Fucked up part, no specs on .MOA or MIL!

    That's Fucked Up!

    Still available? I'll take it.

(not sure why, but they look like they'd be a perfect fix the short leg on my shooting bench that wobbles)

But remember, I be a poors so I can go as high as $2.37.

You tell us you are "Hard" then whip out a new caliper...I see disappointment in your future. Not because it's a bad Caliper, its not, it's very accurate. So it will be a "Hard" fall. How will you ever lie to yourself now?

I was going to buy Starrett calipers then saw that they were made in china. Went with Mitutoyo, made in Japan, and were at a better price than over branded Starrett. Really sad to see Starrett go that route.

Real men by Starrett.......in analog.......made in the USA.

Posts the owner of some sweet Fowler digital that Ive had for twenty odd years and they continue to run strong.

i bought a set of mitutoyo analog calipers. very nice, but i should have gone digital. i had a smith and wesson branded set of chinese calipers that needed a new battery every time i used it so i went with the good analog.

off to find a digital mitutoyo set to tell my wife to buy me for father's day.

What are you talking about it clearly has a MOA (inch) and MIL (mm) button it’s right there in front of your face.....😁

Don't be like that Bruh. Don't. :ROFLMAO:

Nice. The upgraded coolant proof versions are nice.

    The 12"

And even better is when you get into the micrometers.

I'd take the 12 incher out of your post. Only cuz Choid gets so wet in his anal region every time he hears "12".

Where is a good place to buy these from?

Yep, I gottem direct from Viking. Best price I could find, as stated.

Thats true, my hornady cals just dont feel the same after perusing the mituyo section of my local reloading caliper superstore

I believe the message he is trying to convey to us is, even when he is “hard,” “it” can still be measured with a small 6” caliper.
'Tis an ominous pretense, isn't it? Needing something that measures into (down to?) very TINY differences, and that makes things 'hard'.....

I shall leave the rest of that alone.

But will add though, that it is a very nice "very-near" that you have, and it's the fancy-schmancey "digital" kind for old-guys-eyes as opposed to the original "optical comparitor" type with the actual scales....

(a few of ya'll will get that) Enjoy!

Mitutoyo stuff is excellent, I’ll take it over Starrett in a second. Old Starrett is very good and new is hit or miss for anything other than their top tier product but for most of that stuff I’ll take Suburban Tool, Riken or Japan Automatic Machine.

Mahr Federal makes exceptional stuff, manufactured in Germany.

At work we have mitutoyo for mics and calipers, browne and sharpe test indicators, lots of mahr federal for other stuff like air and snap gages, and 36" fowler trimos v4 height gages.

    :D
And nossir, not yet. It's an old tired mule, and 3-legged one at that.

That's Crazy! There is zero excuse for a damn envelope to go from me to you and take this long! None. I coulda walked to your place quicker.

How does one measure coolant with calipers?!
You don't measure the coolant that way. That is what a coolant refractometer is for.

The calipers are electronic. They are sealed and ip rated.
I work as a cnc machinist. Coolant is mixed between 3 and 10% concentration cutting oil to water or what I run these days is ~90 weight viscosity cutting oil called ilocut 5720. I run through lots of nitrile gloves that are always oily trying to measure parts.

The calipers are ip67 and micrometers are ip65.

    6x meaning is
No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust-tight). A vacuum must be applied. Test duration of up to 8 hours based on airflow.

    X7 meaning is
Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 meter (3 ft 3 in) of submersion).
    Test duration: 30 minutes.
Tested with the lowest point of the enclosure 1,000 mm (39 in) below the surface of the water, or the highest point 150 mm (5.9 in) below the surface, whichever is deeper.

    X5 is
Water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm (0.25 in)) against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.Test duration: 1 minute per square meter for at least 3 minutes
Water volume: 12.5 litres per minute Pressure: 30 kPa (4.4 psi) at distance of 3 meters (9.8 ft)

In other words if I ran the ones that OP bought, they'd be destroyed in a very short time.

Took me a while to get used to the Absolute. Even then I still often find myself closing it before turning on.

6" Mitutoyo and 50" Starrett. Biggest of the Starrett's I've see was 72" and I believe there were longer custom units costing thousands of $ back in the day.

I picked up a slightly used set of the IP67 version late last year and agree that they are a nice upgrade.

Only thing I dislike about my Mitutoyos is no auto shut off on mine. They are 20-30 years old however.

I prefer dial calipers myself and use mitutoyo, but I do have a couple of the digital mitutoyo mics they are very nice
