I'd guess that you're just very immature and "judgey" about where people are from. A lot of that immaturity in the south comes from being butthurt from losing the great anti-slave war 157 years ago. Just can't get over that you democrats got beaten so fucking badly! Losers are like that sometimes. I feel sorry for all your pent up frustration and hate.
Jason, it is a common misconception that the Civil War was fought over slavery, it was not. The southern states seceded from the union because of an overarching federal government trying to consolidate power. Slavery became a wedge issue, the Emancipation Proclamation wasn't signed until 2 years into the Civil War. Well, the Union won the war and we got our overarching federal government and suffer the consequences every day now. I do not disagree with the premise of the southern states seceding to prevent a centralized government. My comment about them still calling people Yankees 157 after the war was in jest which southerners have no tolerance for.

That was a waste. He's already proclaimed that you need to go read a real history book.

Indoctrinated by the government schools

Try using the word coon when your trashcan is turned over in the middle of the night.

Oh, Tell me about it. At my University, one of the biggest auditoriums where a lot of lectures were given and a lot of other presentations were made was named after its primary benefactor, one Mr. "Owen L. Coon." When we were doing walking campus tours for the unsuspecting, we joked with them saying, "Over there...... that's the Coon Forum......" <silence, then seconds later> "NOT THE COON FORUM but the 'Owen L Coon' forum..." :ROFLMAO:

And, that quote by Lincoln was about keeping the union together, nothing more. He did not want a Civil War. The slaves would have been freed anyways, as there were WAY too many people with a brain and a conscience in the United States to let the ownership of human beings continue much longer. And Lincoln knew that, as well. And, I get it, you are trying to free the southern democrats of the guilt they have for owning slaves and starting the KKK afterwards. Much like racism, if you people would just stop talking about it, and GET OVER YOUR LOSS, it would go away.
Get the fuck out of the motivational picture thread already you British loser. This is not the place for your revisionist version of how we should be. Look to your own problems that seem to work so well for Europe (extreme sarcasm intended). Now shut the fuck up!!

Believing the war was simply about slavery is a comfortable position for many in the North. It's a virtue signal they were taught. I was schooled in the Deep North and it's certainly the version I was taught. Just like how FDR single-handedly saved the world by spending money that didn't exist. After doing my own research and study I found that what Biden said is true - The left prefers truth over facts.

None of this morivational though.

I find the whole North/South thing amusing. We no longer hate the Germans and Japanese from a war which was twice as recent.
I spent an October and November in 2001 digging up POW/MIA remains in Vietnam. The only people that were dicks there were the very few Viets I saw in their 70's.

I have a girl that works for me that always says "bless your heart" and she doesn't mean "fuck you" like southerners do, she means "may God bless your heart". She was pissed that she has been saying it for years here in the West and not knowing that she could be taken out of contest. She is a Latina and has not travelled much outside of New Mexico. Yes she is hot, no I don't have a picture of her. She looks like a Gina Carino, but without the beauty mark and she's not as fit.

Precisely. As an example, recall that most of the arms manufacturers were still based in the North. The South had trouble staying armed. Which, I guess, bodes much better for us if we ever do go to Civil War 2.0 (and I hope we never do)... At least we'll have the majority of arms manufacturers down our way...

Um, no, you are indoctrinated by the "Lost Cause" BS taught as revisionist history in the south. I guess you never read any of the constitutions of the traitor states (CSA) - EVERY one listed slavery as the cause for secession. People like you are the reason the south is seen as illiterate, uneducated, butthurt losers. I see mostly good in all 50 states, but yeah, there is the same percentage of assholes in EVERY state. If you happen to get out of the county of your birth before you are too old and narrow minded to change your mind, you, too, may learn this. Oh, and the part about traitor Lee being a great general - let me ask you this, if Lee was so great, and the south was so great, why in the fuck did they lose the war!? Try to be honest and do honest research about that.
OMG... The density factor.

So, the south was too stupid to invent and mechanize?
They tried.

It's a little hard to do in the middle of a war without the materials or institutional knowledge. Massachusetts had most of the knowledge and lots of the metal mines were in the north.

To appease the Motivational thread, yesterday I got to look at the sporterized SMLE that I will eventually get from my father in law. It was his dad's hunting rifle. Upper hand guards and sight protector wings missing and forward stock cut down. No1 MKIII* as best as I can tell (no windage on rear sight).

Jason you need to take a Midol and calm down. Your menstrual cramps are getting the better of you.

South Carolina was the last state to join the Union and the first state to secede. They seceded over states rights. You can argue that slavery was one of those states rights if you want to but that is not the primary reason the seceded.

As far as me trying to free southern Democrats of their guilt, not one single Democrat is still alive today that was involved in the Civil War to be absolved of guilt. It was also not a Democrat Vs. Republican thing until the conservative Republicans pushed the Emancipation Proclamation in Congress.

As far as me personally being a southerner or Democrat and getting over my loss, my family fought with Union in the 4th and 5th Iowa Volunteers out of Waterloo and were in Atlanta and Charleston when they fell.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

History is full of messy bits that nobody really wants to talk about.
Nobody was on the side of the angels
Everybody loved their slaves and didn't want to let them go.

The Industrial revolution is what actually eliminated slavery.
It became cheaper to have disposable workers that you could pay a pittance to and not care what happened to them while running your machines.
Buying, owning and caring for slaves became counterproductive to generating wealth once you just needed a few wage slaves to run your machines.

The north was where all the cheap immigrant labour was pouring into and where factories and industry was exploding.
The north had the industry, the factories and an endless supply of immigrants willing to work for anything or able to be conscripted into the army to go fight.

Slavery around the industrial world came to an end within a very short timeframe, the USA was actually a bit behind the curve as stupids argued about "property rights" of the slave owners. Texas for example was kind of partly started because the Texans didn't appreciate the Mexican government abolishing slavery and were in no mood to give up their slaves...

They tried.
It's a little hard to do in the middle of a war without the materials or institutional knowledge. Massachusetts had most of the knowledge and lots of the metal mines were in the north.
and traditionally the North started industrializing sooner because of fast moving streams that could power mills. The south with it's warmer climate was happily agrarian.

And for the obligatory picture, this is the premier book that explains why the average southerner fought against the north.

So, the south was too stupid to invent and mechanize?

The land was taken up by farming. The climate in the south is generally warmer.

How do you think the Pittsburgh Steelers got their name? Iron mines in the north east. It's been called the rust belt for a reason. The foundries where steel was made, was in the north east. The machines to produce steel into more machines was in the north east.

The confederates fought with empty bellies, and bare feet. Logistics is why the Union won. Soldier to soldier you had a blue coat that had recently been taught to shoot a rifle against a ragged Grey that had been shooting one since the day he could hold one. The Sharp's rifle was fired by Lincoln himself, in the back yard of the White House. The confederates said "that damn Yankee gun you could load on Sunday and fire it all week". While they were mostly still muzzle loading.

The U.S. Navy embargoed cotton leaving Texas for market. So they couldn't raise funds.
