Sidearms & Scatterguns Dear Glock and racegun owners,

Well, I'll give you the parts list, but you won't get there by just dropping in parts. Especially not by just buying one set of parts and expecting it to all fit and function perfect. Every excellent Glock trigger I own is the result of testing and comparing multiple parts, and then hand fitting...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Dear Glock and racegun owners,

I was never particularly impressed with the Johnny Glock triggers. Like you said, meh. Not sure why people talk about them as some sort of pinnacle of Glock triggers. They aren't, and neither are pretty much any other Glock trigger with the possible exception of the full Zev package that's...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Dear Glock and racegun owners,

That trigger can work well as part of an overall package, but doesn't do much by itself. Most of your gains will be found in changing the connector and springs.

Anyone know where to get a modified case made?

Any decent local machine shop can do this as well - although it'll help if you know the thread size or can bring them the male end. (I forget what size it is off-hand.) I've done a few of these - just support the case head in the lathe and drill/tap it. The tapered case body doesn't get crushed...

Suppressors Newbie suppressor owner - Condensation causing pressure?

Agreed. And even then, the difference in bolt thrust comparing maximum extremes of "lubed" vs "friction" is very small relative to normal bolt thrust. - At the "lubed case" extreme, if we assume the case is perfectly lubed then the bolt thrust is equal to pressure times area inside the case...

adjustable gas block vs suppressor optimized gas port

A lot of people seem to get confused on this issue, but the simple truth is that a "suppressor optimized" gas port provides exactly the same function as a single setting on an adjustable gas block. You can also install a restricting bushing in a normal gas block and accomplish the same thing...

Suppressors Newbie suppressor owner - Condensation causing pressure?

Lubricant on cases does not cause high pressure - even if water did act as a lubricant in that condition. It doesn't take a Phd in steam engines to recognize that water subjected to extremely high heat and pressure creates steam, which can and does raise pressure of a closed system.

Ultrasonic cleaner entire upper, keeping optic outside the water level?

When my AR uppers get too filthy to tolerate any more, I remove the BCG and CH and hose down inside the receiver with WD40 or mineral spirits (either one works great as a cleaning solvent). Let it soak for a few minutes, then blow it all out with compressed air. Any really stubborn spots can be...

Suppressors Newbie suppressor owner - Condensation causing pressure?

Very interesting stuff. I've never encountered it, but can see how it'd happen when conditions are just right (or just wrong?). The simple fact is, our air can contain a lot of water, especially this time of year if you're not in one of the really dry parts of the country. I've been noticing...

*New Product* MDT Field Stock for the Ruger American SA Rifle

Definitely going to try one of these. Not till after Christmas for me, but looking forward to trying one out.

Who Makes Thermal Fit Stripped Uppers?

Yeah I've got 4 or 5 of those now (I think from your recommendation here IIRC), they've all been a strong thermal fit and shoot really well when matched with good barrels. To clarify for anyone buying these though, their standard uppers are not thermal fit, but the "Mod 0" are. It's in their...

    Your PVA prefit experience

Do you have a rough estimate of when you'll complete a batch of those CDM prefits in 6GT? I'm on order #14163 from this summer. I'd rather wait for everything to be done right, so not trying to rush you, just looking for an updated ETA estimate so that I can make a decision on fitting a...

Gunsmithing Running Automotive Grease in Firearms

It's good for one other thing gun-related - cleaning out carbon fouling quickly in actions & receivers. Hose it on wet, let it soak for a few minutes, and then blow it all out with compressed air. Of course you can do the same thing with mineral spirits, but WD40 comes in a convenient spray...

    6mm max

While that's true, it's only part of the story. Keep in mind that they chose to design a bullet that didn't previously exist but that wouldn't fit a standard 6mm Grendel within that shortest mag constraint. Everyone else out there already shooting a 6 Grendel of some sort was fine even with...

    5.56 SBR Reloads?

Maybe it should be reiterated again: rifle barrel length doesn't affect pressure, other than extremely short barrels that nobody actually uses. It's not a matter of length having less effect than other things, it doesn't affect it at all (other than the rare instance of a secondary pressure peak...

    6mm max

Exactly. It’s funny how “tens of thousands of hours” of development were expended but somehow nobody could figure that out… Of course they did; they knew exactly what they were doing even if some of the lower people in that totem pole may not have understood the real reasons for pushing a...

    6mm max

I think what you meant to say is that Hornady chose to offer a specific bullet that didn’t work at the minimum possible magazine length restriction. Which conveniently “required” them to develop a “new and never been done before!” cartridge that is functionally identical to what a lot of people...

    5.56 SBR Reloads?

This seems to be a common hang up for new reloaders: you do not need different load data for short barrels. The only special consideration for short barrels is if you’re looking for a low flash powder, but that’s just about powder choice. Once you’ve selected the powder, like the H4895...

    6mm max

Uh, what? Where did you hear that BS? 6mm Grendel wildcats have been around pretty much since the Grendel came out. They work great, which I can attest to personally with thousands of rounds through them using a bunch of different mags. Don’t believe everything the Hornady marketing group...
