Looking for a good recommend.

I do really like the state I live in, however it probably has the worst drivers in the US.

Im used to my car always being indoors when it’s not moving, at work, at home, always garaged. However with my new location it spends a decent amount of time outside, I park away from EVERYONE and use a cover.
Cool cool

Well someone SOMEHOW but a golf ball sized dent in the top b pillar, $600 later and the car is back to proper Bristol fashion.

What I’m looking for is some type of game camera I can put in the tree next to where I lark, so if this happens again, which I hope isn’t the case, I can get whatever slob who hit it to pay for it.

there is WiFi access where the car is, so if I could use that for remote viewing that would rock, AC power access...not so much.

There are several game cameras on the market that utilize 4G networks and you pay a low monthly service fee (similar to a cell phone but a fraction of the price) and they will send you live pictures/videos.

I feel your pain. I try to keep my new truck as “new” as possible but somehow always find myself saying “ This is why I can’t have nice things”. Seems the more I try to keep something in prestige condition the more apt it is to get F’d up.

I used to drive a nice Mercedes. Id park in the far corner of the lot. When Id come out Id be surrounded, half the time with a dent or scratch. Bought a Buick, no problimo.

Any that use WiFi? It’s close enough to my WiFi that I can get on with my iPhone, no sense in paying for a GSM subscription if I have WiFi access no?

You'd have a really hard time getting someone to pay for it anyway, even if they were on camera. Even if you take them to court and win, will you actually get to collect? And how much time/aggravation was exchanged for that $600? It's just not worth it.

It's bullshit, but it is what it is. Consider it part of the cost of ownership for a nice car.

I don't regret my decision to buy a beat up 2012 Yaris in the least. It's a little four banger roller skate you'd normally associate with middle aged lesbians and environmentalist hippies that couldn't make the down payment for a prius...

It's dead nuts reliable though. Tires run about $70 a pop and I get about 40mpg. I can also leave it running in the hood with the door wide open without worrying because nobody wants to steal a shitbox like that.

Once you get over looking like a pole smoker it's actually amazing. I'll always have a little shitbox from now on.

This is precisely why I drive this:

Yep, google ‘WiFi game camera’ and you can find one that fits your needs/budget/range

I don’t have any experience with one of those personally to recommend but they do exist

Don't worry someone wanted to be sure my truck got dented.....twice, in the same spot 1" apart.....It's so obvious right along the lower section of the bed. UUUGHHHH

I hear ya,

Thankfully the place where the car is outside is a gated area, everyone’s insurance is on file and management is not tolerant of hoodlum behavior, I’d imagine if one way or another you managed to not pay for damage, they’d just revoke your gate access.

I get the beater car thing too, but it reminds me of a friend of mine doing the “fire” thing. Basically he works his ass off, makes good money, squirrels nesrly it all away into modest investment instruments, lives cheap, cheap car, doesn’t go out to eat much, outside of working out doesn’t really have fun hobbies, all to retire early, not work, and still live cheap but just sitting at home. I opined that seems like a ton of work to live like someone on well fair.
Same with the car, I love my work, so I can’t really say I’m grinding my nose off to have nice things, but I pay good money for nice stuff, I don’t want to lower my quality of life because others weren’t raised right.

So, figure the game cam is better than nothing, and being a gated controlled access area, I give myself 80% I can be made whole if some road urchin dents my car as long as I have proof of who.

Buy a beater, save the nice ride for weekends and trips. I’m sure everyone can relate. I just started having to drive into town again everyday after working from home the better part of 10 years. About 3 years ago I bought a new ride and well I’ve put more miles on it in 3 weeks than I have in 3 years. And it bugs the shit out of me because having to take the interstate I do in everyday is known for taking its toll on cars. I hope to buy a cheap beater soon. Or I may swap with my wife since hers is older. I’ve got an old F250 I coukd drive in everyday but it really sucks on gas and it’s about 52 miles in each way.

I didn’t have good luck with my wifi capable trail camera. It never wanted to connect to the app. I switched to a browning cell camera and it works like a champ. No wifi though, the range on the other camera wifi was like 200 feet or something.

When my 16 year drives, there is a whistler dash cam in there, it has motion activated recording you can set up. It has two cameras you can move to see two different angles and record them.

Guess what? You have little control over that and that is exactly what is happening.

