Just curious guys. I am trying to take a quick poll. How many of you are going to have to significantly limit your match calendar because you are short on supplies? I kind of have enough, bit can’t practice much.

The only things I'll be short on this season is time and money.

The cost of match fees, and all the associated lodging and travel expenses have taken a toll on my finances the last few years. 2020 having a huge amount of matches getting cancelled was almost a relief for me, as the desire to shoot many of the matches was taken away to a certain degree.

Before last year, I had already resigned myself from shooting any more PRS/NRL matches unless there was a certain guarantee it would be a 99% field style match. I'm done with the circus and drama.

There are a handful of matches I want to shoot this year. One I'm already paid for, as it was cancelled last year, and told the match director to hold my money for this year. The others will again depend on time and money.

I have enough components to shoot another two years worth of matches at a reduced number.

Since I don't reload for pistol, and was caught short on my typical on hand inventory of 9mm, that will be my only limiting factor, as I really enjoy, and mostly prefer team matches that incorporate carbine, rifle, and pistol.

Yeah, I am the same way. A bit more dry fire and less time at the range practicing. But I can tell you that the constant hunt for supplies is taking the fun out of my hobby. I already have a career, but constantly looking for supplies makes me feel like I have a second job.

Got enough to get through this year, if anything I will shoot less so my kid can shoot more. I don’t think we will see any primers till 2022 that’s gonna suck for lots of people and all shooting sports.

I have 1200 rounds of 6.5 Berger ammo and I'm not shooting at all unless its a match.

I have 700 rounds of Hornady Super performance, but after seeing it sell on Gunbroker for 4 bucks a round, I'm tempted to turn that into a rifle!

My vudoo has been getting lots of excercise lately, next time ammo gets abundant I'll be selling my 401 k and buying ammo.

Double the number of matches I shot last year. 15 is my target this year.

I've had 4 years to prepare for this. No sympathy for those that didn't.
If things don’t get better by the end of this season, you will likely see greatly reduced attendance, cancelled matches, or you just may be shooting alone.

2020 was going to be the year I started competing. Close to finishing my EE degree, actually having some real cash to throw into the sport. That hasn't gone so well. Got plenty to consistently get out and shoot for a long time and keep my fundamentals but not if I start burning through it competing.

So long as I can find bullets I've got enough of everything else to shoot just as much in 2021 as I did in 2020...

Practice will burn up more than matches typically. And a match counts as both.

The bigger issues I think will be overall participation in matches due to lack of components for those that didn't stock up, and or lack of ammo from those that don't reload. And MD's being able to get people there and shooting in matches week after week, month after month, whatever. An MD isn't going to hold a match for 8 people. I know there's a number for rounds fired for a match COF to be eligible for PRS scoring and such, I don't know what that number is or if there is one for number of shooters to be an official match.

yeah, what mdof2 said. i'd sure hate matches (prs, uspsa, 3 gun, etc) to be cancelled or scaled back because folks are staying home to preserve ammo or b/c they're already out.

If they (PRS/NRL) were smart, they would reformat the matches to less targets, less rounds fired, one shot per target, or first hit and move on to next target, etc. Go back to the roots of the game where precision was more important than launching a multitude of rounds as quick as you can at a large target. This burning 200+ rounds in a weekend will scare off quite a few that were caught short or unprepared.

That's a great idea. You should start your own series and follow that format.
The *most* I've ever shot in a weekend (single day) match is 120 rds. Nearly every other was 90 to 100.

Lol... You aren't going to have any matches to shoot before long because directors won't be setting them up for five Shooters.

I plan on shooting local matches, and keeping nthe money localish this year. I'm not traveling to shoot.

Completely agree. That was my point earlier. I don't think it will be long before that problem comes front and center.

The problem will be front and center soon. Running a match is a tremendous amount of work. How long before they just don’t feel like it is worth it? I have a feeling that one day matches will be the new norm if supplies don’t become available soon. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I love turning two day matches into a mini vacation.

Hell was looking for powder the other day found a sight that has everything from H4350 to pistol primers Everything was called northern gun something I'll find the name again... so was going to order and as you put order in said No Shipping To Americans...was a sight from a shop out of canada...now that's some Bull Shit

They don't want to deal with across the border hazmat, and buearcratic hoops just to sell you 1K or 5K primers. It's not worth their time and effort.

I increased my matches this year. I have enough components for probably two seasons and even enough for my wife to shoot a few club matches here and there. Didn’t prepare that far advance just got a couple lucky breaks recently. Going in on bulk bullets, catching powder in stock, and getting primers at finale. I’m set

Don't know who your sources are but F-Class buddies I've spoken to in Canada and Australia both say components are tight, just as in the states. I mention Australia as that's where a shitton of Hodgdon powders are made and imported from. Particularly H4350 and Varget.

Plan on shooting just as much, if not more this year. Have everything I need to get me a lot of practice rounds as well as all the matches I shot last year. I’ll slowly be adding more components through out the year as I see them become available and start getting stocked up for 2022 but this year I’ll be fine.

Funny cause that’s the total opposite of what I’ve seen. Everybody in Canada has no issues getting powder or primers. Same with the Aussies.
