I have a Remington 40X repeater in 308. It shoots really well but I also have a 3 .308s and the LOP is about 2-2.5" too short.

It's in great shape other than someone dinged the edge of the barrel over the years.

Long story short, I keep milling over rebarreling it to another caliber and adding another stock.

I can't find much on the value of a 308 Rangemaster that means a lot the opinions very wildly.

Would you rebuild it and just keep all the OEM parts, or leave it alone. I hate it just sits in the safe.

Y'all a-holes acting like I have money or something 😂.

I thought about a M40 build or just toss on a 6br barrel.

An M40A5 clone in 6GT... ~25" 1:7 barrel, McMillan stock, S&B scope... just like the original, but better.

    Launch 115gr DTAC's @ ~2800fps, and enjoy.
I'd need a sponsor for that build, but I like it.

Remage it. Save the original lug and barrel so you can put it back on if you want at a later point.

But if you want a 6 br then make it one! 700 bucks shipped and you can have a new barrel, plus all the tools to do it.

    300+75 for a threaded barrel
27+28 for a lug and nut
60+18+25 for an action wrench, nut wrench and lug aligner
    ~30 for a go gauge
All that can be had at Northland SS

70 for a viper barrel vice

Not sure about feeding from the bdl but I do know that I have seen one do it so maybe there is a different mag box and follower out there thats an easy swap if it doesnt feed as it is now.

Also, possibly issues with primer cratering if the bolt has a firing pin larger than the .062 ish thats recommended. Maybe have 100 bucks pocketed in case of that. The short br with small primer is sort of a niche chambering, might take some massaging to make it run like your 308 did but tis not impossible.

feeding issues were supposedly solved with the 6GT.
I have no experience with it, just what the internet gods have told us.

Or even better go 6xc and don’t worry about bushing the bolt or finding 450s. Or go 6 Comp Match and get to use your 308 brass and get over 3000 rounds of barrel life.