I stopped buying new cars a long long time ago for many reasons. Other people being shitwad dickbags and damaging my properly was high up on the list. I still get annoyed but don't care as much if someone dents my 15 year old car.

You can't drive a nice car every day, its just not possible in 3rd world America where no one gives a shit about anything other than themselves

104mi a day? Damn!

I average under 500mi a month, and for the most part stay off the crazy interstates unless it’s the back side of the clock.

The other thought is, if you’re spending that much time in a car, shouldn’t it be a good one?

Do you have a link to the browning?

Cells is fine too, just figured I also have a strong WiFi signal by the car, but whatever does the job :)

Right now I’m on the “scout” plan which includes 1200 photos only and it is 10 bucks a month I think. They have the ability to get video and many more pics with different subscriptions. I’ll see if I can pull up the price list and link it here as well. Never ran batteries out so not sure on full life span. They do make a solar adapter for it as well.

This is one of the reasons why I have a tire thumper in the driver's door pocket.

The damage it does when swung properly is all out of proportion to its size.

following.....and i am going to laugh my ass off when they dent your car, and steal your camera.

fucktards are going to fucktard, and the only solution is to avoid them. and if you figure out how to do that, lmk.

Gotta fight the good fight

Besides with my work schedule I am blessed with a good amount of free time, and I enjoy...a good game

I think it was on Top Gear where they said "Yaris" is Greek for "Disappointment".

That was my initial impression as well. My fondness for the uniwiper came gradually. First, when I got it insured, quite a bit more when I filled up the tank and it was cemented the first time I changed the tires. I change my own belts, brakes etc., so I haven't done any other maintenance.

I drove a supercharged '99 cobra pre-kids. This was about 12 years ago. I miss it, but the thrill of filling my tank for $18 has been an acceptable substitution for the thrill of going fast. Shit... my wife got a prime brisket on sale for $35 last week and I was so excited I squealed like a giddy school girl. With $15k in dental bills just over the horizon for the little ones, I'm all 'bout that coupon life now.

Less gas = more ammo. Happy wife, happy life and all that bullshit.

That’s a different language than I speak, but it does reminds me of when a dog gets old and no longer enjoys his food or playing, just lays by the fire appearing content with existing, every once in a while you call his name “hey Fido!” Just to make sure he’s still alive.

Driving those little shit boxes is a good way to die when someone runs into you.

F that.

All those glued together electric hybrid POSs are in that category too.

With the electrics it’s more what happens when those batteries get hit

Also it’s interesting, people who think of fast as what happens when you mash the gas pedal in a straight line, they like electric.

Those who are just as interested in 60-0 and care as much, if not more, about skid pad numbers, well most of the electric cars are very lacking in the corners and braking department

Haha. That's exactly what it's like. No more 48hr partying, bar skanks or brawling for me. On the rare occasion I get hammered, I pay for it over the next two days. I'm not knocking it though. Now I find enjoyment in absurd places. There are few things I enjoy more than mowing the lawn. I could mow for hours... it's fucking ridiculous. I'm 35. I even rock gas station sunglasses nowadays.

Four kids, three with jacked up grills. That's around $5k a piece for braces. The oldest just got spacers and the braces go one in a month or two.

I drive about 120 miles a day for my commute. I bought a brand new 2016 hyundai accent hatchback, and I'm already at 135.000 miles. I'd hate to have that many miles on a $30,000 car. It might not be fancy, but the only repairs I've done to the hyundai is replace the battery and a burned out headlight.

"Golf ball sized dent"? Got a driving range in close proximity to your parking area?

Lol, no, I actually think since it’s a smaller vehicle, someone hit it loading something into a truck, at least that's the best sense I could make based on where it was and all.

A really bad environment for door dings and rash is kids sports events. Never enough parking and Karen the soccer mom with 3 kids is always late and will stuff her Escalade into a spot all cockeyed with all the doors flying open with reckless abandon so Timmy can go get his ass kicked at whatever sport she signed him up for. Ding City.

I keep the nice stuff inside and drive them in good weather, long trips, or when I’m pretty sure I can park in a safe spot. The rest of the time its the old Dodge pickup that gets the nod for running errands, sporting events, hauling firewood, etc... It comes complete with body rust, hail damage, faded paint, and a really tired 318. Go ahead ding me or hit me.
