I have everything on the way to finish my first rifle except rings. I was originally going to get as low as I could and go on with it. But I’ve noticed some people running higher rings. Is there a benefit to this in how you can position yourself on a rifle? Or is it more like getting a concealed carry holster where you go through a box full until you find the one that fits you just right?

It's both. I started low, and then saw the light and went higher.

Do you wear glasses? Definitely higher.

Benefits of higher rings:
  1. Easier to get your head more vertical. Your whole Mark I Eyeball apparatus is designed to work best with your head vertical.
  2. With glasses: if your head is more vertical, easier to see through the optical center of your glasses
Cons of higher rings:
  1. Way less hip. Way.
  2. Less cheek weld, unless you have adjustable cheek piece.
From what I understand, there are some very slight cons when you raise your scope up 5-10mm in terms of physical offset at extreme close range (ie, 25 yards and closer).

Here's where I got that from: https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...lose-to-bore-as-possible.444323/#post-5547284

The biggest difference is the influence of the physical offset at extreme close range (ie, 25 yards and closer).

Getting a stable, solid, and comfortable cheek weld is more important to good marksmanship than minor ballistic differences.

I don't know if the post above is correct, but there it is.

Easier to deal with rings that are too high than too low, IMO.

Higher rings help you bring the rifle closer to your centerline for best recoil management techniques. Keeps your head erect.

to me 1.18/1.26 is low

anything above that is high or for a full rail (AXMC) platform
