Hunting & Fishing Climbing for deer (6 XC)

Me & Pete are friends. I been to NZ twice and hunted/shot with him. It's a fantastic destination for a hunter, a lot of freedom and opportunity. The downside is expensive tickets and 33 hours on a plane.

Thanks. Wouldn't mind a little less wind & rain though...

Hunting & Fishing Climbing for deer (6 XC)

Yes, access from landowners - local hunting get's money intensive and the quality isn't there. I live fairly remote, and everything I do involve travel. 1 hour to the range, 5 hours to a hunt which means everything I do is a "minor expedition". So I just saddle up proper and spend the same...

Hunting & Fishing Climbing for deer (6 XC)

Deer, moose, reindeer, roedeer, ducks, geese, ptarmigan, capercaille, crows, magpies, beaver, fox. Have hunted all of them, but tend to stick to red deer/ roe deer and ptarmigan these days. With age, family and time constraints, it limits itself.

True! Hence my expert tip "Don't fall!" :ROFLMAO: This is home. If you can't navigate mountains or the sea, you're not going to have a life. My shooting range is behind the left peak. It's not really difficult, just walk with your brain attached and think through the consequences of a fall.

Hunting & Fishing Approaching deer in open country

Followthrough ends when the bullet has left the barrel. In this case, I even observed the impact (which is my habit, nothing to do with followthrough). What do you consider to be "followthrough"?

Match report from Norway, new film: stage 19, The Hunter

Will post some films from this match here so you can get a superficial glance at the misery that is Midnight Sun Rifle Challenge. The focus of these films are mostly to show beginners/interested parties what/how we shoot and hopefully give a few...

Hunting & Fishing Hunting Ethics... How many shots does it take you?

Hundreds and hundreds. It's anything from 2 to 20 per day. I strive to make the kill as quick and painless as possible, but the ratio isn't 1:1. The overwhelming majority is 1 shot kills. I have missed game. I have made poor shots that needed a followup. I have made poor shots that killed the...

Hunting & Fishing Carbon fiber stock choices

I didn't know what profile/fit details to click on their website for my Remington Light Varmint, so a sales representative took my order by email. I only specified "lightest" for fill, so I assume that will be the carbon version.

I really liked shooting the Gunwerks. I now have a Clymr on order. Irish PSE also makes nice stocks.

Hunting & Fishing How vikings hunt

Shoot one and eat it if you can, it's a very nice meat. Those temperatures are savage, and there are so many materials and tools that just change properties when it get's that cold. It's not that it's overly difficult to thrive, but paying attention to very basic routines (like brushing the...

Hunting & Fishing How vikings hunt

Absolutely! Skiing with a cocked but safe rifle is like bringing Damocles Sword along by trusting a mechanical safety. The rifle jiggles in the scabbard all day long and falling on skis can be a high energy impact. I don't want the firing pin falling on the primer whilst the barrel is pointing...

Yes true. At somewhere around -10 it changes properties and you get that special sound. At -30 it's different yet again.

Sorry, my wife would kill me if I started filming in the kitchen.

Hunting & Fishing How vikings hunt

Yes, I'm alone. For safety, we travel into this region as a group and meet up at designated points/ times, but we each go to each our mountain/ valley for the hunt itself. So yes, it makes for cold fingers and a lot of extra skiing. I should have enough material for another film. After...

Hunting & Fishing How vikings hunt

Cheesy title, but something different for most of you I suppose. This is me hunting at home, it's a fantastic experience if you keep your brain attached. It's a fairly potent environment, so some small how-to pointers is included. Skiing for ptramigan with a 221 Fireball (legal max for this...
