How do Attach My Head to a FLIR Breach?

I'm thinking of getting a FLIR Breach PTQ136. I'll bet someone can answer this question for me: what's the best way to fasten this thing to your head without a helmet? Any particular products to recommend?

Just hold it with your hand. No trauma needed

So there is no particular cap everyone agrees is wonderful and fairly priced. You just make your best guess and accept what UPS brings.

It looks like a lot of people like the Crye Night Cap, but then I have to figure out what else is needed. I see people recommending the Wilcox 3-hole shroud and something called a Rhino 2.

Is there anything out there I should consider instead of a Breach, for similar money? I don't really see myself going out and shooting at the political opposition. I am thinking thermal would be good for hunting and home security.

Nightcap is awesome. The nightcap is your "helmet."

Then you need a "shroud" the plate everything clips to. That bolts to the helmet (or equivalent). Shrouds are mostly the same as long as decent quality IME.

The "mount" is the arm that attaches to the shroud, and to which night vision or adapters mount. Rhino is a Norotos name, they are fine. There are many better ones or different features like length, auto-release (to not break your neck, but for parachute operations mostly), how flat it folds, locking vs detent, etc.

Then... options. You need a J-Arm to get the mount interface off to the side where the TIC is, in front of your eye. OR you can plan ahead for realizing you want a NOD on the other eye, so need a bridge, to mount two items, one in front of each eye. Some like the Wilcox bridge are modular so you can buy just the center, one side, the PTQ arm (as a kit no less!) and then later get the other bits. I like these also because they support flip to side (rotate up out of line of sight without flipping the whole thing way up on top of your head).

And, the end of the mount to the arm or bridge will take a "horn" or a "dovetail" adapter. Dovetails are generally better, but not universal. Make sure you get compatible bits.

There's no one answer. Ideally, you'd have friends and try their stuff to see and just get a baseline. MAY be good to go "cheap." Get a $20 surplus Rhino off eBay, whatever PTQ J-arm fits that horn mount, try it for a while and see if it annoys you. Get better stuff once you know the basics. Keep the old setup as a backup or sell it for probably what you paid.

Dont do it.

Fuck FLIR and fuck that overhyped circle jerk Breach unit dumpsterfire.

You can search for all the long winded discussions as to why it fucking sucks outside of the fact that FLIR are a bunch of scope creep limp wristed faggots.

Go by a slightly used PAS23 or something.

I don't really see myself buying an $11,500 monocular, even with a little discount.

I read up on FLIR's attitude toward consumers. So what are the alternatives in the same general price range? I'd like something I can use to spot critters at night. Doesn't have to let me count their toes at 600 yards, but I would like to be able to pick up things like coons and coyotes up to maybe 300. Anything that connects to an external battery would be preferred.

The Night Cap arrived. The straps came fully extended. Even so, it was very tight on my head, and the chin part was on the side of my face. This was after opening the velcro things all the way. It looks like it's seriously defective. I have another one coming tomorrow.

Tell us how you really feel :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I run a counter balance with the Crye Nightcap. I usually don't use the chinstraps with my 14 because it balances out nicely but if I am going to run around through the woods scaring raccoons then I secure the cap.

The new Night Cap arrived. Fits perfectly. I look like I'm wearing G.I. Joe's jockstrap on my head, but it fits.

I'm amazed at how incredibly defective the first one was.

Glad it works for you. I love mine! I still remember patrolling and having to wear the "skull crusher" all night long! The night cap is soooooooooo much better!
