About to do a 280 AI build and looking for the wise advise for infor on which one (older 40 vs Sammi) for the least issues.
I already have a 280 Rem that I've been keeping brass for forming.
Which one can I use 280 Rem in a pinch and form easiest with?
Are folks now moving away from older AI to Sammi?
Any info will be of great help!
Thanks Ahead!

I say go Sammi. You can use plain 280 ammo in either in a pinch and fireform either. I'm not a big fan of fireforming brass if I have a really great barrel on a rifle. I would go Sammi and like to have the option of buying ready to load 2 80 AI brass and have published data for what it is worth.

Thanks...
Wouldn't the Sammi version be a tad short in chamber for standard 280 Rem and cause tight bolt closure?
I understood from reading lengthy forums that the Sammi is 14K shorter chamber.

I see now that there is available brass.
Are they now all Sammi sized from manufacturer?

Well then...
Sounds like everyone is on with going with Sammi.
Just wanted to make sure I'd do it right.
Thank Ya'll for the help and quick replies!
Saved me some headache!
Thank You Again!!

Difference between SAAMI and "old" 40° should be none.

"Old" head space measurement is taken from neck/shoulder junction. SAAMI where shoulder is .375 in diameter. Hence the difference in head space. Therefore the go/nogo gauges are different.

In the end it is your gunsmith that calls the shots.

Both Norma and Nosler brass may allso be available.

Peterson offers saami spec 280ai brass. That’s what I would do is chamber for saami

Thank you guys for chiming in to help my decision.
I think I'll go with Sammi since brass is available!
Great place to get great information quickly!
Thanks Again!
