Looking for input. Need to pick up a new pair of Binos police work/surveillance. This time of year my LRF is in my hunting pack not my work kit. These look priced right and a hide vendor.

Fuck!

Ive been thinking I want "a little bit more magnification" and the sharpness of a center wheel focus to upgrade just a bit from my Steiner 8x30Rs.

Knowing there is a sale and these have been "Non Poor Verified" I may have to see what @gr8fuldoug is hawking them for.

OP - the 8x32Mil Rs are a bomb proof option also - great size, excellent hand holding ability, very fast scan type viewing due to the "sport focus" feature - only down side is when you find that "thing" you want to focus on you may not get complete "sharpness" unless you dick with the ocular focus.

Wish I had of bought the set of 10s @Bigfatcock was PXing 6 or so months ago.

Amazing set of binos. Worth every Penny, and buy whenever available!

Might be this one.

That looks ok after putting 4D pads in it. Thing is, do you actually need a ballistic helmet? Hell, I didnt even wear a ballistic.

But if you have zero helmet and have nightvision, well, you need some sort of helmet. If you have a helmet, I'd say stick with the helmet you have unless its not meant for a NV shroud.

Also depends what your plan and use is. Mostly daytime? Binos. Mostly night? Helmet. Otherwise...get both.

Leupold BX-2 10x42 Tactical is great too. I used to use the little Vortex Viper 8x28 R/T with Mil Scale and sils for ranging, but they discontinued them for some reason. I bought at least 4 pairs of them, and dudes would buy them off me. I figured I could just get another pair, but then they were gone. Could only find these next:

No night vision. Helmet is for riding around in the trunk, in a glass case marked "In case of Emergency".

I prefer cowboy hats.

Binos....mostly beach and family vacation. I'd retire a set of my 8x30 to kitchen drawer hawk watchers.

Can anyone compare the Steiner, Leupold BX, and the SWFA binos?

Didn’t know Steiner had one until this thread, and that price is interesting.

I've been running that model (in the original post) of Steiners for a while.

I find them to be extremely useful and haven't found a superior replacement for scanning and spotting, hiking or matches.

Highly recommended.

Very useful, very versatile optic.

I've got my eyes on these as well as the m1050r model (should have better glass, but you know, steiner marketing sucks, so who knows). How are they for gauging mil corrections at matches? I use a pair of 15x56 Cronuses right now, but am thinking of upgrading eventually, or just adding another pair like the steiners on the tripod.

I have been using a set of 12x Nikon Monarchs for ever. 3 LE sniper schools used them as a bipod a few times more than I should have and they have done everything I ask of them. Need Binos with a reticle 8-12x and 15-18x for matches. These are 1st on the list because they are for work. I have a 1-4 Steiner on a gas gun and it punches way above its price point.

Is the glass in the T1042s the same as the T1042Rs?

I’ve been looking at the T1042s and after a hiccup with Steiner’s Online Store I now have a 30% off coupon. Looks like I could get them for $350 if they ever come back in stock

If you were to be particular, you might feel they're a little coarse.

I run them off a bagged tripod, and they are easy to adjust to get measurement between the target and point of impact.

I get more concrete information out of them over any other optic that I've used...

But that might be user error with some of the more clear, higher power spotters out there with reticles. I'm not as quick to adjust hard-mounted optics (tripod-mounted spotters), and the narrower field results in me struggling to find things.

Don't know about the 1042 glass, but the T1042R glass is very good. I like fixed mag and the reticle is the same that is in my Steiner 4-16 Military (the original models when they came out on market back in 2012 or so). Great binoculars.

Yeah, even looking through some swaro spotters with reticles at matches, I think I'd rather go with binos with a reticle. I might pick up a pair in the next few months and see how their clarity looks next to my cronuses. Thanks for you input. I freaking love how much first hand experience there is on the hide.
