossberg 500/590 shotguns were going for close to $1K recently on Gunbroker...and people were bidding. I imagine the run on ammo is correspondingly crazy.

My HD shotgun is loaded with Federal Flite Control copper plated #4 (31 instead of the normal 27 pellets). The shotgun is actually a backup to my 5.56, but it sits in a closet loaded...this is what happens when you run out of space in your third gunsafe and your wife puts her foot down on a fourth. You end up with loaded guns in every room.

Doesnt everyone have a loaded gun in every room?? 🤣🤣🤣

I dont debate it.
It would like discussing which has a bigger payload, a Honda Civic OR an F450 Super Duty?

I really just wanna know how anyone doesnt keep some of their chosen HD shotgun ammo on hand?

To be honest, I started with high power rifles (I attended Allegheny SC #1) , then moved to carbine, then to pistol... I'm just starting to develop my shotgun skills. I am not incapable of operating effectively within the confines of my home, just looking to become 'well rounded' in these troubled times.

$200 stamp and you can own a SBS. You can walk around your house with ease and still have that shotgun blast whenever you need it.

That was a good and honest answer.

If you dont get some from bmxer, I will spot you a couple boxes for shipping.
I have been expecting this kinda crap for a long time. And have prepared. 😎

Do you work in medicine? Just curious based on your handle.

7 1/2 doesnt even reliably kill birds....hell, it doesnt even reliably break clays....its not going to "take down" a full grown man.

small crippled children maybe...but not a 200lb person intent on harming you.

In a pinch you can ring a birdshot shell just above the brass and below the wad and it'll separate and the whole goddamn thing will stay intact and go downrange a lot like a frangible slug. It'll penetrate because the whole mass is intact but once in there it's still got 600 pellets inside... Never tried it, read about it.

Hornady TAP 00 is pretty fucking hard to beat for buckshot.

I tested every round I could get my hands on. Those did best. Worst was Winchester PDX --those genius motherfuckers put the pellets OVER the slug on buck and ball combo. And buck combos were shit too.

If you really wanna fuck 'em up though, #4 buck, #4 buck. 40 pellets with just enough umph to make it to organs --and more than enough in case a few don't. They used to be popular with SEALs in Vietnam for breaking ambush because you can put a LOT of lead downrange FAST with it. The best are probably the XX magnum loads, 42 pellets? 47? But they're 3" loads. And they kick more than anything else I tried.

Not into gimmicks, especially with ammo, but I got some of these because I figured the commies would ban 'em for sure. After expanding, those six petals are triangular shaped and serrated and come apart. The pig xrays looked brutal:

self defense usually means your in your home, possibly up stairs where the family /kids sleep

over penetration is a bigger issue than taking more than one round to stop a bad guy

pretty good video i watched a while ago

Thats really easy to claim when you aren't having your head bashed in by an intruder

I'm going to guess the risk of a stray pellet Just happening to hit someone through a wall is FAR less than the risk of an armed intruder harming you before you can get a second shot off.

I think over penetration and wall penetrations is way too overemphasized in shooting.

If you are relying on a few layers of sheet rock and an anemic round choice to protect your kids, you are doing it wrong from the get-go.

So, first of all, here is buckshot

And here is 1 7/8 oz of BB or #2.

If you can't kill an intruder with either of these, I suggest rethinking your plans for home defense.

As for 7 1/2's killing....yes they will

Then why have a shot gun at all...

Grab the AR instead

I assure you if you shoot a large man in the knee cap with a .410 you will take him down like he's genuflecting to the Pope. Don't know what's in the perp's hands but I bet at least one of them will be empty grabbing the knee for relief. Motivated by recent deadly encounters with law men, I am pretty sure recently Joe Biden, while impersonating an Archbishop in church setting , seriously recommended LEO's re-training to "learn to shoot the perp's in the legs". The resistance to perform said shot is that a knee cap shot is not nearly as elegant as a head shot however the perp still being available for the interview downtown if that's important.

I use federal flight control LE 2 3/4 inch shells. Great patterns out to 50 yards from an 18 inch Mossberg 500.

I keep 4 buck loaded in mine, it will drop wild hogs like Thor’s hammer so should be gtg for bad guys.

i stocked up on federal flitecontrol 00 buck and truball slugs for hunting and hd. i prefer one big hole and no spread.
if i was worried about over penetration, i'd probably go with #2-#4 buck to be safer.
didn't get any of the federal FC when they were selling #1 buck.

Ever seen a deer shot in the face at 20 yards with a 12 gauge 7.5 birdshot?
I'll assure you it has amazing results

Of course this was about 30 years ago so things may have changed?

That 7.5 is a kinder, gentler ammo today than 30 years ago. I'm just saying........

no. they have a lot more variety of loads that don't use the FC wad, but le13300 looks like reduced recoil FC ammo.
