    Density Altitude

By who? A question was asked, and neither of the other people replying to beetroot answered it, and in fact both replies were misleading to indicate that DA is just an approximation of the exact environmentals, when in reality it gives you the same answer and requires the same tools to measure...

    Density Altitude

Then you should have been able to answer the question that you attempted to. I don't care how much you know something; if your comments indicate that you do not, whether through lack of information or just plain bad communication, don't be surprised if someone asks about it.

    Density Altitude

Nothing to lighten up about, chill out yourself. Someone asked for information and he gave bad info. Correcting it doesn't mean I'm worked up, and his response gave no indication that he actually understands DA. What you're saying isn't fully accurate either and can vary a lot depending on...

    Density Altitude

That has nothing to do with it. Do you understand what DA is? It's not just altitude. How would you know what the DA is without some sort of device to measure and calculate it? Doesn't matter whether you have charts if you don't know what the number is in the first place.

    Density Altitude

Because you need at least 3 measurements to estimate DA - pressure, altitude, and temperature. DA combines all of that into a single number, and is simpler. (Of course truly accurate DA measurements are more complicated than that, but we don't need to be that precise.) If you are trying to only...

Question about bedding a barrel with shim stock

That works for some other uses of shim stock, but you really want a wider section of shim for AR barrel bedding than a feeler gauge. McMaster Carr sells a good selection of shim stock and it's fairly inexpensive. You can buy an assortment pack that has all the sizes you're likely to need.

Question about bedding a barrel with shim stock

I wouldn’t use .0005” stock with what you’ve described. If the barrel is a loose fit without any shims, you should be able to make it work with a full wrap of .001” shim. That’s a .002” press fit at the most, and more likely closer to .001” (if it feels loose, you’re not starting with a perfect...

    Density Altitude

I have Barometer Plus as well but never use it; it just gives you pressure instead of a direct density altitude reading. That’s why I switched to Density Alt in the first place. I guess they must have dropped the free version of Density Alt, but the paid version is definitely worth a few bucks...

    Density Altitude

This is the easiest density altitude app I’ve found, and it uses the internal barometer in the phone rather than a weather service for pressure. Temp is easy to estimate closely enough for shooting even if you don’t have service. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/density-altitude/id994402197

    New 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge

Just a tip - the 90gr TGK is a little different profile than the ELDX and can be pushed another 100 fps faster from my 19” barrel (maybe ~80 fps faster from your 14.5”?). It can be seated farther out without getting into the lands, providing more powder capacity, and the shorter bearing surface...

    New 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge

No, and no. Yet another example of your relying too much on what QL says and making assumptions from it. And that’s the problem right there. People like you think that the data QL gives you is good data, without understanding some of the assumptions that go into it. Same as with your optimum...

    New 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge

Seems like a lot of people are buying large quantities just because there’s a shortage. Which of course drives more shortages. But other guys actually use it, especially the prairie dog shooters although I can’t speak for anyone here on that. Personally, 1K pieces of something like 9mm brass...

.223 reloads - ugly groups, chuckles, and head scratching

I did look; you didn’t say. Maybe your post got deleted? Now that we know you’re looking for a load with 75gr BTHP and 2520 maybe someone can suggest a good load.

.223 reloads - ugly groups, chuckles, and head scratching

Ok, so you got some 75gr BTHP, those are good. What powders did you get? I didn’t see anywhere that you mentioned these details previously. You’ll get a lot better suggestions for a load if we know what you have.

.223 reloads - ugly groups, chuckles, and head scratching

You’ll need to start by identifying whatever bullets you can find available; that will determine the best powder choices. Don’t select a powder before the bullets. We can all tell you good loads for a certain bullet and powder, but as someone else pointed out this is a really bad time to get...

    New 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge

I agree; IMO I’ve yet to see any QL data posted for this cartridge that’s of any real value, and it doesn’t even seem to do a good job of predicting the best powders compared to published load data or my own experience.

    New 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge

Thanks for the link, just ordered more myself. Starline seems to handle pressure better than Lapua in this cartridge, and uniformity seems to be nearly as good. I neck turn all my 6mm brass and both of these brands only need a couple thousandths taken off at most.

.223 reloads - ugly groups, chuckles, and head scratching

Your first starting place should be a good load manual, preferably the one published by the manufacturer of the bullets you will use. Assuming though from your post that you don't have any printed manuals (although your buddy should?), you still have access to several good online resources...

    New 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge

No, SWFShooter is right about that part; the volume that actually matters under pressure is that of the case pressed against the chamber walls. Here's an interesting and semi-related detail to think about (and try yourself) - with the same load, a FL sized case will usually show less pressure...

    New 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge

You're still assuming correlations that don't exist. One is your comment about optimum barrel time and harmonics leading to lowest ES/SD; those are independent things and one does not cause the other. Another one is your assumption that you can estimate optimum barrel time based on barrel length...
