The people over at RFC who've done research on these early rifles are saying they haven't seen a date stamp earlier than '61.

I got out yesterday to shoot some more targets with the Anschutz 54 Super Match pre '58. This time I remembered to take my custom prescription lens off my airgun and shot without a contact in my right eye. I'm always fighting my contact sliding while trying to aim. In all I shot about 6 targets and this represents about the best I'm able to do -- I'm at my limit with irons.

I'm curious what the serial is on yours?

Last time out with the Magnum Research barreled 10/22. 5-6 mph wind with complete reversals. Was able to stay up top of it for all but a few shots. 51 yards

New gun and what is probably the last target for the year with hunting season being here. Just shooting various ammo in it to try to get past the 500 rounds mark before shooting better ammo. Didn’t even go to the range just did some cutting at the house to get 50 yards. Figured I would share a picture of my Hi-tech bench and seat. Really think the gun has a lot of potential.
I want to thank jbell for doing all this for us. It’s been a lot of fun. Got more joy at the range this year with the 22s than I have in a long time.

Groups are from the top 2 and middle bullseyes, the bottom two aiming points (bottom 4 groups) were all shot after the above 6, with a suppressor on which this gun historically results in worse groups.

Guess I can’t give it up yet for the year. Had to try some better ammo in the 16in Tikka. Had one round that was not called or conditions that killed what would have been a pretty good average.

Was sitting here thinking about the stray shot in the target above. I had a FTE in that group that ended up crushing the fired case when I chambered the next round. When I fired the round I thought it went into the group but I guess it went in the line so I could not see it. Completely forgot it happened till I saw some post on reworking the ejector.

Last target for this gun till after season. My RimX barreled action will be in Friday so I will start messing with it. Had about 10 FTE today in the two sets of targets I shot. Guess I will have to get around to working on that. It’s nice shooting at the house with little or no wind instead of my hunting club range that’s basically a field. It nice testing the gun instead of my wind reading. Of course it would love an ammo not made any more. Old Wolf MT 52 yards

Sry for slow reply. I cannot get on here often. The s/n for my 54 Super Match is 19,4xx. It has the bull nose forestock, single extractor and no date stamp. This places it in between your two. The data for the very early ones is sketchy but as far as I know the model 54 began production on or about 1956 with about 5k made each year during those early years. That would put mine in late 58 or early 59 by best guess. Would guess yours to be early 58? It certainly shoots great.

Been meaning to get another score on the board. Recently acquired a Sako Quad Lilja Tactical. This was a limited group of 49 made for Eurooptic with a Lilja bbl and McMillan (I think?) stock and 20moa DIP rail. I only picked it up a few days ago and slapped an old scope on it to give it a try. First range session showed promising results but also a 3LB trigger that was holding it back. I shot it in a fun shoot match that evening but was not able to score up to my usual level and went home looking to do some tuning. I adjusted the trigger down to about 2lb maybe slightly less. I don't like a super light trigger but this one was a bit mushy compared to what I am used to. After adjustment it is acceptable. I also did a thorough bbl cleaning job. It is a used rifle but did not show much wear so it was not that dirty but I wanted to get the bbl totally clean. I added a little step that has been working well with some of my other rifles. You will have to PM me for that one lads (I might tell you and I might not, lol).

2nd range session went much better. Trigger is good. The rifle shot every lot I fed it good except one lot of CX that it did not like. I only tried SK rifle match, three lots of CX and one lot of Eley black. During the lot testing, I shot a pair of 6x5's using two lots of Lapua CX that both shot well. Apologies for the use of a previously used tgt but it was all I had with me and I was just shooting the remaining sighter bulls and the spaces between the used bullseyes of an old ARA tgt. Results:

The other 6x5 averaged 0.242" showing some good consistency. Wind was light and not much of a factor. Still testing lots and I forgot to torque the action screws after removing the action. Mounting a better scope won't hurt either. The recticle on the Mueller is pretty coarse which did affect my aim slightly. Getting that done might help to bring it in a bit more. I don't really intend to use this as a BR rifle. My plan for it is to shoot some more NRL22 type matches, so it will likely end up with a 3-18x or 4-24x FFP optic instead of a 32x tgt dot. I also plan to use the interchangeable bbl feature to convert it into a tricked out hunter rifle. I spoke to Carson Lilja yesterday and he promised to make me a 17 Mach2 bbl this winter in his next production run.

Overall it is starting to shoot up to its name. A friend out our club has a Quad/Lilja also and it shoots better but he had had it for years and has learned most of its secrets. I am really liking the little rifle.

JB - your knowledge of these rifles is impressive. You are correct. It is one of the EuroOptic series of 49 which were built about 2012. Mine is Numba10 which fits my personality to a T. I was very lucky to have found it in such nice condition. Too often those cerakote finishes get scratched and start to look crappy. Do you know if it is indeed a McMillan stock? The camo pattern is molded into the stock but I could not find any identifying marks on it. The only issue with it so far is that the spring in the mag is very light and sometimes with some ammo the last shot wants to hang up and fails to feed. I have a spare mag on order and will test it upon arrival. The stock shape and feel are nearly identical to the Bell & Carlson stock on my centerfire rifle. Am really happy with it.

Okay, I'm on the 100 yd board. I didn't have time for the 200 today. By the looks of it, I probably would have missed the target entirely anyways.

