Total newbie re-loader. RCC has brass but it is real expensive. Domestically it is very difficult to find any ammo. The two domestic suppliers are in no rush to sell any. I have not yet purchased any dies for this. The dies are expensive and it may not even be worth it to buy the dies. It's just a range toy you almost never take out. Question. Anyone know if the (brass case PPU) can be re-loaded, with .50 BMG primers ?

Interesting project, we’ve made brass for 12.7x108 but never reloaded any of it and never had any ppu samples to dissect. If it’s anything like the specs we made to it shouldn’t be much different than reloading BMG.

I applaud your ambition to jump right into a non-standard big bore cartridge as a newbie reloader. Maybe while you wait a year for custom dies and brass, get the hang of a decent long action or magnum cartridge. I cringe when I think back to the foolish mistakes I made when I was starting out:
  • creating excessive headspace because I wasn't setting up my sizing die correctly
  • allowing interruptions that lead to attention to detail mistakes
  • not double checking powders I was loading because a lot of labels look similar
  • getting measurements wrong because I don't know how to use the tools properly
  • forgetting to trim long cases and getting scary pressure spikes
  • I could go on....
Just take your time and be careful when you're starting out.

Thank you for the advice. I just took (July 01) the Unknown Munitions reloading class, in SLC. I may buy the dies to re-load the cartridge - down the road. In no way will I jump in and begin reloading this cartridge anytime soon. The PPU round costs about $6.00 each. It does not help that the guv just removed the Russian lowballer ammo from the room. I would hope the PPU ammo can be re-loaded at some point.

What type of rifle is this?

Ether way very cool

GM6 Lynx. I imported this directly from HU and also purchased the optional switch barrel. (I have not yet used the rifle). It's a range toy. I have a Voere X5 rifle I am in the process of ordering direct and one of the barrels is the 12.7x108mm. Other Voere rifles are also being imported for re-sale - X3 with switch barrel capability - along with the X5.

That's a beast of a rifle to shoot. Cool, but not pleasant at all. Enjoy!

Thanks. Probably true. Excellent workmanship and value.
Peek inside the case and see if its boxer primed, that would save you some grief out the gate.

I believe it is boxer. I purchased from Sam. PPU rep did not have all the answers for Sam. Non-corrosive - per Sam. If I re-load this cartridge (if ever), it will be years from now. Triebel has the dies. $$$$$.

Yes

The optional barrel is located in the upper right hand corner under the foam. The barrel and return spring is intermittently exposed from the foam.

Newbie Question.

The projectiles according to CIP are slightly different.

G1 .50 BMG 12.98
G1 12.7x108mm 13.01

Question. Any clue if the .50 BMG projectile is good to go with the 12.7x108mm case ?

The concern is the .50 BMG projectile performing with the 12.7x108mm barrel.

Again - not looking to reload tomorrow or the next day.
The items to consider are buying some select components to reload and attempt to beat Brandon's around the corner price increases.
