My Seiko beater , a model SRPO43K1 aka The Spork ! Crazy Lume , doesn’t hack nor keep time so good. Has a following , reckon cause it favors a German Sinn.

My latest acquisition... U1 tegimented, submarine steel. Orange highlights. One of 100 or so made for a dealer in Singapore. Wanted a Sinn or Bell and Ross forever, but never found the perfect one. This is the perfect one!

Cheers, Sirhr

That crystal is domed right? As opposed to a standard U1 which is flat. Show us that cool dome effect. Can you read it from all angles under water?

Man, It would appear that I'm one of the poors. All I have are entry level automatic Seikos & Orients . Turtle, Samurai, Poseidon, ect......

Those are good watches.

I like collecting watches, and just watches in general.

Hell, I still have a working pac-man watch i got for xmas back in the 80s :) And an original star wars watch from the late 70s (i think) or there-abouts. Aint worth much but as time goes by (pun intended) less and less of them laying around. Esp with the smart watch craze...

If its fun for you then fk it.

Cool. Anza knives (here in San Diego) used to offer an entire line of knives made from old files....

It’s one of these two Christopher Ward Tridents each day for me. The Trident Pro is automatic but the blue Trident is hand wound. Wear a range master for dirty work though.

I have an older Chris Ward (CHWard instead of Christopher Ward) C7 Rapide MkII chronograph on a leather deployant. Love that watch! Needs a battery though.
EDIT: $13.00 and it’s back up and running!

Hi mike. Sorry, I lost track of this thread.

Crystal is flat. Not tried this one under water. I buy dive watches because they hold up on all weather (including winter and monsoon) motorcycle trips. But I will test next pool trip and let you know!

It is one of my favorite wristwatches! So simple, yet so many cool details!

When you are ready to go big time this is how you roll. I've lost count on battery replacements, but this exquisite Timex Ironman time piece is top of the line and dates back to the late 90's. Notice the zip tie I put in place about 10 years ago when factory plastic dried out and broke off? Was doing some quick math have swum about 7k miles with this watch and it still won't die. Now b/f all you watch mavens start blowing up my inbox..... NO IT IS NOT FOR the SALES!!!!

I have a Tissot I bought in Dubai about 20 years ago. One of my troops (silverspoon kid) bought a Patek Phillip on that day. I think mine was $200, but it is not a time piece it is a watch, it eats a battery a year.

I wanted the Breitling with the 2000 model emergency beacon in it. Just didn't want to spend $1800 on a watch. The one from the hot air baloon race.

"Time Piece" watch snob word, the correct definition of a a time place is:
1. A watch that has mechanical movements, be it a winder, a self winder or both.
2. A watch that will go up in value from the day you buy it.

I served as the Ground Safety Officer for VX-9 from 2016-2018, and the ward room did a order of Swiss Pilot watches (it wasn't Breitling, but I don't remember who). I didn't get one they were $3500, and not so great looking.

Any of you have/had a "Steinhart" I'm getting ready to hand down my Rolex Submariner and need a replacement. My every day is a Citizen Automatic, but I will soon have no dress watch, not that I "Dress" much, still....their Titanium GMT looks pretty good at like $700.

I just had my Rolex overhauled for it's soon to be new owner, man it looks brand new, they replaced the hands, the face (salt water intrusion) did anyone know you can dive with these things?, the bezel and the crystal. I've had it, used, since 88. It's an 85 but it looks better than ever.

So much visual description .....so little visual.

Congrats on it showing up!!!

It's a small community that knows what they are... but RESCO makes some awesome timekeeping instruments!

BTW, here's a fun article about them from a few years ago. https://www.foxnews.com/tech/6-of-the-best-bond-worthy-holiday-gifts

Funny thing is, they got no PR firm... no ad agency. Occasional ads taken out in magazines (and an occasional booth at SHOT show). But they show up all kinds of cool places.

