Otherwise stay keen on GB and don't go over your limit. It'll happen. Just got a NIB 16 for $3200 (they've been going for upwards of $4k last few months, may not make anymore) and a 20 for $3400 last summer when they were rare but not impossible to find.
IMO these Viper camo jobs were a way for FN to get rid of bad anodize jobs on black production rifles but I can't prove it. But it would mean the lines are running 17's currently if I'm right. Also I'm told Proven and FN will not accept back orders for items they're not sure will come through. For instance, no backorders on 16's.
I feel 'ya though, these are solid rifles.

90% of the 17s that show up on GB are the Viper Camo ones...
Question.....are those US made Viper Camo versions necessarily ‘bad’? I can always put some Krylon on there if needed.

Anodizing is the hard wear coat on the soft metal receiver. I would want one with a good coat on the metal.
You can have the receiver re anodized but that would be a major PITA.
