300 Win Mag too much for Buckmaster 2?

Hey there! I just bought a Bergara B-14 300 Win Mag and put a Nikon Buckmaster 2 4-12x40 scope on it and have tried sighting it in twice now and the bullet jumps all over the place without me adjusting the knobs. I know my mount and rings are to spec so any help would be greatly appreciated. I can’t find anywhere that says if the nikon is suitable for such a big round

The scope (or mounts) should not move under recoil. Are you sure the impact shift is the equip and no the shooter? Is this a scope you just bought that you might be able to return?

The scope and mounts do not move. They are all torqued to manufacturers specs. I was shooting it in a lead sled to remove shooter error and it kept jumping in any random direction. Sadly I bought it at the beginning of the year and can’t find the receipt.

Try another scope? And Get it out of the lead sled.

I would say to get out of the lead sled first ;)

Lead sleds are bad to begin with, but with magnum class rounds, they beat the crap out of the rifle and associated mounted devices.

If the scope is shifting in its mount ever so slightly, it tends to cause vertical stringing in the POI. Since you said the bullet was jumping all over the place, and you mentioned that mount and rings were torqued to spec, we can probably rule those out.

Assuming this is not your first rodeo, let's throw out all the obviously "noob" mistakes.
That leaves 2 likely causes:
1) Shooter needs to manage 300WM recoil better
or
2) Scope is screwed and reticle is jumping all over the place

I agree with posts above. Throw out the lead sled. I have a 9.5lb unbraked 300WM. The first time I shot it, my shots were all over the place, till I learned proper fundamentals and manage recoil better and more consistently. Get a good front and rear shooting bag, get into a good shooting position, manage your recoil consistently and see if it gets better.

Okay I will do that. I’m probably gonna take the scope and mounts off and reinstall them and retorque and then I’ll shoot off bags

Lead sled breaks lesser scopes.
Lead sleds are good cleaning stands.
You can't necessarily see the scope or rings move.
Unless you know you can manage magnum recoil, you likely can't.
When you say the bullet jumps around, what do you mean by that exactly?