McMillan A5 is what it was. I only figured out that it was one of Jered's builds yesterday. I have been enjoying getting it set up. Ordered another scope for it yesterday also. Am itching for the next time I can take it to the range. That is funny that you were there when he was finishing that series. You may have held this rifle in your hands. I shot a few PRS rimfire events a few years ago using a Savage. I was not prepared for that first one and it was like taking a knife to a gun fight. I showed up with two 5 rd mags not knowing that all of the stages were 15-20rds in 2 minutes. That was an eye opener. Since that time I was toying with conversion of my old Winchester 52 carbine into a PRS rifle but this Sako will be a better tool for that task. We have a few places nearby who are running this kind of event.

Thought I would redo my 100 yard 6x5 now I've had a bit more time with my T1x. Marginal improvement over the last 100 yard 6x5. Think this is as good as i will get until I fit a recoil pad to increase length of pull and a comb riser. I'm sort of holding my head in the air and the rifle not even in my shoulder to shoot it.

I went out to do some more testing with the Quad earlier this week. I decided to bring the Anschutz 54 Super Match along to blow the cobwebs out of the barrel and get some more trigger time with it. Shot a 6x5 at 50y. It was not spectacular due to a gusty cross wind that spoiled a few of the groups. But some of the groups were pretty nice and the bulk of them were uniform and I like that. This was with a random lot of Center X since I have shot up all of my past good lot for this rifle and was just trying one that I had a full brick of. Ave was 0.284" and best was 0.077". I have attached picks of the groups and the rifle. I would call these typical for this rifle.

I shot another 6x5 with the Quad just to try a different lot but it was about the same as the last one and the conditions prevented my doing any better. But, the hunter who had just left the range had left large tgts at 100/150/200y and I wanted to verify my dope at those distances for this rifle/scope combo. While the hunter had hit all of the tgts with 7mm Mag, he had failed to hit any of them in the middle so I had space to send a few down range. I had good dope for another rifle but it was with Wolf which had shot higher than CX in the past. So, I dialed up for 100y and sent one to see where it would go. It drilled the 1/2 inch orange dot in the center. Nice! I fired about 10sh which made a decent group a bit to the right of ctr. I then dialed up to 200y and sent one. It hit about 2" right of the ctr dot. Typical for longer range to see more spin drift, not bad for 1st shot. I held KY windage 1mil left and 0.5mil high and proceeded to put 10 in a tight cluster in the middle. I did not go down range to measure but it looked about 3" or less. That was fun. Was impressed that the optic was clear enough to see the bullet holes that far out. It made calling my shots easier.

Then I wanted to see how repeatable this optic was going to be and dialed it back to 100y and on a different bull shot a 5 sh group. The pic is attached of that group. $ of the shots are touching with one falling low. I did not measure it but with the one flyer looked to be about 1" more or less. The ctr dot is half inch. Dialed it back down to 50y and shot a 5sh group slightly high & to the left and was disappointed until I remembered that I had swapped ammo lots when I started plinking at the long range tgts and when I went back to my original lot and fired another group it was dead on in the 10ring. Liking this little rifle more and more. Need to get out and do more of this kind of shooting as well as some off-hand work.

I want to shoot a 200 yard card next, but wondering what ammo I should use.

I've used RWS Special Match and RWS R100 at 100 yds. RWS100 gives me better results, but it is supersonic ammo so will go subsonic well before 200 yards. Also the name "R100" makes me wonder if it is optimised for 100 yards/100 metres.

Will RWS R100 work out to 200y or should I be thinking about something else? FYI I've tried Lapua Center-X; my rifle doesn't really like it.

Have your tried Eley Match or Team? They might be good choices if your rifle approves...

My V22 likes RWS R-50 for the longer ranges. If you weight sort whatever ammo you use you will have better results.

Here is the 22" Ace Kukri, in a Manners PRS2, with a T7T, and the Razor. It is going to be in a Bravo soon and unfortunately I'll have to replace the trigger because the Tubb doesn't fit the Bravo.

Any reason you are swapping out the Manners for a Bravo? I just built my Vudoo with the Bravo and so far havent been a huge fan and was looking at other to upgrade to with the Manners being one of the options.

This is my first rifle of this quality. So take all of this for what its worth(not a whole lot). But I just dont get a good comfortable feeling on it. Maybe this is more my fault(may just need more time working on my form) and not really a issue with the chassis. Im not sure. I also have been having a issue with the fitment of the magazine causing some feeding issues while shooting. I am trying a couple of things that I will get to test this weekend to see if it eliminates those issues.

I haven't given up on it just always looking at the other options out there.

Oh yeah and lets not ignore the fact that the carbon with no paint just looks down right sexy.

Thanks JB. I shot the Quad in our club's Thursday nite cut-throat 50y BR fun shot for sporter rifles last night. We shooting against several Annie 54/64's a few killer Win 52C's and a collection of other high end rifles. At least four of the competitors are past national BR champs and/or current top 20 ranked shooters. Makes it hard to win no matter what you brung to shoot

Happy to report that the little quad won the first match scoring a 247/16x. I swapped it for my Ugly Girl Win 52B and managed a 2nd place by the skin of my teeth. Scores were 248/12x, 246/15x (Me), 246/14x, 246/13x, 246/13x, all in our usual crazy winds for this time of year. I don't recall the scores after that. Ugly Girl is one of the best shooting rifles I have ever had my hands on. I thought it had shot a 248 but a pair of shots were out by a hairs breadth. Considering how bad the wind was, I was happy with that.

Next week is unlimited nite and I can bring the Annie or my ARA rifle to the party to play. We are planning to shoot an ARA unlimited card and maybe a BP150 card. Both are humbling for any shooter. These matches are open to all if any of you denizens of the Hide are near Ashland, KY, PM me for directions and details.
