Took the AW 308 beater out yesterday. 2003 dated receiver with 2003 dated barrel, started off life as a LEO/Agency rifle. Bought from MHS a few years ago, unknown round count on barrel. 18yr old rifle, used and abused with a old out dated NF F1 and it still hammers! Shoots BH 175 BTHP at 2620 with a SD 7.7. You all can keep the new stuff.

Personally of all the AI rifles the AW or AT with thumb hole stock are still my favorites

Nice rig!

Hmm little concerned about the AIAT… did they just stop producing sage green folding stock sides and thumb hole stock adapter? I can never find them in stock!
Watch the px. They pop up from time to time. There’s was a sage green folding thumb hole stock a few weeks ago for sale. I’m sure it sold but you can search for it in case it didn’t

So I picked up a demo rifle (AI AT) from Mile High (yes the other one that was on gunbroker) and got it this past Thursday, got it sighted in on Friday at the NRL Hunter Defiance Match here in Montana and then shot the match with it this weekend. My first AI and I put it to the test right out of the gate. And for those wondering, yes, I actually managed to make weight for open heavy with it. 16lbs on the nose. The MDs and several competitors where impressed with it and even more impressed that it made weight.
For those wondering, my rifle setup:
AI AT in 6.5 CM with the factory 24in barrel
Leupold MK5HD 7-35 in ARC rings with no scope caps
The rifle came with an Arca rail on it, so I ran an Atlas Bipod on an Area 419 arca adapter.

The match was an absolute blast and I loved shooting the AT every second of it.

Glad both those AI AT's went to first time AI buyers... More AI guys to uphold the stereotype....

I made this meme for my son when he bought an AT. Busted his balls mercilessly.

Hello folks. I’m a newbie on this site but I wanted to share my recent happiness with you. Last weekend I popped out onto our long range at Stickledown, Bisley (UK) with my club for a shoot starting at 900 yards, falling back to 1,000 yards.

At 900, for a change, I did quite well despite dialling the wrong direction for windage (6MOA) on the first shot but I quickly realised my mistake and sorted it out. The first group of 9 scored me a shabby 43.4, but the second group of 10 shot at 900 yards made me very happy with a respectable 50.9. To date, that is the best score I have ever achieved at range and it did make me smile.

Moving back to 1,000 yards, all my luck was cast to the wind and the score was so shameful I refuse to share it.

I am looking forward to when I next get the chance to visit the States for some freedom time on your ranges.
Cheers.

Forgot to add, the beater AW provided first round hits at 880 and 1100 yds.

@NoLegs24 why would you want to avoid? Or were you joking ? It’s heavier than my RRS but it’s a beast and so stable.

Nope, not joking. The twist locks are on the slippery side and would not hold the legs in place. The ones I've used. We had to use some since it was a stage prop and 1 of tripods broke. A lot of guys were pissed, LOL. For the price they're charging, you think you'd get your moneys worth. Sure, its stable. But that has more to do with the weight, and width of the setup.

Guys ended up throwing a bag over the center column vs using the leveling base/ clamps.

An RRS Tripod+Anvil setup would easily smoke it.

Picked up the AXSR today. 300WinMag with a 300PRC proof carbon and 6.5CM (now waiting on the 308 bolt). Cerakoted by Delta Tactical here in Australia.

Hopefully get a chance to run it in when our baby arrives (should have been a few days ago! Everything happens at the same time around here).

That is one sweet range!! Nice shooting!

@Huskydriver Lol. I think I am passing on the ATX. Now if I could find an original green AO chassis I might be tempted. Seen a few posted but the members were selling the entire rifle. I still like the traditional AT look.

Ran the 300PRC proof barrel in this morning. Heavy fog limited visibility to about 130m, could barely see the target until 12 noon. 3oC (35oF approx) beautiful still morning.

Rounds 4-6 were ‘.817 MOA’
Rounds 7-9 were ‘.709 MOA’

According to BallisticX. The first group of 3 was rubbish at about 50mm but that’s ok. Quick basic clean in between lots, the barrel will no doubt settle down fairly soon, then drop validation and the rest can begin.

New rifle, new trigger, new barrel, new ergonomics, fog, tight for time, difficult position to get comfortable in, very happy considering... No doubt I was the weak link this morning.

Recoil is very mild with the 212gr ELDX Precision Hunter Hornady ammo through the sidewinder brake, was expecting a bit more bite. It feels more like a spicy 308 but not a magnum.

Overall, loving the AXSR so far, fantastic rifle.

Awesome setup man.
When you did your weight pic of 8195g, was that with the bipod as well?

Question for AXMC owners. What kind of barrel life are you getting out of your 338LM barrel on average? I just scoped mine and I am getting "fire cracking" just forward of the throat. I am not sure how many rounds I have down the tube on mine, quite counting after the 500 mark.
The barrel still holds sub MOA vertical dispersion at 1000 yrds but is starting to foul up easily( my range sessions are usually 50-60rnds of 300gr projo's running 2650-2750fps depending on the load.) I am going to run it till it hits over 1MOA dispersion, just trying to decide when to start looking for a new barrel.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks brother, very happy!

8195gm:
Base rifle, bolt in
26” proof carbon prefit barrel
Area419 sidewinder with adapter collar
Unloaded 300wm magazine
NF Beast with ARD & caps
MDT CkyePod (standard) arca mount
Spuhr 4603B

Magazines with 10x 300PRC rounds are 565gm approx.

Base rifle with bolt in, 300WM steel 26” barrel and APA brake with empty 300wm magazine is 7,140gm (15.75lb).

I haven’t weighed the barrels separately yet, will do that this morning.

My short action AX with 26” steel barrel, ATACR 7-35 and some bits is even heavier which is strange and surprising! 9,340gm.
