Silencer Shop News Update: ATF eForms Launch Imminent!

The dealer entered everything for me on their account, then submitted with my username and PIN number. That’s at least my understanding of how it was being done from across the desk.

yes, that's how it showed it in the video

After the watching the video, the process seems pretty straightforward. I just hope my dealer will do it all for me and not make me come in to tap on the screen for the questions and putting my CC and account info in :/

I spoke with silencer shop today. They are not processing from 4’s. They are sitting on them until the ATF tells them their system is stable. They are afraid they will crash the system with their volume of apps. I told them that’s bullshit. Crash the fuckin system.
Welp, that blows. Mine are apparently ready to certify, but if SS isn't sending them, who knows....?

Got this a few days ago. Looks like there is some additional "finalization" by the ATF.

Thu, Jan 6, 4:26 PM (5 days ago)
Good evening,

Once the ATF clears us to proceed on finalizing applications, we will reach out with further instruction on how to proceed. Your dealer will then call you to set up a date to certify on your eForm 4 and then you're good to go!

^^^ That's pretty much the same thing I got from SS when I inquired about my form 4. They’re my dealer, and the status still says preparing forms. Purchased early Nov- 2+ months of form preparation? The ATF has shifted the bottle neck. How TF does it take 2 months to process an e form, but they can fill out a paper form in a couple of weeks. Rediculous.

I note that the ATF doesn't say whose “cloud” this system is hosted on.

We do all know that “cloud” just means they are running in someone else’s server farm, right? Haha

It’s a bummer, I get that there is a huge influx. However places like Capitol Armory have been submitting while the rest of us that ordered through SS are falling behind in line.

I have 7 cans in traditional paper jail ranging from 210 days to 45 days since check cashed and I ordered the 8th can 11/20. Considering it’s been in limbo with this EForm stuff, I just pulled the plug. Told SS to file it via paper and hopefully check gets cashed soon and I get a batch approva

Just got this email from Silencer Shop today. Basically looks like local SoT will be handling the paperwork through Silencer Shop software.

Yes, you still need to create an eform account with the ATF. Silencer shop files it for you, but you still need to verify everything with your local dealer. That is done online, somehow, with your account info and pin.

Silencer shop has been clear that everyone will still need an ATF account. The rest of the process is what I've gathered from a couple of my jailed cans and other internet sources.

I'm currently waiting on my local dealer to get ahold of me for the verification stuff. If you check your silencer shop profile, the statuses have changed a bit to reflect how the new process should work.
How does the ATF correlate your user account to the eForm submitted by the dealer? Email address? Suppressor S/N?

I submitted my form 4 today and is in process. I didn’t provide electronic finger prints and the ATF immediately sent a letter to print off and send in with finger print cards.

Really not looking forward to goign to my local SS kiosk store a second time. Seems like cluster trying to get them to learn this new procedure and god forbid there's any issue sort and this is their first time and we have to somehow get SS on the phone which takes hours. I asked them the process fore efile before I purchased and they conveniently forgot to mention this second trip back to the store before I purchased.

Yeah just bail and go traditional route. I did with mine. Figured I’d let this EFile marinade for a year or so before I try it again.

Now iv got 2 at the dealer waiting. They havnt heard anything from silencershop but said they were supposed to this week. Sounds like they are still trying to figure out their software

I work for a dealer and we’re still waiting for our software and explanation from SS as to how this works. We do a ton through them, but were not one of the early dealers to get the software. They said in the next few days. However they did send emails to our customers telling them to come in and certify, even though we’re not ready to do so. That was an awkward convo with the customer.

im interested to see how it will work because the ATF has been very clear to us that people are NOT supposed to give out their PINs, which means they need to come in. They’ve also indicated only one person is allowed to use the store efile account and has to be an official signer on the FFL. This means having to make sure that person is available. So it will be interesting the next few weeks.

i ship high scale software ever 2 weeks. No down time. My product does around 100 mil transaction a montj and doesmt blick, wtf is silencershop and atf doing. this shit isnt hard.

Well, ATF is .gov, and they never get an initial roll out of a digital service right. It'll be 6 months to a year to get it running semi-smooth.

So it will be 7 months of beta testing eforms and then 3 months for actual approval = 10 months average total wait.

Regular paper filing = 10 months average total wait.

Seems that way IF they don’t just scrap it and go back to paper. That said, if they pull this shit off, it has real potential to make things faster. Ultimately, the only solution is removal from NFA, but I don’t know that we’ll ever see enough people in congress with the sack to push it through.

2 months of no significant or clear communication from silencer shop. I should have stuck with my local dealer and paper.

If you can't wait you should just get out of guns completely especially nfa. And never ever pre order anything. You've started the paperwork. Have patience.

