Deep in the woods
Looking at the arms Unlimited PSG-1 that they have listed. They say that 100 will be imported but it has the thumbhole stock. Can this be modified back to the palm test and adjustable stock version? I realize it’s not the end all be all in rifles these days but I am a HK collector. I have missed out on a few gunbroker ones just barely. Always seeming just a little out of reach. I have contacted Arms Unlimited and all they tell is what is on the website is all that they know. They are not taking deposits and just enter your email for notification. Do any of you guys have any more information? I used the search function and did find a guy selling one for 35k but that’s more than I want to spend. Thanks

That doesnt look like a PSG, more like a MSG. The PSG gad a very unique bolt head with very specific rollers , plus the psg trigger group and stock you wont be able to find. Proceed with caution i would say.

Yeah. The stock, trigger group and grip all come up regularly on gunbroker. Or at least they use to. But the fact that they don’t really answer details bothers me since there aren’t any real details on the site. That’s why I wanted to get some opinions here. Thanks for the insight.

While I am not a big HK guy, Just know how they go together, it should be as simple as unpinning the stock, not sure how HK pistol grips afiix on the older steel trigger modules.

If you are a HK fan, I say go for it if you can swing it, considering that there are alot of good HK smiths out there, I am sure it would not be too big of an issue to make clone correct.

Hi,

Well this snippet from Arms Unlimited provides the exact answer to the OP question of "changing out stock"...

BUT BUT BUT

That same statement tells me why NOT to buy one at all...

NOT warrantied by HK USA means just that...no warranty but that also potentially means no service, no repair work and MORE importantly no liability insurance policy from a Manufacturer should something ever go wrong.

Also...Hecker & Koch International (HKI) does not have a charter to operate in the USA..that is what subsidiary H&K USA is for.

So HKI is not in the USA to be able to handle the importation...they can handle the exportation from Germany but it takes a USA based company to handle the importation.

So whomever is the actual importer will be engraving their name and information onto the rifle and hopefully paying the import/excise tax instead of the end user getting that bill from US Customs a few months later, lol.

HARD PASS from me!!

Sincerely,
Theis

Thanks for the information. That isn’t a deal breaker for me because it’s not like when you buy a vintage rifle they will repair it anyway. I missed that part about the stock thanks for that. I will just have to wait and see if they come in and what parts will be available. I missed out on a nice one on gunrboker last year for 27k. I bid up to 24k but there obviously are a lot of people interested in these older rifles. There is one in GB now for 25k but now GB charges tax even on private sales so it’s up to 26k plus. Ideally I would like get into one of these for less than 20k but we shall see. Appreciate the input very much

Hi,

Good Luck, lol....no way I would pay that 14k with a big ass "Arms Unlimited" engraved down the side of it...or whomever the actual importer is.

There has to be a pretty good reason that HK USA is not handling this transaction and being in the industry and international firearms industry for decades....that is a huge red flag for me personally.

Sincerely,
Theis

Yeah. I get what you are saying and will take it under advisement for sure. Would be nice to get quality photos of what you are buying. I don’t mind import marks but would avoid them if possible. I would think these are older firearms being repackaged for US sake because there is demand. It is my understanding that HK no longer manufactures these. Would HK get involved in importing vintage firearms?

Good info,

In your opinion what do you think this is? Maybe a euro LE parts kit that was cut up and rebuilt on a Pakistani receiver or something like that?

If it’s not a genuine PSG-1, I wouldn’t want it. If it’s just a high priced clone, then I would be out. I don’t mind importing one with tasteful import marks and switching out some parts but I don’t want a clone. There’s an Urbach clone up on gunbroker for 15k+ and I passed on one of those for 10k a few years ago. The market for these is about 25k for good examples. I was hoping to get into one of these for 20k or less. Probably a pipe dream at this point.

Hi,

Any company that cares about their brand should absolutely be involved. Look at what happened to Caracal when they were importing through a 3rd party into the USA and had the pistol recall....It damn near shut the company down and the reason why Caracal USA was birthed.....HK already has a USA subsidiary so......

Sincerely,
Theis

Hi,

There is no way of knowing that until someone actually has one in their hands. But it "could" be all kinds of situations.

Well. I don’t want to be a guinea pig at this point. I will have to wait until we have some in hand examples so I know what I am buying. Not ruling it out but this thread has made more a bit skeptical and I am a cautious person. Maybe someone would sell me theirs for 20k :).

Well I didn’t buy the Arms Unlimited PSG1. I bought a mint one for a whole lot more money. Couldn’t resist. Paid a lot more than I wanted but at least I checked that box off. It hasn’t been fired outside the factory so the hard part will be wanting to fire it once I receive the rifle. Thanks for the help

Congrats.

Kind of weird not wanting to shoot it.

Well let me rephrase that. It will be hard to not shoot it once I get it because it hasn’t been shot outside the factory but I will shoot it. I just don’t think I will be able to resist honestly. I don’t plan on ever selling it so whatever value is left after I die is on my heirs. I will post pics of if once I get it.

That first shot is the expensive one! But PSG’s are pretty good investments once you have in hand. “I’ll never pay $10k for a used HK” comes to mind back 20 years or so ago.

Remember that whatever a dealer is selling for, spending time to ask around for private sellers pays off big time. Definitely do your transfer through an FFL, but buy the rifle private sale. The pittance you will pay to the ffl is worth the protection for you and the seller.

The best deals are always private sales without dealer markup then handle the paperwork for the transfer.

I didn’t buy from a dealer. I bought from a private seller. But I can’t say that I got a deal though. I paid more than what I wanted because it was so nice. It is being shipped through my FFL. Hopefully it will be here in a few weeks. I didn’t buy it as an investment but an emotional one. Been wanting one for 20 years. Thanks for the input!

In these kinds of situations, I think there are a few possible ways you could win:

1) you get the item you want
2) you get the price you want

If those two are in conflict, you get to decide which one you value more. You really win if you get the item you want at the price you want.

You only really lose if you decide to buy something you don’t want (cf. Arms Unlimited rifle) at a higher price than you want to pay.

I imagine that your family still gets to live inside and eat food, so it sounds like you won.

Please please please give us a thorough review when you get it!

I will once I get it if people are interested for sure.
You should Definitely do so.

While I am not the biggest HK fan, I would love to see how some of these fare objectively against modern systems. The thing that I can appreciate about HK is that there was a 30 to 40 year period after WWII where they put a lot of good stuff based off the 9 Series, and for its times, they really were ahead of the curve, at least in regards to Services rifles and Subguns.

Hell, I would love to see how one of the newer Hungarian Dragonovs actually preform when fed good ammo.

I am on the list but haven’t heard a word on it. Just got my rifle and I am waiting on the kit to get here. My seller shipped the rifle in a pelican case and the aluminum case and it’s accessories is being shipped separately.

Yes please.

I remember drooling over that thing as a kid.

I also remember when they were 10k and I flatly couldn't afford one.

Now I just covet one of them, so please post pics of the entire pile of HK goodness.

When I get the entire pile I will post those up. I have wanted one since the 90s. I wish I would have bought one sooner but priorities and wanting to be prudent with my money made that decision for me. Over the years I have passed on a few that I wish I would have gotten. This one will be missing the charger for the scope and the cleaning cord. Otherwise it will be complete. I don’t think I will be able to track either of those down either. But the rifle itself is perfect.

I get it man 👍.

Very much looking forward to it.

I love those things.