Cheers,

Sirhr
Is the resco mechanical or crystal? Its a nice looking watch, i have a prefrence for mechanical watches though. Thats probably the first watch ive seen in a long time that doesnt look like a hub cap strapped to their wrist.

I only have one “electric Resco” which is a Red Circle. One of a pair. The others are ETA movements. They are rugged and great looking. Sort of stealthy, not bling at all.

The man with one watch always knows what time it is, the man with two is never quite sure.

I’ve had a few nice watches (18K Sub, rose gold Navitimer, 42mm black Superocean) but never was really attached to any of them. They were all acquired because they were great deals, the sub was a trade, the navitimer was helping a friend out who needed cash, and the Superocean was because it was $1500 lightly used.

In October I walked into a Breitling boutique and saw this giant 46mm Superocean sitting there in its DLC coated glory and walked out of the store with it on my arm and have been wearing it since. Definitely my favorite watch I’ve ever owned.

I’m most likely picking up one of the new Tudor black bay chronos that just came out this week if I like it in person. I’m on the wait list for a black sub date, and a Pepsi GMT but I’m not holding my breath for those.

Not the OP , but I think this is what he’s talking about ? Good watch for the price point. Someone is lucky to be getting a Submariner👍

I was wanting to see his "restored" Rolex. Sounds like it has served him well and he has cared for it.

Nice to see luxury items actually used for their purpose with honest wear.

Ive also wondered about the Steinhart products some look really neat mechanically and I question the price point....do you get what you pay for or do you get more than what the price suggests.

Here's the link to the Steinhart Ti.

That is pretty sharp looking, and titanium case and bracelet. 42 mm, which is getting on the large end, but it’s a pretty nice watch.

I wouldn’t buy that watch for a few reasons. First being that titanium watches and dress attire don’t really go together. They usually have a pretty dark patina. Titanium also scratches easier than SS watches. The second being it’s a major downgrade.

I’d buy another watch to gift or buy myself another Rolex or something else nice personally. Tudor has some nice dress watches starting in the mid 2’s for something simple that are on the shelves at dealers with no waits or paying a premium in the secondary market. The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra models are also very nice that can do everything from everyday casual to dress. You can get new Omegas from a secondary seller with full warranty (not grey market) for about 20-25% off.

I it absolutely has to be under a grand I’d get a G shock or a Seiko. Seiko makes the SKX009 in a Pepsi version if that’s what you want.

you fucking pricks are going to end up costing me money. again.

the luminox i’ve had for years, and recently put a new battery in, stopped one day. i reset the time and figured she gets one more chance before i replace it. i think i’ve had this one a good 15 years, and figured if it works, i’ll run it. if it fucks up once more, i’m replacing it. hard to find a simple, rugged watch these days.

someone fill me in on the lumination on the resco....

Think they use C3 SuperLuminova or BEG9 SuperLuminova ...maybe another. Non Tritium , uses light to lume up 👍 I have a couple of Seikos that get really really bright.
Watches can be costly holes to go down but lots of fun. !

I had a luminox gmt that broke. I think i paid like 13 bucks for a new quartz movement for it. I fixed it and sold it to a buddy who liked it more than i did. It was so easy to fix i did that a few times with broken ebay luminox watches i just dont like the way they fit my wrist.

I treated myself to this earlier this year, having long been a fan of Hawkings work and fascinated by cosmology. I really wanted a Bremont code breaker, but they are insanely expensive... they went out of sight price wise the moment they hit the market.

This is just a stunning bit of work by a small watchmaker with some great design cues.

It’s my “2021 will not suck” watch!

Cheers, Sirhr

If you cannot take a simple watch and navigate from point a to point b then you need to do some googling. The watch you wear, any watch is more than the sum of its parts. Some of us buy hornady calipers some of us own starrett, but you need a set either way. Knowing how to use them is a whole nother story.

Even back in the day, the amount of people who can legit dead reckon in the air or at sea is VERY low.
