It seems like the number one selling used scope on here is the Vortex razor HD gen 2 4.5-27?

Why is everyone selling them? What's everyone going to? Is it just a starter scope? Is there something better in a similar price range?

I don't think it's a reflection of them being bad. I love mine.

I think it's a versions and volume game... They keep releasing more improved reticles and thre are 10x maybe 100x more Razors on the market than ZCO so you see more for sale.

There also a gateway scope to Higher High End or Exotics... people maybe eventually move from High End to Exotic.

1. To move to something else, it's a common scoping/shooting syndrome, and can be quite expensive, if you get it.
2. Various, but they are stepping up, I don't know anyone stepping down into a cheaper/less feature-packed option.
3. Every book is a children's book if the kid can read...so, not exactly "starter."
4. Subjective answer, but - in general - no, nothing better in the used market at a similar price point.

I have the 3-18 on my most accurate gun and could go to something nicer, but shooting is a confidence game, and if I had to make a cold bore/cold shooter shot in a real world scenario, it'd be with that gun.

They are great scopes for the money. BUT, for more money, there is better...

Most of us probably do the same song and dance:

1) buy budget scope ~$500

2) out grow it after a year or so- sell for a small loss and buy next scope for ~$1000. Only had to come out of pocket a few hundred bucks this time.

3) out grow that scope and ready to step into a really good scope. Sell for small loss and Find a razor used or on good sale from dealer for $1650-1750. Only have to come out of pocket a few hundred bucks.

4) shoot razor for a while. Awesome scope. But now you’ve really been bit. You sell for the same price you paid for it basically. For the almost the same out of pocket cost that you’ve been shelling out to slowly upgrade to these other scopes you can be into a used 5-25 NF ATACR/Khales for just over $2000.

5) you shoot the next tier scope for a bit and now everyone is raving about 7-35 ATACR: and ZCOs and TTs. So you sell your current scope for basically what you paid for it because you bought it used. And for a a bit more than your usual out of pocket Chunk of change you are into the top shelf scopes.

The razor is a great stepping stone scope. Some people get curious and keep moving upward. Some love them and stick with them.

They seem to be the most accessible entry into long range while still maintaining a very high quality standard.

The same guys that complained about how heavy it is are the ones adding weight kits to their 6mm rifles now🤦‍♂️
But but but the razor is top heavy! How am I supposed to level it out if so much weight is above my bubble level? Weight kits are low so it keeps the rifle level (the whole pendulum thing).

It's the stepping stone. It's the Cheapest of the "High end"

This, you buy one used and use it and take care of it you will not lose much money on it when you flip it back to recoup some dollars on that step to the next level. The Leup MK4's used to be the stone to the Razor.

I have a TT3-15P I might sell soon; buy a Ferrari and rent a millennial with fake titties. So: scope for a lifetime = rented fake titties for about 3 minutes and 27 seconds...
Life is all about choices, choose wisely.

There’s a secret underground society on the hide where members place bets against one another and list up their optics and whoever’s sells first everyone else has to send nudes of their chicks to. This month it’s Vortex Razors. To get invited to this society you have to send the El Capitan (that’d be me) nudes of your chick.

Next month is swampfox, don’t enter that one unless you want to see some hairy inbred fupas.

I had a prostaff.... it made me give up on magnified optics. I’m trying to make better decisions now.

Yes mate have to have the latest and greatest it seems..... even though all your scopes do all that is needed! It’s bananas the money that’s wasted.

I'm still in step 1 but looking to go straight to step 4 because I've been in other shooting games for a long time and finally learned buy once cry once. Step 4 is really step 5 for me though because I only use Vortex stuff.

Thanks bud

If they are sitting on a shelf, yes. If they are sitting on other rifles, no...

Well, I don’t keep my old scopes just to have them. My problem is that there are always new rifles that need scopes and my budget cannot keep up.

I’ve gone the other way, ran Nightforce, still have a Leupold MK5HD for hunting (weight) and looked through Schmidt, ZCO etc. I sold all my NF, they are nice and there is a slight difference in optical quality and turret click preference but for me it was not worth the extra expense. For the price of an ATACR I can have 2 used Razors.

If I were going into combat in the ‘Stan I would take an AI with a Nightforce on it.

For rifle games and flat ranges the Razor is probably the best value out there, especially used.

Yep, If they aren't on a gun and they are just sitting around they are just collecting dust and at some point wont be worth anything. If they are on guns no harm no foul.
My point was the "stepping stone" it's the cheapest of the "good stuff" Some people buy them and never go any higher thats cool, but some people buy them and see the next level and like said before you can buy a new one for $1500-1800 and usually only loose 200-300 to sell it later if you decide to buy a 2500 + optic. Most scopes below it's level will drop 40-50% in value once used.

I got mine on a liquidation sale from a friend about to go through a divorce lol , its nice but if I had to pay the 2k + for it Id be happier using my delta its everything the razor is and more at 1/2 the cost except that warranty it is really nice .
