West (By GOD) Virginia
Winchester 1892 with 24" barrel
158 grain Nosler JSP with a stout load of Lil Gun.
Shot was at 30 yards.

He was standing on his hind legs scraping a tree with his claws. I shot him at the base of the neck where it meets his shoulders.

The bullet did not exit however I was unable to locate it due to the amount of damage it did. There was so much hemmoraging that I simply couldnt find it in the mess. I was in a tree stand about 8 or 10 feet up but due to the slope I was on a flat trajectory with him. Its actually my favorite spot. 5 different game trails come together right there and the acorns are always heavt this time of year. He dropped in his tracks and never took a step. I was flatly surprised at the amount of damage that little round did to him. Not only did it break his neck (the vertebrae were completely shattered) but every bit of muscle was obliterated. It looked like I hit him with a 308. The entire length of his neck was mushed. It also severed his trachea and blew all the arteries in his neck. There was a river of blood pouring out of him. One of the fellas who helped me load him up asked me if I had shot him with a 270 due to the mess it made.

Nice.
Already bear rifle season?

That bullet did exactly what it was designed to do. Expend all of it’s energy inside the body. Well placed shot as well. Great work.
