    Funny Hunting Stories

Here comes another one. This happened to my son and grandson last weeken on an elk hunt in northern Arizona. As you may know, we got smacked with a half a year worth of rain and snow in a couple of days at Thanksgiving. The roads north were closed due to a foot + of snow, including I-17. My...

    Critique my 6.5 CM handloading process-UPDATE 9/30

With small samples you should expect your true ES to be about 4 times your SD with 5% of your shots falling outside that value.

    Primer pockets and seating... WTH!?!?

Your process sounds much like mine and I did not experience the trouble you describe. I gave up on Hornady brass though because I could only get 2 or 3 reloads before the primer pockets got too loose. I now use Lapua (srp) brass. Costs more but lasts longer. I use a Frankford Arsenal Platinum...

The downside for me is that you have to handle each primer. My fingers aren’t that nimble anymore.

    Primer Seating Tool

I have the Frankford Arsenal Platinum priming tool, but the seating stem is not concentric with the primer pocket when the shell is placed in the shell holder. This means I have to fidget with shell positioning and I am not confident that primers are evenly seated. I don’t want to handle every...

Need help figuring out best way to work up a load for a brand new caliber in a brand new barrel

Yeah sometimes it takes more than 60. My most recent barrel speeded up until it got to 150. A chrono helps here, but honestly out to 300 you might not notice too much of a change. As @Ranger188 said, if something seems not right early on after you think you have your load, might need to retry...

Need help figuring out best way to work up a load for a brand new caliber in a brand new barrel

Start at the low end and work up to pressure... carefully. Examine each case after firing it before going to the next one up. Stop when you see any pressure signs. If you have doubts about recognizing pressure get an experienced reloader to go to the range with you.

Need help figuring out best way to work up a load for a brand new caliber in a brand new barrel

No worries. Do the single round runup to find pressure, the do an OCW with loads around that 98% load. Then adjust seating depth and shoot for groups. Then shoot for groups at distance to see how they hold up. If you find a lot of vertical dispersion at distance there may be an issue with...

Need help figuring out best way to work up a load for a brand new caliber in a brand new barrel

Personally I would probably start with 0.3 gr intervals. Are you planning to shoot an OCW type test? chrono? You might also consider just loading one round at each load and going up until to see pressure... might save you pulling some bullets. One of our knowledgable members has observed that...

    MPA 6.5SL chamber specs

I have that rifle. Al will send you a print of you ask. It is a Pacific Tool reamer. I have both 6.5 CM and 6mm CM barrels... very easy to switch and both shoot very well. In the 6.5 I am using Berger 130 hybrids loaded to 2.82 in COAL with CCI 450 primers, Lapua brass and RL 16 41.8 gr to get...

    6.5cm powder.

I clean every 100-200 rounds. I do get a carbon ring, but it cleans out with Bore Tech Carbon Remover, a nylon brush and short cleaning rod without much trouble. YMMV. For the rest of the barrel I just run 3 wet patches, followed by dry patches and repeat once. The Teslong borescope is great for...

What did you do in the reloading room today?

Decided to look for a lower velocity node for my 6CM. I have a nice one at 40.8 gr of RL16 with 105 hybrids and F 205M primers, but its going 3150 fps and I’d like to keep shooting that barrel past 500 rounds. I tried dropping to 40.2 and 39.6 grains but switched primers to CCI 450 and found...
