Gunsmithing Ejection/Extraction Problem Rem 700, PTG bolt

Re: Ejection/Extraction Problem Rem 700, PTG bolt try taking the top corner off of the extractor claw with a grinder or file. I have done this on some of the wsm actions with an m-16 extractor. This lets the case pull more out to the side instead of trying to eject at 1 o'clock. Maybe this...

Gunsmithing Polishing cocking ramp on a 700

Re: Polishing cocking ramp on a 700 The roughness that you are feeling could also be coming from the cocking piece dragging through the shroud or grit in this area. You might also try blowing some oil down around the cocking piece where it travels through the bolt shroud. I had a new custom...

    Gunsmithing Bedding under barrel

Re: Bedding under barrel I used to not tape the front of my lugs too when bedding. I felt the same as you, that it helps hold the lug rearward making full contact all the time. I have changed in the last year to taping in front. It just makes removing the barreled action easier. Not so...

Gunsmithing Bead Blast new barrel and brake(that needs timing)

Re: Bead Blast new barrel and brake(that needs timing) I would order the barrel from Krieger and let your gunsmith do all the work and install the brake too. The brake will be easier installed after the chamber is cut and the high side of the barrel is clocked up to the action if your smith...

    ar-500 target, is this normal

Re: ar-500 target, is this normal I have over 40 ar 500 targets on t-post with square tubing welded to the back of them. They get shot with 6.5x47's , 6.5x284's, and 308's all the time and have never shot through one or even put a dent in one.

Gunsmithing Surgeon 591 and RSR footprint? Same?

Re: Surgeon 591 and RSR footprint? Same? A stock inletted for a RSR or 591 will work on either. You will have to rebed if the stock is bedded for an RSR and you use a 591 or vice versa. The recoil lug area is different.

Big Horn Action ((Pictures)) Gun is done!! Kind of

Re: Big Horn Action ((Pictures)) The HS will probably work. It was designed for AI type mags. The action has no feed rails so you will have to use some type of DBM. Im sure it would be an easy mod for any type of magazine.

Big Horn Action ((Pictures)) Gun is done!! Kind of

Re: Big Horn Action ((Pictures)) The action screw spacing is the same. I can't remember exactly without measuring but i think the barrel threads are about .200-.300 longer (thus the recoil lug is moved forward). The bolt handle is moved rearward about .100. The rear tang is also thicker...

Big Horn Action ((Pictures)) Gun is done!! Kind of

Re: Big Horn Action ((Pictures)) That bolt handle is tig welded on there all the way around. It ain't coming off. It is the best job of welding i have ever seen. Almost looks as if it were a one piece bolt. Sure it would be nice if it were one piece, but it is very good as it is.

Big Horn Action ((Pictures)) Gun is done!! Kind of

Re: Big Horn Action ((Pictures)) Yes, It is smoother with the coating. I have been running one for the last 7 months. I love this thing. It is very smooth. I just got my bolt back from AJ. He had the NP3 coating put on it. It is smoother than it used to be for sure. AJ is a great guy...

Kestrel seems to run high temps

Re: Kestrel seems to run high temps Yes, it can act this way if the sensor has direct light on it with no wind movement across it. Try waving it in the air for a little bit to get some air movement across the sensor and see if the temps don't come down. I have noticed that if i lay my...

    Which annealing machine

Re: Which annealing machine I have owned the ken light and now i own the Bench Source. I like the Bench Source the best because of it's ease of use. I think that the Ken light is a little faster because it uses a continuous motion. The Bench Source really allows you to have a consistent...

Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Re: Some load development The excessive flow is coming from the firing pin clearance. Maybe Fredo can chime in and explain why they are running so much clearance on the pins. I suspect is because of the floating pin design and to insure that you don't get any slam fires from a sticky pin...

Gunsmithing rem 700 action truing method??

Re: rem 700 action truing method?? Single point is the best for me. Done it both ways and i get better results taking the extra time to single point cut everything. Most of the time i can hold .001 to .003 (t.i.r.) on a tight fitting mandrel in the bolt raceway of an action screwed onto the...