It's a new system. It's being done by the government. How do you think it's going to go?
giphy.gif

Btw if you haven't seen zootopia you should.

My first took 13 months. With a dealer that didn't have a range. I've currently got a cash date of June. Different dealer this time. The latest I've seen coming back is the first of March and some are still coming in from January.

How do you think the people that did their paperwork right before the announcement will feel when you get yours before them? Chill.

It will get figured out.

We all know .gov is slow, but I think the lack of communication from Silencer Shop is what I have a problem with. If it takes more time, tell us it takes more time. Tell us you're waiting for guidance. But don't tell me that 2 weeks after the system is up, that my stuff will start to be processed, and that my dealer just found out details late last week on how it's going to work. When you aren't passing info to your dealers, you are doing a disservice to them.

Send them an email. i did just that and got a non-boilerplate response in a couple of days. And, everyone that has an e-form with silencer shop should have gotten the email about next steps that they sent out last week. I think it was titled “ready to certify...“

What good is that going to do? They arent telling us the reality and hiding the ball. I bought my suppressor 4 weeks ago and just now found out about a second trip to the store to certify and still haven’t gotten the notification to do so. I wonder how many more weeks it will take just to submit the eform. They were plenty happy to brag about getting me the suppressor in 3 months though when I was shopping for one

I’m right there with you, except I bought mine in early November- still no form submitted. I’m thinking that the suppressor I bought in October, and submitted via paper form, will beat the e-form. So, I get it. My point is that if you contact SilencerShop, they will tell you what is going on. It is just that the whole situation is a goat fuck that is doubly fucked because so many forms were held back in order to clog the system once it went live.

I’ve said it before- it is folly to ascribe to malice that which can be explained by incompetence.

Except they won’t. It’s clearly going to be a clusterfuck trying to train dealers and get them up to speed. they won’t tell you that same way they didn’t tell any of us about the dealer system in advance. I asked all about the process for eform before I purchased not one single mention of anything from the dealer side or having to drive back there to certify. This is going to suck and god forbid you have a problem and have to wait 5 hours to get someone from there on the phone.

First suppressor?

I bought a can a month ago as well, specifically because of this efile system. Haven't heard from my dealer either about certifying. I do have an email in to Silencer Shop to see if they can give me an update.

I figured going in I would be waiting a year either way, regardless of what Silencer Shop is stating. If I have it by summer I'll consider myself lucky, but not planning on it.

On a few occasions, nn my completely un-illustrious career, I worked on Fed Government acquisitions that included significant large software component.

It was amazing to see that the Feds could actually fucked it up that badly without even trying. Just infuriated me to see the utter incompetence, apathy, and lack of commitment to anything other than pulling their pay check.

It was an eye opener and while I hope that this AFT software initiative breaks the mold....I would not hold my breath for it.

Cheers

No fucking kidding. I had a F4 go in and they ran my card less than a week before eFile was announced as coming back. I figure I will be lucky to have that can by next Christmas.

My experience with the new EFORMS.

I did a single shot trust with Silencershop through my LGS at their kiosk about on 12/11. Got all the trust paperwork signed online electronically through email once Silencershop sent out the forms about 10 days later. At this point we were waiting on the ATF to get the eforms figured out. On 1/16 got a call from my LGS that the form 4 was ready to certify. My LGS had me log on to SS website and click the certify link. We basically did a screen share through that link if I remember correctly and he filled out his info, I entered my ATF eforms username and PIN and that was it. It's submitted to the ATF for approval.

I certified one through my silencershop dealer this morning. It was easy. I have to go back for the other, I had no idea that silencershop basically prepares the document for them, got a TBAC from them direct to the dealer and they are running it eform through silencershop, so now I’m waiting for silencershop to say it’s ready to certify so I can go back in and do that one.

The process at the dealer was extremely easy, sucks it can’t be done from home actually. My dealer didn’t have me log in at all, just pulled up the program and away I went.

Just validated mine. Clock has started. We’ll see how this first rounds goes.

For those that validated over the last few days, how long before it showed up in your eForm webpage, or does it at all since it went in through the dealer and wasn’t self completed?

I don't see mine on the eform account. On the silencershop website it said submitted like 10 minutes after I did it though.

That is the same as mine so far.

I received a eForms Application Submission Notification email from the ATF, when my dealer submitted my paperwork last week.

I spoke with dealer today regarding the Dead Air Nomad I bought the end of November from SilencerShop. He said he still has not received the form 4 yet. Almost 11 months from when I purchased my first suppressor of the year last year. Hopefully 2022 will be a good year getting 5 new cans in my hands.

Is silencershop making everyone come in to the shop for the final certification, individual or trust?
