Whats up all. Ive finally gotten back into shooting and well my solvents, oils etc are pretty old now. Sure they may be still okay, but I thought with technogloy and all, there has to be something out there better than what I have... Im going to need it all again. I might even get new jags and nylon brushes.. I still have my bore guides and my Dewey rods, so Im good there.

Any suggestions on what brands, what to get etc?

Bore Tech Eliminator. Won’t hurt your barrel, won’t knock the hair out of your nose, and works GREAT.

They also make a carbon remover and a copper remover but Eliminator has both and works very well.

Also Patch Out. Another good one you can leave in the barrel and not worry about pitting from ammonia.

Check out Bore Tech’s jags. They make them w no copper in there so you can tell that the blue is coming from the bore. I wish they would make a Parker Hale style in that material but alas they do not.

I have Sweet’s and Butch’s on the shelf....just to look at them and wonder when I’m going to throw that caustic crap out. Haha.

welcome back.

Boretech should do it cleaning wise. I like Cherry Balmz for lubricant. Bolt Balm and Black Rifle Balm. Boretech’s oil is good stuff too.

I like Butch's Bore Shine for barrels and general purpose cleaning, Hoppes #9 or Hoppes Elite (no smell) for general purposes like cleaning pistols, Pro Choice Copper Solvent IV for bad copper fouling, and TW25 as a grease--this will make your bolts run crazy-smooth.

What about an oil for long term protection of the bore - I have Slip EWL here thats old... maybe it'll work for that still?

None. Put some grease on a patch and leave a light film of it on the bore. You want something that stays where you put it.

Patch it out with solvent when needed.

I use any ol penetrating oil for bore cleaning. Kroil or WD-40 Specialist work well. Synthetic motor oil and general purpose grease for lubrication.

The only "gun" cleaning product I own is Bore Tech copper eliminator which I rarely use.

I guess im still stuck in the past all i use is Hoppes #9 for bore cleaning, Sweets for copper and FP-10 for lubricating everything from pistols to rifle bores.
I use Pro Long EP-2 grease on my bolt lugs and sear surfaces, pretty sure thats the same thing Kelblys includes with thier actions.

I have some of that classic #9; but in my time here, I clean bores less and less. Truthfully, not at all until the weapon becomes a turd.

Synthetic Mobil 1 5-w30 for everything, and a couple of my buffer springs have Lucas grease on them, so they don't "sproing"

I’m regards to lubricants, this stuff is 👌

So, I have been kind of itching to try this. But once I caught the suppressor bug, why shoot unsuppressed anymore.....

Both my vehicles use 5/30syn, so I have a good charge around, Mobil 1 being my choice. Seems as though, if its meant to stop carbon buildup in its normal use, should work perfect in this instance. Price can not be beat. Best of all; it gets cold here in the winter, and pappy don't stop shooting. But with off shelf lubes, common problems lie in the ambient temp. Too hot: shits gone, too cold: shit stops running. Once I found a winner, I just plain stuck with it

yup I don’t blame you. If it ain’t broke you got no reason to fix it.
